okay, i am wondering is the wastegate rod suppose to move when you rev or while driving on the gas pedal? i have my buddy of mine to rev it and i can see that the wastegate rod doesn't open or move at all even if we put it in gear and try to move the care around, and was wondering if this is normal.

my car has a o2house dump to atmosphere and when i floor it i can hear it only after a couple second after flooring it. is this also normal for 02 dump.

it will overboost about everytime i floor it over 20 psi even without a boost controller. i have the wastegate hose hook straight to j pipe.

how would i go about fixing this?

thanks in advance

What you are experiencing is boost creep, which is normal for the 16g. But you don't build much boost if any in neutral, so you won't see it move. To cure the boost creep issue, you need to port the waste gate flapper, or go external. I had to go external to cure my creep issue, I have a ported evo3 big16g with a upgraded 34mm flapper, and it still crept.

ROFL LOL ROFL

Your wastegate won't open (they will start to crack open earlier) until you reach your max boost pressure. That is how it is keeping your turbo from overboosting. You'll never be able to see it move by revving the engine or with it in drive etc.LOL

Sounds like your getting boost creep though.

Nice to know that. Got me worried for a bit here. Okay so it won't open till certain amount of boost.

Boost gauge meter will go non stop from 0 to whatever when flooring. It doesn't stop at let's say 15 psi then slowly creep over 20 psi. Is this still boost creep?

Not sure but will check more on it.

Thanks a lot guys.

Most people go with the 34mm flapper, when porting..It would be nice to have tho..turbotsi says even with the porting and the 34mm flapper, that it still creeps..You could go with an external wastegate, I'm sure that would clear things up in a hurry..But for a definitive answer Someone with an external and ported housing would have to chime in, here..

Have a big 16g turbo on my tsi and was having the same issue. I would say first have you checked the wastegate buy supplying air to it threw a compressor to make sure it is working? Second would be the size of your exhaust, if your running it with no back pressure that will make you run boost creep to full effect. What do you got for exhaust system

Most likely creep like every one else has said.

But could also be a bad actuator. The simple way to check it is doing a Boost leak test -which is always a good idea anyway. With the actuator connected to the "j" pipe you can tell exactly when it starts to open and far it will open. I have a cheep glow shift boost gauge that I "t" into a vacuum line so I can tell how much pressure I am pumping into the intake.

I say check the wastegate actuator before anything since It's the easiest.
I had the same problem. I just supplied air to the wastegate actuator using a bicycle air pump and air leaked from top of the actuator. I replace it with a used one ($20) and was back to stock 7 psi at wide open throttle.

It is such a pain in the ass combating creep. Honestly, dont even mess with bigger flappers. Just ditch the internal setup and go external. Thats what I did and never had to mess with it again.

what does that set you back roughly to go from internal to external?

Kinda looking at what kind of budget i would need to complete this before Import alliance and our annual tune in GA

Depending on brand and set up (manifold or 02 houseing) it will be between 300-500. But well worth it. I went with the punishment recirculated 02 housing for $250 and a tial off craigslist(brand new). All together cost 400.

ill tell you what i have in my car is there a way you can explain what exactly i need to change?

1g ebay turbo internal w/g
stock manifold
o2 eliminator j pipe
turbo back exhaust
38mm wastegate flange with no dump tube currently ( previous owner had a supremely ghetto rigged flex pipe held on with a bent coat hanger WTF )

Ummm..first ditch the pos ebay turbo before you destroy your engine. Second...what is a "02 eliminator jpipe"? Ive never heard of such a thing???

Buy a new e.w. 02 housing...either one that dumps or one that recirculates. Than buy a wg. Than remove the flapper from the hot side and weld the hole the arm came out of shut.

Downpipe sorry. o2 housing eliminator ( came with the car name brand unknown ) and as far as i can see its an ebay 16g as i cant find any markings otherwise and kinda looks cheap LOL . zero shaft play though.

As far as the pipe it has no housing for the o2 it just has a threaded bung mid pipe.

Destroy his engine how?..(newb question)
