no no no no nooooooooo sanding!!!!

Wash teh car as best as you can. Dry it off and get very bit of water out of all the little cracks and any area water couple get to. Tape off all the windows and tail lights as best as you can. I spray a light base coat then start going with some heavy coats and then back to light coats. I spray about 10 coats on each panel, and my results turned out great.

You let it dry in between coats?

as i posted earlier after talking to the company. DO NOT USE PRIMER UNLESS ITS THEIR PRIMER. the primers from all the other companies as they cure can cause the plasti dip to separate from them Even using anything like a paint prep is not recommended. just break the clear with like 200 grit but do not go any finer grit. This is straight from the companies customer service tech line.

just use soap and water to prep the surface. DO NOT use anything like a wax and grease remover prior to using the plasti dip The plastidip doesn't like the cleaner.

I'm waiting on demonx's results. I too wanted to do the two tone, red and black, scheme. It seems like it is working out really nice for you so far.

I did my bumper red and I have to say I'm very very happy bit it takes a long time to do it....I also did my Hood black..soon the top will be black and the rest of the car red, and yes my bumper is stiched together i cant find one at a junk yard and i dont want to pay 300 new for one, i like the stiched, also i replaced those zip ties i painted over for some new ones to give it the red and black look i love

I love the way the stitched bumper looks, it looks mean, battle wounds. I need to do thid with mine. Did you just drill the wholes then ziptie it or how did you do it?

Are you sure 200 grit? did you mean 2000 grit? 200 is a fairly coarse grit. I could see no finer than 400 or 600, but 200 doesn't sound right.

Seeing how transparent the white is... looks like I may keep the car red. I like how it's turning out so far...

200 grit is correct. you want the surface course to promote adhesion 400 and 600 is priming for paint smooth and the plastidip will have a harder time sticking.

this is all as per the company tech support person.

At 400 and 600 grit smoothness you start to run into issues of dust and more importantly sanded material clogging the pores on the paint and preventing it from reaching the optimal adhesion

I originally did mine in 400 and got decent results and after talking to them did the next few parts in 200 and got a much better finish. the plastidip will fill all the scratches so its not like paint where they will show.

Yeah i just drilled holes and put zipties in and OK here's half my car done...I ran out of red so I gotta order more...but I'm going to do the top black tmw

Not fair! I've got a red 1st gen that I want to turn from RED to white... looks good thought keep the pictures up! Slowly being convinced to spray the red over the existing...

Hey D3monx, thats looks effin great! Did you sand before painting it? About how many coats you used in one panel?

Yeah I wetsanded it with a 200 and 150 grit..then cleaned the crap out of it get all the residue left behind then sprayed...I put a lot of coats on....I used 4 cans for the bumper...3 cans for both fenders....2.5 cans for each door...and one can for the side skirts...I ran out of red so I gotta order more and I have black for the top but I might just wait a couple days becuz It takes awhile..I let each coat dry so that's why it took so long

Dude, that looks great. I kinda want to do my car black. But do they have any gloss paint. I like the flat black but just not on my car.

This is plasti-dip, not paint.

After the 4th page I gave up...LOL

But anyways, I posted a thread about getting the weather stripping around the windshield and rear window painted or fixed since years of waxing and washing they tend to fade and crack and a member referred me to this thread.
Anyways, would this stuff be something to use for this kind of job?

I just got a few cans at Lowe's. Going to do a few parts on my 1GB talon soon since the paint on it is BAD, I'll be sure to take before and after pictures.

if you mean fill the body gaps no it will not. it sprays out like paint but dries to a rubberized finish.

just finished reading absolutely EVER freaking post LOL. Im definitely convinced and I'll be doing my 90 tsi black! with that clear coat from dupli color to give it that satin look. (if you read all the posts youll know what im talking about) ***(now i understand why some people get annoyed with the same question over and over) TAKE TIME AND READ!!!! The red looks sexy d3monx I cant wait till your finished! I've pretty much checked all the stores around here where im at and ill definitely be buying some cans soon to get it ready. (Cant do anything yet because I live in an apartment) Ill post pics as soon as I get a chance to start.

Hey sandman I know you posted this back in March but do you have any pics of those wheels on your car? I have the same wheels and I was thinking about doing the same thing. Thanks :thumb:

ok so what is the point in the plastidip exactly and can you use it on almost anything?

I sprayed my bottom door jam covers with this stuff, came out great but it's already peeling. I probably shouldn't blame it on the Plasti Dip though because I only sprayed on one coat, not to mention these pieces obviously get stepped on a lot.

You step on your door jams?
