Is the GSX Muffler pipe supposed to be bent?

So I received my downpipe, 3" Cat and Cat_back, but I think I need to send the Muffler and attached pipe back. Just to verify, attached are two photos of the dent in question.

My question is: is it supposed to be bent here to clear part of the rear subframe or is this shipping damage? Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! It is an eBay 3" SSR. It actually looks really good, but two things concern me:

1.) Obviously the dent

2.) The box says it is for Eclipse GST, but the configurator on their site says this part # fits the GSX...we'll see.

If this all works, I will have saved like $800, but if not, I will have wasted a lot of time and money shipping everything back!

Thing is, I need exhaust, not just for performance, but because my stock exhaust has a 4 inch long hole in the downpipe and I can't pass inspection in Virginia! :ohdamn:

Send us a picture of the entire layout and we can tell you if it is a GST or GSX. How you would have saved $800.00 is beyond me, unless they paid you to take that exhaust. My Thermal R&D 3" and PR DP ran me under $700.00.

Oh, I got a downpipe as well and a new Catalytic Converter. Yeah, I'm trying to be cheap right now as I have already sunk a lot of money in replacing the entire front end suspension, four new wheels and tires, rear wheel bearings, transmission seals and motor mounts.

Whomever owned this car before me obviously did not believe in any sort of maintenance! I mean, the front suspension was absolutely shot, the ball joints were just sitting in their mounts and 2 of the 4 came apart in my hand!

I dont think thats going to fit your gsx. Some of the 3" exhausts that are made for the gst, where the exhaust goes over the rear subframe have a dent like that so it fits. It looks like thats what you may have there.

Here is a photo of the full exhaust:

Guys, as always, thank you very much for your help! I am slowly, but surely learning about this car. I will return this and I guess bite the bullet on either a Thermal R&D or an Apex-i exhaust. How frustrating, but that is what I get for trying to be cheap

EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts - Megan Racing 3" Cat Back Exhaust System: Mitsubishi Eclipse 95-99 AWD

It would be $433.00 shipped from this site, they have a $7.50 handling charge on all orders, free shipping otherwise.

I am not affiliated with ExtremePSI.com, it just happened to be the site I had up at this time. As always other supporting vendors here offer that exhaust at similar prices, so shop around if you wish.

$566.50 is what the cost on the the Termal would be from the same site, so $133.50 savings.

Thanks bud! I really like the look of the Thermal Exhaust actually, I think I'll just pony up the extra cash for it and be done with it.

That SRS Exhaust on eBay installs great, sounds great, and looks great. The price is the best part about it though. I think the whole exhaust from the turbo back ran like 300? Don't get discouraged cause it is eBay. Do your research. Some stuff is good, some stuff isn't. eBay has a awesome item policy. All you have to do is ask the seller to fix their mistake and if they refuse you can file a claim and have it dealt with legally. Best of luck.

i dont understand why people push 600+ on exhaust .. its like buying brand name intercooler piping.. i didnt have a problem paying 60 dollars on universal IC piping and puzzling it myself instead of paying 150+

i bougt a turbo back on ebay but was missing the cat part so i just installed a pipe with flanges on it and i was fine.. paid 180 for it on ebay... whilst people spend 600+ dollars for perfect fitment.. which dont get me wrong is great.. but not my preference.. id rather spend and work a little then pay alot and work a little still either mounting it or also paying someone do it..

But that, you purchased is messed up.. and maybe could have happened even with any other exhaust if its due to shipping damage..

Because my "full stainless steel" exhaust off eBay rusted out. At least with the Thermal R&D I know I am getting what is promised, and not taking a crapshot on an eBay exhaust.
