I'm just curious what kind of mpg people are ACTUALLY getting. And how the different mods are affecting that.
I know I am getting REALLY lousy mpg, but mine may be a combination of things. I'll post how it changes as I try to correct things. (of course any suggestions on what I may be missing in improving mpg would be great)

currently I am looking at a little over 10 mpg in town. (and this is with an automatic with the overdrive left on. And really the only mods are a 3" cat back exhaust. There is a bigger turbo there, but it hasn't been turned up yet)
And about 16 mpg on the freeway.:shhh:

I keep a good record of every fill up, as well as comparing my 91 oct MPG's vs. my E85 MPG's. Assuming E85 hovers around $2.89ga and 91oct hovers around $3.47ga, which we all now isn't going to happen...
E85 STATS
E85 Price: $2.89ga
E85 MPG: 18mpg
E85 cost per mile:$0.161
E85 miles per dollar: 6.228

91oct STATS
Gas Price: $3.47ga
Gas MPG: 24mpg
Gas cost per mile: $0.145
Gas miles per dollar: 6.916 Best

How everything adds up...
Miles you drive per year: 12,000
Cost per year, fueled with E85: $1,926
Cost per year, fueled with gas: $1,735
Gasoline not imported by fueling with E85 (per year): 400 gals
Reduction in green house gases with E85 (per year): 2,883 lbs

:dsm:

Thank You for that, :thumb:

since I have higher compression off boost, I get 20 or so around town and 32 or so on the highway with a 16g, full interior, and 14lbs of boost yielding 220awhp and 264 awtq. If I drive stupidly, you can half the numbers :)

staying off boost will give any of these cars that are in good shape about 30 hwy mpg. the right foot has the say so over mpg.

My mpgs are around 15 if I'm lucky. I have 18 inch rims currently (previous owner, not me). Could that play a large part? And as for other mods, I'm not really sure yet, I keep discovering that this thing has more and more power.

If gas was that high down here you would see me in a prius!!

Yeah but then again thats why I have a Camry Hybrid as well. And I live in the same state as you.

But I get 18-19 combined on 93 oct. 96 Eclispe Spyder AWD. Ebay big 16g, ebay short route front mount, wally 255, everything else stock.

I need to do a boost leak test again I know my BOV is leaking internally but I may have others I need to find.

I was driving the 07 Camry Hybrid every day until my Fiancée got a new job and needed it to commute so I parked my truck (06 Ram 1500 quad cab) and got the eclipse on the road. So now I am putting 70-80 miles a day on the Spyder AWD. I do miss the 40+ mpg I can get out of the Camry.

26 mpg if I take it easy on the gas pedal. Usually average ~24mpg.
When I take to the strip - less than 20 but not sure what it is exactly.

Check my mods this is a fairly well modded car.

Looking at those e85 numbers, I sure wish it was more available where I live. There is only one gas station within 60 miles that carries it.

Well, I finally got around to changing the plugs and wires. I didn't test the wires, but the spark plugs looked fine still.

I also replaced the thermostat. And now with that replaced, the temp gauge goes right up to where it should fairly quickly. :)

And so.. I lost the gas receipt, but if I remember the #'s correctly I am now getting at least 5 mpg better now.

I get about 18 city -22hwy depending on how much I am driving in town and how much right foot I am using. :D

i actually have done a study on this myself. my girl lives 40 miles away and for the past 5 months ive been trying to figure out my mpg.
if i drive abiding by speed limit i get around 30 mpg on hwy
if i drive like how we should drive our dsm i get around 22 mpg hwy
city wise when i'm broke and need to save on cash i get around 20 mpg
if i just got paid and dont care i get around 13 mpg

but seeing as premium gas is almost about 4 bucks here in LA i'm going to drive like a granny until gas goes down. LOL

1997 Eclipse GS 420A-powered daily driver.

Wintertime daily driving = 25-27mpg. You idle more in the winter to warm up the car, the car uses more fuel to get up to operating temp each time you drive it, and the motor oil and differential fluids are heavier and cause more drag.

Summertime daily driving = 30-32mpg.

I've gotten as much as 38 mpg on a trip to Lancaster for my cousins wedding a few years ago, and averaged 36.25 on the way out to the Shootout this year, and that included driving around Norwalk and waiting in line at the entrance to the track for almost 45 minutes with the car idling the entire time.

I'm going to miss her when she's gone, but having a boosted daily driver with less than half the miles on the odometer is going to be so much fun.

Don't cry about $3.80! Over here it's the equivalent of $4.60!

hey at least you have 93 octane here in Cali, we are stuck paying $3.60+ for 91 octane.

My 96 2g gets about 30 mpg on the highway but I am still retesting after adding a FMIC, 3" Turbo Back and k&n filter conversion.

Now that ground thats normally connected to the exhaust does it effect gas mileage?

Also what do you ground it to if your aftermarket exhaust does not have any bolts close to it capable of grounding it to that?

My first 2g was around 27-28 MPG on 93.

My 1g was around 14-15 MPG on 93. It ran a bi*** richer, and of course lower compression, and a few other factors mainly dealing with my driving habits.

Its all about the way you drive. I allways put in the clutch or bump the car into neutral going down hill.

I try and coast to a stop at any light or stop sign so I spend the minimum amount of time idling, I pulse glide. (Get up to around 10 over limit, and then let off the gas) I don't floor it. I shift low. (3k rpm usually no higher).

But when I got on it it would affect my MPG drastically. So I had my weekday mpg, 25+ usually, and weekend MPG in the 2g. 15-20.

The 1g was just to much of a blast to drive and it suffered significantly

Nope, that price is for 91.

And Tanro, coasting downhill uses zero fuel but putting it in neutral does.

it seems like if I were to keep off the pedal I get around 12 freeway 10 streets. But playing around like i do its more like 4 freeway 2 streets.

im getting like 25 highway and 17 city. I average around 21-22 mpg per tank. I am going to be installing one of tre's older 5th gears that make a 25% reduction in 5th gear rpms. That should allow me to get much better gas mileage on the freeway, being able to go 80 and under 2700 rpms

im getting 10 mpg highway and city!! its horrible but i'm going to try replacing my O2 sensors and i hope that should help my problem
You're filling your crankcase with unburnt fuel if your mileage is that bad. In short time you'll be changing rod bearings and main bearings if you don't get this diagnosed.

So going down a hill its better to stay in gear? Im confused

When you completely left off the pedal when still in gear (not idling) the ECU cuts off the fuel to the engine.
