I am swapping a 4g63 into my 2004 Crossfire using an adapter from Bill and a TH350 Tranny. I have been posting the build on projectzerog but i thought I may get more answers to questions over here. Will an Evo 8 manifold and turbo fit this rear wheel drive application? I'm not using the coolant pipe that goes from the water pump and behind the turbo because my inlet is up front. I'm not sure if that is the mounting issue or if the block is the interference issue.

Here is another pic, I am going to have the intake manifold modded so that the throttle body is up front too.

I dont think its gonna be a daily driven street vehicle. I've met the OP personally and sold him some parts about 6-8 months ago, If it were gonna be a Daily Driven street rod then I think he would have it on the road by now. Hes rocking the TH350 because it can take ungodly amounts of abuse, and I think he wants it that way.

And a 700r4 can't? trust me, even a 15min trip will suck with the engine buzzing 4500rpm+ on the highway. Pretty much any stock domestic rwd v8 transmission will be able to handle the torque a 4g and 16g will produce.

Oh but he wants a big turbo and xxx power in the future you say.. Well, the cost of building a overdrive auto to withstand 1000hp is still small compared to the cost of building a legit 1000hp 4g63 motor.

But then again, what do I know. I have a N/T.

This is not my daily driver. The rear axle is 3.27:1 and I have 28 inch tall tires on the car at the moment. I figured in a 10% loss for the non lockup converter and estimate just under 2600rpm@60mph and a top speed of 162mph@7krpm. So I am not worried about having overdrive. I"m actually looking into getting smaller/lighter wheels and tires considering I should be able to hit 70mph in first gear @ 7krpm.
The motor mounts are steel plate just under quarter inch thick. I do plan on triangulating them after I get everything finished.
I bought a low mileage 2004 Evo turbo with manifold last night. I am just putting together a street setup now and want to go with a full drag build in about two years.

Ohhh ok. Nice! You sir, thought ahead :thumb:. 70mph in first?! that would be quite a pull :hellyeah:.

ROFL Yes, but you also run high 11's. Which is faster than a lot of the GSX/GST/TSi's on here.

i suppose an evo intake would work but u might need to get a 2G head so that it matches up.

That thing is gonna be a turd off the line. turbo 350's don't exactly have a low first gear. Whats this thing weigh?

Also, you better get them mounts triangulated. They don't have near the strength required.

LOL, yes it will be a turd off the line, I think it will be good from a 35mph rolling start though. It weighed about 3150 pounds with the V6. I'm hoping to be around 2900 pounds or less. It has an open differential too so until I get a phantom grip it would just be a one wheel wonder.

Dude if you would read... He clearly knows what he is doing. He allready said that it he was gonna triangulate the mounts.

A 24 PSI 2 step launch and I bet that beast wouldn't be such a turd off the line. Of course with the open diff, you might just spin round in a circle.

I bet it would be fun with a full positraction rearend :hellyeah::cool:

Hell he can launch off a trans brake and rape out of the whole. Plus put what ever gear ratio he wants in the rear.

im curious to see how good of low end you will have with the 2700 stall along with th351ve if you dont go crazy with the cam it might work really good ill be watching good luck

Yes a Evo 8 16g will work.
Well, this turned out to be wrong. I got the turbo and manifold today and the compressor housing hits the block. It's not even close to fitting. But, the turbo is in excellent condition and I believe it will work with my Evo 3 manifold and flange adapter. It won't be a twin scroll anymore but I think it will work good. I'll check it out tomorrow.

Right now I am thinking the best solution to run the Evo 8 turbo is to buy a tubular manifold. Cut the flange off and add about two inches of pipe, then weld the flange back on.

I came across a Mighty Max thread where two exhaust flanges were used as a spacer for the Evo 8 manifold. I ordered two last night and will use longer studs. I should have some pics of this by Wednesday or so.

I guess its neat... If I were doing it though, it would be hard for me to choose a 4g63 over say, an LSX. Either way, props for being different, and best of luck on the outcome

I got the Evo 8 turbo installed today using the two flanges as spacers. It's a perfect fit. It started to rain as I was finishing it up. I'll put some pics up soon.:thumb:

I cut the end of the water pump off and have to pull it to have an elbow tigged onto it. I looked at the mighty max water pump but it would be aimed directly at the turbo intake. I bought an exhaust flange so I can have the down pipe/ o2 pipe custom built. It should be simple, it's almost a straight shot directly aimed where I wanted to route the pipe.:rocks:

Oh yeah, I was short one exhaust stud but will pick up another one when they are back in stock. That's why there is one mismatched nut on the manifold.

I love my awd too much to ever swap, but while shopping around for parts on my friends fc rx7 we learned that with the help of an adaptor plate, they will bolt up to a 4g63 and word on the web is they make for a pretty beastly rwd swap. Sorry I can't get a link at the moment but it might be something to consider both price and comfort wise. Those trannys take a help of a pounding from that rotary... just a thought... anyway, sick project, can't wait to see it going! Good luck with the build:thumb:

Subscribed. I'm not far away from you :D I would LOVE to see this. Did you decide on which tuning route to take? I want swap my computer to an evo 8 ecu just for the newer software, smoother running cause I don't need the extensive tuning capability with my n/t setup....but I will when I slap the evo III turbo on there in the future.
