I bought a tranny and realized it's a n/t tranny from what i've read here (F5M31). my car is a 93 FWD Talon Turbo (tranny f5m33). From what i've read you CAN put the 31 in place of the 33. The problem is the bell housing in the 31 is cracked and i want to know if I can exchange the 33 bell housing in order for it to work in the engine. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If you use the NT tranny, you have to use a NT clutch, which will not handle the power unless it is an upgraded clutch. Unfortunately the tranny has to be taken almost half way apart to switch the bell-housings. It can be done but if you cant do it or know someone who can it will prob cost you more than you want to spend. You can just have the tranny welded, but make SURE the mounting holes are aligned when it is welded or it will be nearly impossible to bolt it back up. Hope this helps :thumb:

So no matter what bell housing I use I need the NT clutch?

And the tranny is from a 1991 I think, my car is a 1993.

The F5M31 was never used in a 1G car in North America but were in Europe; the non-turbo transmission in 1Gs was the F5M22. With regards to DSMs, the F5M31 came in the 2G non-turbo Spyder vehicles.

You are absolutely sure it is a F5M31?

Well i bought it from a guy which bought the car for a mirage swap. I the pictures of the car and it's a 1991 eclipse turbo FWD. It does say f5m31 and its a little bit different from the f5m33. Also some time ago I had a f5m22 and it doesn't look too much like this.

Do I need the same bell housing or I can use the one from the f5m33?

Also I want to know which clutch, flywheel and pressure plate I need. And if the bell housings can be swapped because this one(31) is cracked and the throwout sleeve is broken also.

Thanks for the replies

i have a 98 eclipse with a 2.0 16 valve dohc engine,
when i get on it real hard it dosent wanna go to 2nd and then when i go from 3rd to 2nd it hardly goes at all any one know whats up?

Can't really tell. I just put the trans in but had to change the selector on the trans bc it looked like the '90 one. Didn't have to change anything else and feels good compared to the old busted one. Grinds a little on 2nd gear prob due to worn synchros or cheap quality fluid but it's definitely better than the one i had.
