How goes it everyone, I have a 92 vr4 galant and I want to convert it to 5 lug. And would like to also upgrade to a stronger trans I heard the 2g drivetrain is stronger. Anyone have some idears for me?

For the 5 lug swap, fronts, whole knuckles are interchangeable and the rear, youll need the hubs and new wheel bearings, or you could just drop the whole rear subframe and drop in a 1g dsm rear subframe. its direct bolt on.

For the transmission, check if you have a 22 spline or 23 spline. if its 23, then thats good, you dont have to change it.

Does the subframe from other 1g's have an advantage over the galants?
And I appreciate the help man. Someone had told me it was a pita just to convert it into 5 lug.
Is it also true that these trans have 5th/reverse issues? It grinds into 5th and will almost never go into reverse unless I just hold it there in which case it just scratches the hell out of the gears but will back up for me

If you replace your whole rear subframe and rearend, you can eliminate the AWS. Its what I did.

But there is no advantage when using the DSM subframe.

On your grinding issue. Try this:
Go into 2nd gear first, then reverse.

I dont think theres a differenbe between GVR4 and DSM trannys, other than the GVR4's 1st gear is taller than DSM trannys.

These cars seem to have a mind of there own.
Thanks for that info aswell, I'll check it out when I get home.
is the aws system a no no for competitive driving?

And these are just a few starting questions from my noob ass. This is my first import car and I really don't want to tear into this unique little thing without knowing what I'm doing

AWS can be benefical, IF its in perfect working order.

Alot of people eliminate them because several reasons. Mine scared the shit outta me in sharp curves at moderate speeds. It was jittery!

I think it steers like a boat with AWS LOL.
