Thanks for the replies, I still not sure if anyone answered my question all the way. when you buy a handle, can I get just the leaver and replace that into the assembly or do i have to buy the whole assembly all together and swap it out.? i got a guy that can paint it so that's not a problem.

Bummer, I had one snap on a parts car once. They're made of really flimsy plastic so you have to be really careful with them, especially if you get snow/ice and your doors get frozen shut. But like everyone else said, just buy replacements or wait for a partout. Not worth the money to buy new oem ones.

Buy this and you never have to replace them again

thanks man. Now this really helps. I will try these supports and try and fix my origional handle. Thanks everyone!

Fairly easy to replace, that is if you have little bi*** hands.

Its a pain in the ass if you have man sized hands.

I was wondering if I could just buy a new red handle

The whole point of my door handle repair kit is that you aren't forced to paint anything AND you don't need to buy Chinese crap that breaks again in a year or so. You re-use your original parts.

Thanks to dj99877 for providing my kit info for a better solution.

I've sold over 400 repair kits since I designed them in 2004. They are laser cut here in the USA and the brass hinge pins come out of Chicago.
I also am a supportting member of this site and have been here since 2003. Thanks to those who ordered recently.

That's exactly what I've done on about 5 different door handles, only I used thick coat hanger wires. 1 is enough, but 2 makes it open really nicely. A thicker gauge wire would work good as long as you can bend it. :hellyeah:

Your right. Should of thought of the hanger. I guess I can redo the write up and post better pictures!

So you are the one I bought those from, thanks alot I hope they work, like you said I don't want to buy crappy ebay ones. After Seeing these I cant believe the cars didnt get manufactured this way to begin with. Bravo :thumb:

Hey thought I would add a little closure to this thread. I Put those Support brackets into the broken Arms and then jb welded it together. Install was a bi*** but I got it together and it feels like a brand new door handle. Not all sloppy and chinsey like those ebay door handles. Plus I didnt have to repaint a new handle. I recommend it to anyone who has the same broken handle problem :thumb:

I can vouch for the repair kit - it is awesome and really pretty easy to install. Follow the thread linked in a post earlier above for the how-to on getting the handle off. Also, if you are looking at a junkyard, the handles (and the sunroofs and a number of other parts) from a mid to late 90s Dodge Avenger or Sebring are the same as our cars.

Got the repair kit as well and very easy to install as for if you havent figured out the locking mechanism theres a clip you pull off locking devise on the broke door handle, this way if you did buy cheap ebay door handle you could still have the original lock and key on the new door handle

Take that clip off carefully, dont force or pry it off, grab the closed end with pointed pliers and slide it off. You can easily crack the plastic "seats" where the clip rests in place if not.

I have the repair kit. It adds a solid feel to an otherwise flimsy piece. RCAZ ftw

Is removing and installing the door panel back a pita?

It depends on your skills. I think it's quite easy but some people have no patience and start yanking on things and thus break off tabs or damage the wire connector, etc. Take the time to slow down and do it right. The plastic is old and brittle so be prepared for some JB Weld repairs on the panel inserts or mounting holes.

The door handle is tricky to get out too but hundreds of people have done it with success.

...or just weld in a plate to cover the old door handle and put in a kick lever or keyless... Of course, this is completely impractical and totally unnecessary shenanigans that only nutcase masochists with too much time on their hands do... :thumb: :D

how is that even remotely close to being helpful?

Hey, it is an option. Besides, how many times do you want to read "get the rebuild kit"? Of course that's what most people would do... I have seen some who decided to forego the old door handles altogether though, and they don't have this problem anymore, so it is a viable solution.

Had this happen to me today. Put everything back the way it was. Now the door wont lock nor will the power locks un lock the door
