Anybody got any pics or thoughts on using bassett or bart dirt track style rims on my 2g? Dirt track rims here in South Dakota are very easy to find and are only about $50 a piece brand new. The DOT legal bassett"s im lookin at are 15x7 or 15x8. I'me basically just looking for something for the front to mount slicks or drag radials on to use at the strip. Right now i have black painted stock 16" rims and am even debating using them all the way around to save weight if they look good. Im just undecided, something tells me they would make a 2g look pretty bada$$, like a crude racecar. The rims i am debating are in the second pic, but the style im thinkin it will give is like the first pic. It looks like a track machine you dont want to mess with when u see the tall sidewall hoosier's :hellyeah:

I agree that those would look crazy mean, although I don't think they would work.:toobad: I belive those are mostly made for rwd cars that require more of a zero offset wheel and I don't think they even make them with a positive offset. Running a wheel like that with zero offset will be hard on the front wheel bearings and make a fwd torque steer a lot more than they already have a tendency to do.:(

I had a set of Aero's back in the day when I was still FWD:

These were a 15x8, 5x4.5, and a 4.5" backspacing. About a year after I bought them, Aero discontinued that offset. They still do the 3.5", but you'd definitely need longer wheel studs and a hub spacer to run them. It's also worth noting that the wheel centers on these types of wheels weren't designed to clear brake calipers mounted as far outboard as ours, so even with a 4.5" BS, a 1/2" hub spacer is typically needed to space the wheel from the caliper.

Also, those wheels in the first pic above, are Motegi Traklites. They weigh almost half as much as any entry level Basset, Bart, or Aero, and they cost about 5x as much as well. I ended up buying those from that guy for my 2G. Pics are in my gallery. :)

I have a set of crager soft 8"s from jegs 15x8 with 5 or 5.5" BS $42.99 each

they barely rubbed the caliper bracket on my 2g .

Got any pics of them on the car?

And paul do you have any full side pics of your car with those rims?

Paul, those look sweet on your car.
+1 for interest in seeing the dirt track rims at a better angle.

Yes pics from u guys would be great!!! I thought ide be the only nut who's ever had the idea for dirt track style rims, i

Those did look sick on your car Paul.:D:D
Did you ever run the car at the track with those on there? If you did get a chance to try them I wondered how you thought they performed as far a torque steer etc.

I never did get to run them. I ended up trading them to Dan and he ran them on his Laser for a season before switching to AWD. But, IIRC, he dropped around a half second in his 60-ft just by running the slicks.

PS - I'm digging through the realllly old pics on the HD now. :)

Here are the dot legal sizes that bassett offers. any thoughts on which ones would work best? I kinda decided that i really would like to have them on all four corners. Any thoughts on which sizes and backspace would work best? is 8" wide a little excessive? i am fine with using longer studs and wheel spacers. I dont want rims that stick out from my fenders really far though, is that possible?

If i remember correctly on an 8" wide rim 5.5" backspacing is a 38mm offset which fits nicely on dsms.

Of those listed the 15x8 4.75 back space would be equivalent to a 19mm offset.

Someone correct me if im wrong but if you want them to not stick out much you will need to find at least 5.25" backspacing on an 8" wide rim which will be a 32mm offset.

i found cragar soft black 8 rims that come in a 15x7" rim that has a 4.25" backspacing. Would that bring me pretty close? Also will it even be worth swapping for my stock rims? How much do th stock 16" rims weigh?

Those should fit.

These diagrams should help you determine what will and wont fit. I have been using these to figure specs on different "circle track" wheels and then going through and looking at what others have fit in all different wheel sizes and tire specs and comparing them with what i have calculated.

If you need any help calculating things let me know.

Also for those that dont know the conversion from mm to inch is 1 inch = 25.4 mm
