Well i bought a non-running gs that supposedly had a bad ecu. Finished the megasquirt install and have gotten the car to run but very crappy. I was reading a post about when timing a 420a one cam dowel pin is at 12 o'clock and one is at 6 o'clock. I went and looked and on my aem adjustable cam gears with 1 at tdc, the marks dont line up they both face towards 9 o'clock!!!! Im assuming this means one of my cams is 180 degrees out of time? what are the chances i have bent a valve?

It probably isnt as bad as you think... 180 degrees off the 4 valves for each cyl might be opening at the same time... pop the vlave cover off and check thats the quickest way to just check. hopfully you dont have any bent valves..

how was the MS install? will it still pass inspection with that in?

We don't have inspection in SD. If you want any help give me a call, I'm just sitting at home all day.

sure, i was thinkin bout callin you to do a compression test again. after the last time i had it running it wont start. I have good spark still and good fuel pressure. Im really hoping its not a valve. Gona pull the valve cover and check the cam here in a bit

Alright, just let me know if you want help. Jesse still has my compression tester but I may be able to get ahold of somebodys.

Well i pulled off the valve cover and aligned the arrows on the crank pulley. The exhaust cam is 180 degrees off and the intake cam is 90 degrees off!!!!!! How did it even run like this before???? Do you think i have bent valves? Should i just do a compression test to check once i have it timed correctly?

Well, you'll have to put everything back together correctly to even compression test it. So, as long as you are doing that you may as well just go ahead and try to start the thing.

Oh, and I'd imagine your vavles are screwed. But only ways to tell are to pull the head or try and start it or do a compression test.

Well i have the crank pulley arrow lined up and cyl 1 at TDC. I read one post saying the intake cam dowel pin should be down while the exhaust cam dowel pin should be up. but also read the holes in the cams should be facing up. Which is it? Right now at TDC the intake cam has the hole up but the hole on the exhaust cam is at 3 o'clock but the dowel pin is up. Ive been searching all over for a cam install or timing guide but have had no luck

Anyone??? somebody must have a manual that knows if i am thinking correctly and the holes in the cams point up with 1 at TDC???? I called crower and had to leave a message but they havent returned my call yet. I would really like to get the car done this week as i leave for my internship soon and would like to drive it home

yes to two holes on the cams must line up fot the exhaust and intake to be on base timing:hellyeah:
