Is the HX40 a T3 or T4 (for my custom manifold) ?

I'm ordering a custom manifold for my build and I need to get the correct mounting plate for a future HX40. It will be a twin scroll, top mount, similar to the JM Fabrications but set for rear-wheel drive.

I absolutely will be going twin scroll. I will only go with a BEP hot side if I can find a stainless version with EXTERNAL wastegate.

I'm ending up spending so much on this manifold that I will want to spend as little as possible on the turbo. But eventually I will have more money or have to get the turbo rebuilt and upgraded and I don't want to have to mess with the manifold then.

With all of that said, and what is in my profile if it matters, do I want the manifold to be T3 or T4 ?

Thankx, David.

If your going twin scroll and with an hx40 you will want a T3 which is what most come with factory

I have a 17cm^2 twin scroll t4 that I am building a manifold for.

That's funny... all 3 of the HX40's that came through my shop at the end of last year had twin scroll T3 exhaust housings. The one that's still here also came in a divided T3 housing although it's in a bolt-on BEP housing now. I'm no Holset expert, but I've yet to see an HX40 in a T4 housing.

OP, better make sure you flange it for the right turbo. If you do in fact have the option to get either T3 or T4, I'd go T4 because it will leave you more future options as long as there is enough clearance around the turbo for something larger to take its place.

see what i get for posting early in the morning, the HX52's come in T4ish, its not exactly a T4 but with a little grinding it works

HX35's and HX40's both come in T3.

please forgive me, its monday LOL

My hx40 is a T4 twin scroll....

I think I will get the manifold in T4 and if I have to I can get a T3/T4 divided adapter. That way if I decide to get a; or upgrade later to a, HX52 then I will already be set.

Quick question, how does the size of the Holset HX-52 exhaust and compressor housings compare to that of a Precision 6062 ?

The shop I'm getting my manifold from says that they have a Precision 6062 and it clears the hood.

Tell them you need it to clear a GT42 if you want it to clear an HX52. I have both sitting right here and they're very similar in size, the Holset just a tad smaller. I haven't had a 6062 in my hands but I can't imagine it being as large as either one of these 2 turbo's, nowhere close really.

I was told that same thing before I bought the dark performance t4 manifold. Needless to say its supposed to be a replica of the dnp which is supposed to fit a gt42. The compressor housing hits the 4 runner and will not bolt together. Not sure what to do about it.

Grind the compressor cover a bit? My DP manifold is on its way here as well and I will be hanging an hx40 from it.

Seems like you could just get a spacer for it. A 1/2" should work fine. If you can't find a stainless one then just send it to someone like SwainTech Coatings and have them ceramic coat it so it doesn't rust on you.

My 58mm 8blade hx40 had a 19cm t4 housing on it when I recieved it
