It adds up if he's counting labor costs, tuning costs, and dyno fees. Shop rates of $80+/hr add up real quick.

Yeah, I do all my own work and my car totals over 30k but I have a lot more work done to mine. I haven't seen this guy in the area either so I dunno.

This made me LOL so hard.

Name one visual upgrade that is relevent to the cars performance.

Apparently an ebay "fully functional" vented hood that doesnt have rain gaurds...and NOS stickers...I hear those are good for 50hp a window :thumb:

I'd say the car in question is 100% legit too, I've spent $6K on parts on mine, not including labor cost to do some of the work. Granted I live in Canada and shipping is a little bit more, but since I started doing my own work things got a little cheaper, bloody knuckles, headaches, and swearing are on a heavy rise but in the end its all worth it. So ya if i can have 6K into mine and it aint shit then I would say this more than entirely possible.
And to the guy who said theres cheap dsmers who use megan products...whats wrong with megan? I have a full 3" turbo back megan exhaust that gets more compliments on its deep agressive tone than my buddy who has HKS turboback on his talon...even gets compliments from old school V8ers

So I read pitt97's mod list...man I really hope this isn't real.

Bolt-on Modifications:
SBR 50 trim, VR Speed FMIC blow thru, HKS BOV, EVO 3 Headers, Evo 3 O2 Housing. 3" Vibrant Exhaust. RRE downpipe. 3" High Flow Cat. Walbro 190 pump, SBR BC

Engine Management:
EvoScan, SAFC, MAFT, AEM Wideband

Engine Internals:
SBR Stage 2 2.3 Stroker. Comp Cams. Metal Head Gasket

Drivetrain Modifications:
Stock, might get translab shift kit

Suspension Modifications:
Tokico Shocks Springs kit. Hawk HPS Pads. 18" MR7 rims(summer). 17" Rims snow tires(winter)

What are you doing wrong?

Oh...I know, you spent all your money on a built 2.3L block and no fuel mods or tuning solutions. Making 16G power off a 50 trim...awesome job.

HAHA! $55k into what? from the pics i don't see $10K, with $55k the whole interior would be done, he would also have better wheels&tires, (not saying these are crap), but with $55k into this car, i would see no slower then 9secs and over 600hp at leeeeast..AAAND if he does have $55k then im missing something, but 400whp can be done with less then $10k with smart tuning and right parts...

Considering it's almost guaranteed that he's included the RETAIL COST of the car, as well as the fact that he'll easily have $10,000-$15,000 into his motor and transmission, $55,000 is a reasonable amount. Have you seen what it costs to build a motor like that? Hell, those injectors are $1000 a set from STM.

For what it's worth, I'm in the middle of building a fully forged (less crank) 2.0L, and they're a bit cheaper to build than a 2.3. I'm looking at about $8000-$8500 by the time it's all said and done.

See how easy it is for prices to add up when you're building something?

IMO, for $12,900, it's not a terrible deal.

EDIT: Just for kicks, lets see approximately what I have into my car, and it's not even road worthy yet

Engine: $8500ish when complete
Transmission: $2500ish after shipping
Body and paint: $1500 (did all my own labour)
Car: $3000
Exhaust: $750
Misc parts (fuel pump, suspension, etc.): $1500

Right around the $18,000 mark, and it doesn't even run yet. If I based it on the car's retail price (even though I bought it used), I'd be into it for over $35,000.

Where do you guys shop? Rip-Off-Mart?

Pistons $500.00
Rods $350.00
ACL Bearings $130.00
ARP Main Studs $60.00
Rebuild Gasket Kit from Mitsubishi $225.00
Oil Squirters $100.00
New Oil Pan $250.00
Machine Shop to Put it Together $600.00

Total: $2215.00

Where is this other $6,000.00 coming from? The moment you say you are spending $8,000.00 to build a forged motor, is the moment I know you are lying or so dumb that the shops saw you coming a mile away.

Even if we upgraded that to aluinum rods, magnus pistons and a forged crank we still aren't even close to that kind of money.

I live in Canada, parts were a little more expensive for me (bought before our dollar was strong), as well as 12% tax on everything included in the prices, but here. They're also CLOSE APPROXIMATIONS as I'm 1500km away from my receipts:

Machining costs (bore, line hone mains, dynamic balance everything) - $750
Block - $250
JE Pistons - $650
Garrett T67 Turbo - $550
Manley TurboTuff I-Beams - $700
JE Pistons - $650
ARP L19 Head studs - $250
ARP Main studs - $80
Kiggly Main Girdle - $120
Kiggly HLA Pressure adjuster - $160
FIC 1250cc Injectors - $350
Exhaust manifold - $350
Magnus Cast intake - $750 (havent bought yet)
75mm TB - $200
Fidanza Cam gears - $250
Rebuild parts (gasket, oil pump, w/p, BSEK, timing, etc) - $600
Cometic head gakset - $150
Head (porting, 1mm over valves, kiggly springs and retainers, other machine work) $1250ish
Cams - $300 seems to be the average price to my door

With the exception of the physical block, crank, and head, everything on this motor has been/will be replaced.

So, kindly #### off. Thanks.

P.s. See how many things in that list weren't included in yours? If I add up JUST the parts you listed, I'm sitting at not much more than $2750.

You are including a turbo in the built engine category? LOL What's next, a transmission cause it bolts to the engine? And including the cost of a block LMFAO. In case you weren't aware of it, most of our cars came with a block.

Your list even includes marked up prices. Lord, no wonder you are broke. Buying rods that you don't even need...forget it, carry on with your dumb decisions.

Yeah, a fully running, drop in engine. Just like how my $10,000-$15,000 approximation for the engine in the car that started this topic was. I apologize that I didn't feel like writing out all of my specs and prices originally, I did what was convenient.

Considering it's a 6 bolt block, I had to buy it separate. Considering how smart you must be, I'm amazed you couldn't figure that out.

No, my list includes what my parts cost me, to my door. I'm so sorry that, living in Canada, I have to spend a lot more money on parts usually, even when our dollar is stronger, nevermind when it's worse. And please, seeing as you obviously know everything about me, my car, and my power goals, explain why I don't need stronger rods than the factory 1g ones.

And where did I say I was broke?

My profile also said I was President of the United States for a few months. Try harder tool.

I will post up the dyno sheets after I bring it to DTT for tuning.

so your still unemployed?

It's hard being pitt97, while he spend $400.00 on a hood, the rest of us are spending money on performance.

yup, it's very hard for me to make $120k a year and spend $0 on a hood that friends(which u don't have) gave me for free

Yeah I can see since you never pointed out that it was a 6 bolt until now, that we should all just assume. Just as well, as you are trying to use Canadian market prices to justify a claim on a US car.

Like I said, good luck with your pipe dream, let us know if this thing ever runs or is another 5 year project that ends in a part out we are all too familiar with.

If owning your own business is unemployed, then yes I guess so. Also if you think any of us believe you make $120K, well that's just hilarious in it's own right.
