Hey all! First I am sure this has been done but I am doing it again. Also for the haters out there, please please don't waste forum space by posting things like "your car will blow up" etc. With that said I am going to build a car using ONLY eBay parts.

I have a 91 eclipse 2.0l non turbo automatic: I am going to use as much ebay stuff as possible to test and see if it really is crap or not. I am swapping the car to turbo. I currently have purchased from ebay a complete gasket rebuild kit, timing belt, water pump, AFPR, 50 trim, t3/t4 tubular manifold, 35mm external wastegate. I am going to purchase a ebay 255lph fuel pump and a FMIC. The things I can make I will, like IC piping and exhaust etc.. The things that can not come from ebay I will have to purchase elsewhere, like injectors etc... I will take photos of the items and car and progress and post up as it goes along. I will be rebuilding the motor soon and putting in stock 1g turbo pistons and at the time converting it to a turbo. If anyone would like to see a ebay "item" installed and checked out just let me know and I'll see what I can do. Also MODS if this isn't in the correct section please move it. Thanks all and I'll get up some photos as soon as I can.:thumb:

good luck with the build bro try doing research on a company called CXracing their turbo stuff looks legit but then again they can photoshop it, supposibly all their stuff is made here in the U.S; I also heard godspeed makes good ebay turbos:D

These days there is a lot of good "stuff" on ebay. When it comes down to it you have to know where you can cut corners and the difference between a knock off and something that has been revers engineered (copied)
For example intercooler piping, its all the same aluminum pipe is aluminum pipe.

Bov's usually leak i've seen a my far share of them.

ebay turbo's are hit or miss my buddy had 2 of the typical t3/t4 ebay what evers. One lasted like 20,000 the other was shot after like 1000 the oil seals are usually shit.

I always wanted to try a ball-bearing one but would probably never.

As far as exhaust manifolds why not, I had a DNP the damn thing cracked after 5000 miles. Of course for the $500 price tag they replaced it under warranty it was a good thing my car was off the road tho it took almost a month. So i could literaly by 5 ebay ones before i could get a dnp.

Down pipes and exhausts are all the same why anyone would spend 700 on a brand name one idk. lets be honest the best exhaust for a turbo car is no exhaust.

MBC all the same just don't buy the bleeder ones.

Clutches are fine as long as you don't exceed there ratings. keep in mind there are "stage" 4 clutches that are only rated for 300 ft*lbs

By far the best buy i every had. I bought a look a like areomotive AFPR (60 bucks with some an fittings). got it took it apart and spec'd it against a real one. Everything is the same and i mean every tolerance i could spec with a caliper was with in .01 of the real thing. So if it ever goes to hell i'll just buy the aeromotive rebuild kit. This is a good example of something that has been revers engineered well.

gaskets. I used a ebay kit when i built my motor. the only leak i had was from the oil pan and that's only because i didn't get it tight enough the first time.

I see someone mentioned OBX. There are up and coming and the quality is getting better, but the cost has gone way up so idk if that's worth it.

there is more I can't remember

it's all about knowing where you can skimp and where you need the brand name stuff. I would never buy ebay china cams pistons rods or anything that requires precision. Some times you get lucky sometimes you don't.

Personally I prefer used stuff off the forums. You can get hella good deals! also there are good companies like RCI that offer cheaper components that work great.

good luck on your build

Not DSM but the ebay stuff isnt all that bad. Hot rod mag did a build on a 69 Camaro I believe they did a ebay twin turbo kit for it and it did a respectable 800whp and lasted a lot longer than they anticipated. I haven't heard else about it. I am really kinda interested in seeing the exact miles, what abuse, how many track days x product has gone through. I am not one to say hey don't buy that its crap cause I am the guy that plays it cheap.

I had a Tsudo N1 exhaust on my civic before. It was stainless steel, and fitment was better than my buddies megan racing exhaust. Lasted longer than the aluminized mild steel apexi n1 ($600 for what reminded me of ebay quality)

please sir by all means continue on with your endeavors and lets get some better facts on the ebay products.

Don't listen to much of the negativity its all she said he said bs, i like your approach i did it before just not as hardcore.

