megaquirt issues no communication with laptop help

i was wondering if someone could guide me i recently installed a megasquirt in my 1996 eclipse rs 420A fully built turbo i for some reason cant get the ecu to communicate with my laptop i downloaded the correct software i am using the symtec labratories complete 420A megasquirt ecu it comes with the usb to serial adapter, ecu , harness and alternator voltage regulator it is the megasquirt ms2/extra version 2.1.0 on a v3 board i open megatune connect the serial to usb with my laptop and it wont communicate something to do with the comm port ive went to file went offline then go into the communications then settings again and tried to test every single comm port all 99 of them and no luck what could be wrong im about to burn my car if i cant get it to work with this ecu LOL the car runs when i crank it over but i know its bad since im not getting to monitor things to tune it some one help i pmed bulletdsm maybe he will reply but if anyone can help it would be apreciated thanks :hellyeah:
 
if the ecu wasent wired correctly i dont think the car wouldnt start and it does start ive re istalled the megatune and the usb cd that came with my setup im running windows 7 idk im just really confused many have the comm port issues but no one sais whether if they fixed the issue or not the posts stay blank wanna fly to colorado to get it going LOL

There were more suggestions in the link than just checking the ECU for power...

Something else I'd address is your choice of tuning software. MegaTune is very out of date; you ought to be using TunerStudio MS instead. I wouldn't be surprised if it, in conjunction with Windows 7, was giving you these connection problems.
 
ok i installed it and went outside plugged it in and wala it read when the car is on should it read the gauges and log with the key forward or do i have to have the car on to communicate at all times
 
You should see readings on the gauges when the engine is off, as long as the ECU is powered. Obviously, some gauges (like RPM, injector pulsewidth, etc.) won't move while the engine is off. I suppose you could datalog while the engine is off too, but I don't know why you would want to.

It's a little hard to decipher what you're trying to say. We have a higher standard for grammar and spelling in advanced technical forums like this one. Please be more conscientious of what you're typing and be sure to at least use punctuation.
