i have a 97 gst and im looking to upgrade cams.Im not looking for to much power ..my car its pretty much stock..my setup right now is a full hks exhaust(3inch),maft translator, hks bov,and im running the stock t25 turbo at 15psi(well thats what my boost gauge says..LOL)...i plan on keeping the car stock as is ..i jest want alittle more power..so what cams drop right in for that? also what are my numbers at the track looking like?

I'd concentrate on other things...

Like your spelling and bench racing questions. ;)

Just messin' around. (not really but hey)

On a serious note, It really depends if you're looking to go big in the future then save yourself the hassle and get 272's, what kind of turbo you plan on running??

But really I'd go a different route, I'd probably start to buy some tuning device, boost gauge, widebands, logging stuff, bigger injectors and fuel pump and play with that till you max up your current set up, it'll be a good opportunity to learn!

i plan on staying pretty stock..keep my t25,and i have a boost gauge..only tuning i have right now is gm maft

264s. They work perfectly with the 16g as well so if you do go bigger your good. 272s will not help your cause at all with the t25. They are a higher rpm cam and your t-25 craps out at like 4500.

If you plan on staying almost stock then yeah, 264's it is.

4500?? really? cause i was thinking bc 272s...do the 264s drop right in like the 272s?

Same, the 272's are actually larger duration... You don't need different vavle train with any of them, only with 280's and up.

Do not add cams to a car with a small turbo. There are plenty of other things that need addressed first.

Why, you ask? Performance cams tend to move the torque curve toward the higher RPM range....exactly where a small turbo does not perform at it's peak. What will happen is the engine will now gobble up the small amount of airflow the turbo is making at a rate that the turbo itself cannot keep up with, and the boost level will trail off to nothing as you get close to redline.

That in mind, you may actually lose performance with aftermarket cams on an otherwise stock car.

....but they just sound so damn cool. LOL

I agree with Justin. Cams are the last thing to worry about in your car. Go out and get a 16g and install kit with that money. Even at 11-12 psi on a EVOIII you will make more power then the t25 with cams.

Im surprised nobody has suggested a 264/272 combo. Its a combo thats been proven over the years to perform very well on pretty much any conservative setup.

Define "small."

^this or 264's but you would want to at least upgrade the turbo to one that breathes more to compliment the cams.
But don't forget to do all the supporting mods such as Exhaust, bigger injectors, fuel pump, FPR, Turbo manifold, etc etc

I don't see why you want cams on a stockish car though. You need to have supporting mods to have any beneficial gains from them.

If your not planning to upgrade anything else in the near future, than there is no point in doing cams. They're going to move your torque curve farther up where your little t-25 isn't efficient. Save your money, or put it else where, where it counts. Such as: DSMLink, walbro 255lph, afpr, 16g, or even basic maintnance if that hasn't been addressed i.e. timing belt, tensioner, water pump ect.

Just my .02 cents.

On a t-25 it wont do crap, but a 14b it definitly will and a 14b is a "small" turbo.