One thing i do not agree on is the ebay fuel pump you should just spend 50 dollars on a used walboro and call it a day instead of the ebay one possibly failing or not supplying the right amount of fuel.

I had good luck with the ebay 16g even on 25psi.

Ebay mani/ebay 16g ebay 02dump/regrinds was my major mods.

Hey man and thanks for the support.Congrats too, on those times on the eBay 16g. I do understand what you are saying about the walbro but then it wouldn't be a complete eBay build. I want to see and check out how the eBay pump works. Its boasting exact walbro stats... we'll see though.

I actually ordered my FMIC and my eBay 255 lph fuel pump.:thumb:

936 DSMboy, staztrx250 and blkonblkawd, thanks for the support. I really appreciate it. I will someday get a blog started with the photos and such but I have no net where I live and only have my phone to do the legwork. Thanks again all, Keith.

Could you link to the aeromotive knock off afpr?
I'm about 2 buy one for 160 and would like a cheaper one but its the cheapest I can find

I'll play, do yourself a favor stick with at least fel-pro gaskets or OEM. The ebay ones that I have gotten were all cut out of the same construction paper my nephew colors on, it also doesnt hold up to oil, coolant or heck even boost as I ve proven before.

I went down the road of the ebay timing belt about 6yrs ago, never again 16 bent valves. (teeth fell off) Ive been in dsm's for almost 10 years now and I went through the cheap stages to, trust me YOU PAY FOR QUALITY. You'll soon figure out on your own whats good and whats bad.

I put a $180 t3/t4 egay turbo exh. manifold, cat back exhaust, test pipe, glow shift gauges, fmic coupler tbolts on my eclipse rs 420a about 15,000 miles later and now a buddy owns it, its still kickin, boostin @ 7 lbs. I don't know how but this thing is still going. I think if your taking it conservitive with ebay stuff, it will hold up. But if you are gonna do anything over minor performance it is not made to last. Gl anyway it was fun ebayin the shit outta that car, that's what got me into dsm tunin so it was cool i guess.

Excited to see the end results, Ive seen good success with some of these builds. My friend Matt had a $2 honda built with all Ebay parts and it last 3 years of constant daily abuse. It made it from 100,000 to 180,000 before a rod bolt let loose. Pretty sure he sold all of the turbo parts to another kid around were we leave and its still kickin. Its truly on how you install and maintain things. Like pre oiling the turbo, ive seen a few people make mistakes like that, which end in failing turbos. Also running the correct oil psi to the turbo to not blow them. Truly the success of these builds is to not push it to the ragged edge, to know what your build is capable of.

Goodluck!

I had a friend witht hat same ebay 16g and it was keeping up with my MHI evo III, for a day, because he drives like a donkey, it blew the same night. But I bet if he would have taken the time to respect that turbo before pushing it, it would have been a pretty good turbo. I'm now bashing, simply saying good luck and I cant wait to see what numbers come out of this JDM LOL JK. I might have missed this before but is this gouing on the summit or the 2g in your avatar?

Thanks all and yeah the eBay timing belt and gasket set may be a HORRIBLE idea.....but then if I don't do it I'll never know and neither will the rest if the dsm community. Plus I hav to do a full eBay build if I want to be accurate for you guys. I can't cheat. It may blow up on start up. If so I'll report it here change it with quality stuff and report the rest of my findings on the other eBay stuff.

Oh and this is for my 91 2.0l n/t automatic that I'll be swapping to turbo at the time of the rebuild.

To the OP, do your thing man. Don't sweat what all the people think. It's your project, your decision, your money. I think you already know that most of these parts aren't made to last, but its cool and I appreciate you doing hands on research so others can benefit. I myself wanted to do this very thing. After my current build is complete, I wanted to build and entire eBay car to go tens. Possible? I think so. How long will it last, probably not long, but this is expected. It's not the point at hand. I would like to know a little more about the parts you are installing. Are you planning on putting ebay rods, pistons, cams, intake manifold, bearings, oil pump, axles, clutch, shifter, radiator, valves, valve springs, cam gears, pullies, ect...... All of these parts can be found on eBay. I'm not talking about private party auctions selling used name brand stuff, but the actual cheap no name stuff. You know the cheap parts when there photo's of the parts look like some cartoon with a white background. Also you'll probably hear a car fly by when you enter the sellers home page. You know your getting quality then.:sneaky:

Anyway..keep us posted. I'm very interested in this. I feel if you by the correct items, your motor will last a long time. Your turbo may not in my opinion, but if it goes and your motor is strong, just try another one. Another thought I had when thinking about this was when its all said and done, however it happens being it my choice or faulty products, I wouldn't be able to sell these parts off. I would pretty much have to throw it all in the trash. So I know your dedicated. Keep up with updates and don't forget the pictures.

