Ok so i am heading home from work today and i am goin the speed limit of 65 [2800 rpm] , and FHP lightsem up behind me. The officer tells me i was pulled over not for speeding but my exhaust was too lound and it broke statute 316.293(5)(b).......... HAVING A MODIFIED EXHAUST SYSTEM!!!!!! @$115@. Now my question to my soflo dsmers... Have you ever heard of. Let alone be pulld over for havin a moded exhaust???

that can actually happen just about anywhere... depends on how bad the cops are. here in nc i've heard of a couple officers pulling over some of the big trucks and checking for catalytic converters on the side of the road.

^ Agree, yes it can happen anywhere. I actually got pulled over here in NM in albuqeruque. In the end they could not do anything about it since the county I live in does not have restrictions on modified exhuast. The county I live in is about 4 hours from albuquerque so they could not do nothing.

yup, Its illegal to have any modification done to your exhaust system in the state of FL and also they can stop you for w/e they want pretty much..

316.2935 (5)(b) No person shall operate a motor vehicle upon the highways of the state with an exhaust system or noise-abatement device so modified.

Well its not like mine is loud with the glass pak in it. Ive had the exhaust for the last two years and have passed multiple cops fhp included and never lookd at funny. Well i will fight it and more then likely win

That is wrong. You quoted 316.2935, he got charged with 316.293(5). One is EPA related, the other is noise related.

According to that law, you are guilty. Virginia has the same thing. This is how I got around it. I donate to the State Police (soon with donated to the Virginia Sheriffs' Association.) They send you a decal stating so. I put that decal on the driver side REAR window. I've been pulled over twice and let go both times.

A few months back, my friend and I were driving home in his wrx. At the time he had a cobb cat back, and for those who are unfamiliar, the cat-back looks completely like a stock exhaust, just a bit louder. We got pulled over by a state trooper and was questioned about the exhaust (he said the reason why he stopped us was because of the modified exhaust). We told him that it was a stock exhaust and that the rumbling sound may be due to an exhaust leak. He was kind enough to send us on our way with a warning.

In FL it all depends how you drive. I make a 100mile round trip everyday. I pass the same FHP and Polk Sheriff officer everyday for over a year, they wave nowadays...

I'm running a 2.5in dp, to full 3in exhaust with a wastegate dump. Its loud...

I think it all depends on where you get pulled over and specifically how that particular PD is. For example in Broward county I used to always get warnings from Margate PD but in every other city the cops would leave me alone and my exhaust wasn't even loud to begin with. I'm actually very surprised that FHP pulled you over, usually they only target speeders.

A friend of mine got pulled over for it, a while back in his TSI, and recieved the same ticket. But got out of it easily enough. All he did was put the stock exhaust back on when he went to court and told the judge he bought the car that way and thought it was legal but put the factory one back on, and they dropped the fine. Then he went back home a changed it back. Just appologize, say you will be more carefull next time and seem sincere. They will drop the charge most of the time, he prob pulled you over with no reason just gave you a ticket for the exhaust because they must have PC (probable cause) to pull you over, and there are TONS of loopholes to get around even that.

I've gotten a ticket by FHP for modified exhaust. The officer said it was too loud and modified (I had a cutout open). I asked her to give me proof with some kind of decible reader or something that it is too loud. She laughed in my face and gave me a ticket LOL. This was like 6-7 years ago now so I don't really remember what happened with the ticket.

I've gotten pulled over too by FHP, it's just a way for the state to make money.

I doubt you're blasting pass FHP with your wastegate open because you'd get more than just a noise ticket because wot is when your gate fully opens.

No, if your car is loud than it's loud.

If you open the throttle more it will make more noise if you let the car decelerate it will make a louder noise.

Anyone knows this if you're around cops put it in a higher gear low throttle clutch in and coast to stop lights.

Florida has no emissions testing, your car was loud the time you passed came near the LEO, so deal with it.

I haven't had any issues so far down here...and my talon was open downpipe for a good 6 months...it's all about the cop, his mood etc.

We had a dsm cruise yesterday and drove past a cop with 15+ dsms and one of them had no hood on and he didnt even follow us.

When I got the same deal about a daily Civic I owned, I put a stock exhaust on it went to court and just stated that I had no idea what the officer was talking about. Make them look like the fools. Burden of proof is on them, make them prove it is modified. They can't.

I think most cops just have better things to do (or are in pursuit of something else)

Great idea :thumb:

This is the reason i kept my complete stock exhaust system. Got pulled over once, swapped it back, ticket dropped. OP, unless you have the stock exhaust to put on, your not getting out of it. You broke the law. Just like window tint....if you have it and its illegal, your not ever going to "fight" your way out. We all know whats illegal to put on our cars and what isnt...deal with the fines, or dont drive a modded car. Pretty simple stuff.

stock exhaust pfff

3" downpipe to a cut out and then clamp the tube down to stock exhaust where the Cat use to be! Little raspy sometimes but at a flip of the switch you're rockin and rollin
