So i was working on my dsm fixing the fuel gauge/sensor today. Under the backseat there's the access point to the fuel pump etc. I fixed everything and i was tightening the cap, my hand slipped and i sliced my pinky finger/side of my hand down to the bone. lots of blood, good thing none went into the gas tank. So i guess im starting a thread of "the worst" injury stories while working on your car.

should have posted this in the hang out section sorry about that

I was cleaning my fuel injectors in the worst way possible, I won't go into the details, but I caught my entire left arm on fire, it was rather unpleasant.

Yeah................You're gonna have to finish that story.

I put a four wheeler through a barbed wire fence and cut my self all to hell but that was a long time ago but Ive never hurt my self on my dsm ........... on any of the three Ive had....yet LOL

I guess mine would be when I realized that I had left one of my transfer case bolts loose. I had already put the downpipe back on and everything. So I was wiggling all kinds of shit in there til I found something that would work and fit with the downpipe there. And as I was pushing it to tighten it, the wrench or whatever I was using slipped off the bolt and tore my hand up on the flex section of the downpipe. You know the mesh shit. That stuff tore up my hand. No super long cuts, but it felt like I punched a cactus a couple times.

Geezus. How in the hell do you guys work on your vehicles? Blindfolded? Worst I've ever gotten is a straight edge razor into my finger. That was fun.

NO! But we are men, we typically don't think things out and go "Hey, this could end bad, maybe I shouldn't do it." We think to ourselves "I'm going to win, no way this car is gonna kick my ass." Then we go to the hospital, so in a way the car still wins.

*sigh* If you insist. So it goes like this, we were spraying fuel injector cleaner at the back end of the injectors while using a battery with two alligator clips to pulse the injectors open. The last time I pulsed the injector my hand slipped a little and there was a small electrical spark. Of course at this time I had been spraying injector cleaner for on and off for about 15 minutes and my left hand (holding the injector) was completely covered in the stuff, and it had started running down my arm. The spark caught and my whole left arm lit up like a christmas tree.

At this point I feel it's necessary to point out that I am fully aware of how absurd this whole situation is, and how obviously stupid it is, but it makes for a good story these days so...

Couldn't have said it better myself. We are men and it is in our nature to dominate the machine with no regard to personal well being, only victory is important haha

I slipped in my garage and smacked my head on the side view mirror. It split me open and i needed stitches, and to make things worse I broke the mirror off with my head:(

I dislocated my knee one time when my foot got stuck under the front bumper. I was sitting on the curb and had my legs sprawled out aroung the front tire, I turned to my left to grab something and my foot got wedged between the bumper and the ground and my knee popped out of place.

Not sure which is worse. I was opening a box of royal purple with a box cutter and split my palm from wrist to thumb to the bone. Then about 4 months later I was getting under the car and put my hand on a nail. Same hand of course. In the palm, out the back. Also hooked my thumb with safety wire once, but that was at work. That one hurt the most.

Yes, remember these should be DSM related injuries.

If they didn't have to be I would tell you all about the time a horse tried to rip my titties off. LOL

I shouldn't be telling anyone this being that I am a mechanic. I was installing an intake on my friends Grand Am GT and I test drove the car and parked it (so I thought). I pop the hood and get out of the car to show the intake to another friend. I proceed to rev the car from the throttle body and wham the next thing I know I'm on the ground wedged between the Pontiac and a curb with the car being half way up my legs. :ohdamn: Well after the car was backed off me I went to the hospital to get a Catscan since I hit my head on the ground. Well I wound up with a concussion and a cut on my ankle. The scar is still there to this day. Let me say that after this happened I tested leaving the car in drive on level ground and it did roll in gear at idle, so I have no clue what happened. I put that damn car in park before I got out. LOL God how embarrassing

Atleast nothing severe happened, that could have ended very badly

well the one dsm story i have i was working on a drag project (laser turbo) that my brother our friend had acquired (free). well we were pulling the head off so we could replace the hg and rings, our friend and i went to lift the off he slipped in a puddle of oil letting the head go and smashing my hands on the core support skinning my knuckles. now other vehicles i was changing the trans in my brothers wrx from the 6spd to a straight cut 5spd, the trans jack we were using was older and it worked just fine taking out the 6spd but when i went to put the 5spd in the jack gave out smashing my hand and cutting it to the bone and breaking the pinkie bone in my hand. i was gushing blood wrapped it after i cleaned it up drank a beer and kept working.

Maybe you don't amigo, but I got tired of feeding my pos vampire car my blood, so now I watch where and how I place my hands, and what could happen if I break a bolt loose suddenly. I have an ugly scar on the back of my right hand reminding me of why I need to be careful.

Pain hurts for a reason.....

Not car related at all, but I had three sprained wrists over a 4 month span this past winter (1x left, 2x right), incurred while snowboarding, biking and walking...didn't look out for ice in all three instances. Having a badly sprained wrist sucks because you can't do much of anything with that hand for a few weeks or you just make it worse. Damn you, ice...

I wear gloves when i work on cars, so my hands are pretty safe from injury. That said, i know i'm not the only person who has dropped a transfer case on their face.:ohdamn:

I never hurt myself when removing/rebuilding/or reinstalling the head on my RS daily, nor did i when removing/replacing the front struts from the spyder, and not even when I reinstalled the speed sensor into the spyder's transmission while the engine was still hot.

But when i was on a creeper changing my oil under the RS, my brilliant father decided to push the creeper farther under the car with his foot so he didn't have to step over me, my face went right under the draining oil. I jumped just a bit and cracked my forehead on the oil pan. FAIL.

ok, so i was stopped at a red light in my talon and a dumbass teenager texting rearended me at 35...... needless to say... i ended up with severe back injuries including a fractured l5 vertebrae........ the car is ok ... all the more reason to hate honDUH's and their owners.
