"Sleeper" is really a subjective term; however; old & beat up, or completely off-base(vans) vehicles that go fast should have their own category. Restorations in progress are understandable, but besides that I really don't understand the appeal at all, but to each his own.

To me, any non-exotic car can be a sleeper. It's all about being subtle with the exterior, and hiding performance upgrades. For example, a blacked-out intercooler :sneaky:, deceptive exhaust set-ups, lack of body modifications, etc.

Exhibit A; 10.88 sec 1/4 mile, 603 hp, 510 ft-lbs(on 93 octane), AWD Spyder:

That, my friends, is a sleeper.

Yeah it is a sleeper. Thing you have to realize is that cars can look like shit, or look very clean on the outside. And still be sleeper. I know you could pull about 2.5-3 seconds on me in a quarter based on your times. I bet you would just run the #### away from on street. But if we were at a redlight, I would run you. And I would bet to myself I am gonna kid this guys ass.

Just because it is a spyder, and most spuders are slow. Or even if it where a hard top. With those wheels and the lowrise spoiler I would think it were a RS.

But if your like me, my sleeper would have ever drop or cash poured into the engine/suspension/tires/brakes and I could give a shit about painting it, fixing dents, or fixing previous owners failure at tinting windows, etc.

TLDR:
Sleeper is very all-encompassing term.
It can be a mini-van that runs 8s, or a clean ass 2g Spyder Running 10s. It can be a beater ass looking rx-7 with a blown engine, or it can be a Olds with a monster v-8 that just roars. You wouldn't expect it to walk on your ass just by looking at it.

This is the winner.

I do not think that a Sleeper has to be ugly on the outside. To me a Sleeper is a car that does not try to catch your attention or that you would not think that it has the potential it truly does. Example, Convertibles are by a good amount of people underestimated. Most people look at Verts as fun in the sun Cruisers. If it does not have some wild roll cage then it is not that fast. My Mustang gets underestimated alot because it is a Vert. DSMs in my mind get the same treatment because they are older and most people do not make them flashy like other imports. A Sleeper I believe is a car that more time and effort was put into performance than looks. Not saying they are ugly or beaters, just not flashy. A car that will win a show can be a sleeper if it is done correctly. It just takes time, effort and a well thought out plan.

Rb20 cressida my buddy is building, We've go everything in it the only thing that needs to be down is the down pipe and drive shaft. It used to have a sr20 in it my friend Ben from our website swapped in to it. Lol every been beat by a camry ;)

Thats with the sr in there.

Holy bat shit.... What the #### is under the hood of that? I know dodges came with a mitsuengine didnt realize the ones that new did. Damn turbo sounded like a jet engine.

The guy in the camaro is like "well im selling this gey-eight"

6g72 and 2.2t carvans, CSMs, 4g63 eleantras GMC syclone/typgoon, shelby glhs omni, all faded, missing trim, dented up, wingless turbo DSMs and MM/d50s are some of the best sleepers IMO

The caravan had a 6g72? Isnt that the same thing in the 3000 GT? If so I am gonna laugh my ass off at my friend that has one.. He also has a riced out Eclipse RS. Next time I see him I am gonna be like "So... you know what I found out? My mom's caravan had a the same engine as your 3000 in it.... Sounds like you shoulda got a caravan instead of spending 9000 dollars on a car that never leaves your driveway.

BTW His 3kgt is a SOHC FWD Automatic with the Popup headlights that I believe are ugly... He is really dumb for buying that pos.

yup, the 3.0 was pretty much a SOHC 3kGT motor.... you could also get them with a 4g54(g54b) i think, the non turbo 2.6l version of the starion/conquest... or a chrysler motor.. 3.3 v6, 2.5l, or turbo...
i have no clue why i remember this chit, LOL.

that video has a SRT4 motor.

i would also like to note that sundance duster's had a 6g72 also

Before when i was going the sleeper route and then after when i gave up on the sleeper aspect.
Could easily make it ugly again if i wanted to and still run mid to high 11's. Currently building the bottom end to really turn up the wick.