Again, ebay stuff can last, its all about how you drive and treat your stuff. My friend Matt had a ebay turbo for almost 80,000 miles and it had shaft play at the end of its life, but what turbo at 80k doesnt have shaft play? Pre oil the turbo and check that your running the correct amount of oil pressure to them. I am pretty sure they dont like a ton of oil pressure, so that means dont run 60psi of oil pressure to them, but make sure its enough, im thinking like 30psi is plenty for a ebay turbo.

Yeah I was kinda curious about that. Does anyone know for sure about the correct oil pressure? I'm going to be feeding it from the oil filter housing. The ss line I have does NOT have a restricter in it that I know of. Thanks and as soon as I get my laptop back up I'll get some photos and such done. I'm in the process of changing my interior dash lights to the blue led ones.

I would search more, but im pretty sure that will be WAY to much oil pressure for a ebay turbo.

I'm actually using all the stock internals because they are in good shape. I was looking at eBay 2g pistons but my 1g turbo ones are fine so I'm going to use those. I do want to get some cams an cam gears but I figured I'd do that after some abuse to it like I build it so I can check out and change the timing belt once the cams and gears go in. However, once this build reaches high 300's in hp figures then I will change out my rods and pistons and probably get 1mm oversize valves, springs retainers etc. all eBay of course. The car is an auto so no clutch or anything special. I'll run it stock until something breaks. It's getting rebuilt soon as it's already lost OD and it slips sometimes. Blue wire mod and better eBay tranny cooler is about all I'll do. Unless someoe knows of eBay end clutches I missed or something. Thanks again everyone for te support, Keith.

For what it's worth, the first turbo I ever put on my car was an ebay 50trim. This was one bought about 4 years ago and ran at 23psi daily until the car was put in storage this winter. Fed it with a -3an line, no restrictor from the ofh and it stayed on the car, running good for about 16000 miles. Ended up having a decent amount of shaft play so I've upgraded now but, it was still working good and hadn't been smoking at all. Good luck though, it really is hit or miss.

Update: FMIC & 255 lph fuel pump finally came in. The pump has me kinda worried as it's the size of my big toe, LOL, BUT I said I'd do it all eBay and I am. The stock motor finally blew so I'm working on getting the head to the shop and rebuilding the tranny and motor. Once that's all done and it's running I'll post again.

Just deleted 17 crap posts from this thread. If you guys don't have anything nice to say, don't say it.

If the O.P. wants to waste his money on parts that may fail in a short period of time, that's this prerogative. In the end, if everything goes right with the build, his car has potential to be faster than the cars of most of those who were bashing his goal....and will do so at a fraction of the price.

Hows the quality of the fmic? And in the pics I have seen the 255 pumps look kinda small from ebay. Interested on how this all plays out

This is very interesting to me because I'm very skeptical about most eBay parts, I've heard horrible horror stories about eBay parts failing and not even ever functioning property. All I can say is I wish I had the money and donor car to try this myself cause so eBay parts are kinda cool:hmm:, keep it up and let us know what kind of power you make and how long it all lasts.

I had a 2.2 cav that i bought a full ebay turbo kit and ran mint. It ran 11.49 at lebanon. I also bought one for a civic and it blew up on me. Sometimes you luck out sometimes you dont. Good luck on making the non turbo turbo LOL. I would be more worried about breaking that shitty engine vs blowing it up with ebay stuff.

Thanks jusmx141, I knew I'd get a lot of grief in this thread.
The quality of the FMIC looks great, we'll see how it holds up. The pump is seriously tiny. I'm kinda scared to use it LOL. I'll get pics of everything up, including pump side by sides, once I get settled. Selling my house and moving so net is off. Thanks all. Stay tuned!
