Hey guys i have a 99 gsx, stock except for a k&n air intake. I wanna turn up the boost like the build order said but i'm having a tough time finding a good bov for the right price. I want a good one but do not really care about the name on it. also a good manual boost controller. any suggestions?

Whats your budget? "The right price" is not specific at all.

sorry by the right price i mean cheaper. i can spend 200 bucks and get one if i have to to but i'd rather keep it between 100and 150

Get a 1g to start off with its cheap and does great, again budget comes into play, turning up boost, do you have tuning devices?

1g BOV+Dejon Upper intercooler piping is a good setup for you man

+1 on 1g BOV and Dejon UICP. As for a boost controller I've heard good things about the Hallman Pro. I don't have one yet and I don't know why but you can find them pretty cheap on ebay.

halman boost controller and i wouldn't go with the 1g bov... you can get a greddy rs for 100 which looks better and works better...reason why i wouldn't go with the 1g is because if down the road you want to go bigger which we all always want more, you wont have to go back again and look for another one.. buy it once thats how i look at it

why not go with a 1g bov? its been proven over and over to handle alot of boost and best bang for the buck. a greddy bov might look better but in no way can last or handle more boost than a 1g bov. greddy bov:notgood: have shitty diagrams

Ok so you changed your reply after I called you out.. You must be behind the times because the Greddy Type RS is knows for FAILINGGGG. The diaphragm is crap man. And if you crush a 1g BOV its been proven up to 30ish psi.. :nono:

Ill take a 1g BOV painted metallic and purple of a Type RS 100 of 100 times

you can't just "turn up the boost" without supporting mods.

throwedgsx you can't just "turn up the boost" without supporting mods.

AGREED.

Honestly, i agree 1g bov will be perfect.... uhm as for the boost controller? I use an AMS performance boost controller. If you end up buying a boost controller please please please make sure you have what you need to support the boost....
upper i/c piping is another good idea. Make sure you do get a boost gauge, my stock boost gauge tended to lie me, showing me spooling up to 14 psi... with no mods yea right.....
Honestly do all the maintenance before you do anything.
When i have money from a recent pay check which is usually like 250 every two weeks. i try so hard not to spend it on any mods because i know i still have a few maintenance things to do... dont lie to yourself, and skip something unless you know its good. Because it may end up costing you buttloads of money to fix.
Hope this helped you!

Ok so i thought all i had to get to turn up the boost on my car was a bov, controller and a gauge, thats what the guide said.... at least to just turn it up to 16 psi

+1 Josh..The 1g is the cheapest 30 psi capable bov you can buy..

:
Correct. Especially because he has a 2g which doesnt even have numbers on the boost guage like a 1g does. So you never know exactly what amount of boost your running.

Sure. Just go with that.

Well Ill tell you this before a mod gets a hold of you first. Look up for things be for you "turn up the boost". You need yes a BOV, you need a fuel pump, injectors, AFPR, Boost gauge, boost controller, either DSM link or a SAFC, and a wide band. and some one to tune it the right way. You can just go ahead and drill out the restrictor on the stock boost controller it'll give you like 1 or 2psi I believe, you really dont want to go over stock pressure because the injectors are working to hard past 80% so that's why you need the other supporting mods

As mentioned before do a 1g bov. You can get one in good working order for $20-$50 then use the rest of your money for a hard upper/lower (if funds are available) intercooler pipe/s with a good set of couplers and t bolt clamps to help your air flow. For the boost controller, do a Hallman ES MBC, its only $50+ and it is tried and proven. The last thing you will definitely need is a good boost gauge. On a 2g with these items you will be fine to run 14-15 psi max without stressing your motor nor needing to upgrade your fuel system. Goodluck

By the way, the Greddy RS BOV is garbage, do not get it. Even if you adjust it properly it will flutter so beware.

well is that the correct way to do it? i cant tell if ## being sarcastic or not LOL.

Yes. Buy a 1g BOV for $20-$25, disconnect your BCS and install your boost gauge. You'll be good.

If you are trying to just "up your boost" then you can do that. If you are trying to "up your boost" intelligently then there are numerous things that you need other than the BOV and Boost controller. The most you can do without mods is around 14lbs, someone correct me if I'm wrong. I can't remember for sure.

And as for what KINGGSX just said, you can do that and still run stock pressure. To up it you will need to throw in the Boost Controller. But don't go crazy with it.
