Good call. I sold my talon and bought an Evo a couple days later. In no way do I regret doing that. The Evo is leaps and bounds better in every way then dsm's. Good luck with car shopping.

eh, i dunno about leaps and bounds in every way. EVOs are more reliable and newer/nicer than DSMs, but they're pretty similar....they had 4g63s for the longest time until recently. They're not THAT much better. EVO cost a bit more, and they're a bit better in most ways.

I laughed quietly to myself at this. Evos are nicer stock sure. More expensive to build. More expensive to maintain.

I would have a good Evo VIII/IX For a daily. But not a project car.

theyre a bit or A LOT better in every way that can be looked at objectively and they should be with the price tag and manufacturing year differences.

Yeah I don't know if Ill be back. The car is clean and could just use some paint. Only has 119400 miles on a 1991. But as it sits there is no heat,no a/c as it was taken out by previous owner, been fighting clutch problems for 3000 miles. Plus just had the oil pump seals replaced during exam week along with the water pump and timing belt. 4 months and 3200 miles of nothing but problems. The car before this was my pos crx. Had that for 5 months and it lasted only 9000 miles before it died. Its going back together tomorrow to hopefully get threw the week. Other than that its fix this car and get it sold. I have a Firebird that will get a new transmission from the money from the honda and eclipse.

You wanna drive it halfway to me? ;3 I'll compensaaaaate.

If you sell it what you looking to get out of it? I am only a couple of hours from you and I have a full motor and clutch sitting in my storage and have been looking for another 1G.

I may drive it to sell it. First I need to get it back at the house. And it has a new zoom stage 2 clutch with fidanza flywheel. Been in there for 3k miles. Don't know yet. Ill have 4k in it. I know its not worth that much. I think about it and PM you.

Well guys I am calling it quit on my GSX. On the way back to my friends house last night I think the head gasket let go. May have something else gone bad since when its running there is water coming out of the exhaust as soon as it start running. Goes threw my crack in the manifold. This has not been the only problems with my car. In 3000 miles the problems have just gone on and on. So I am going to fix the car as long as nothing else has broke. Then its going up for sale. I would like to keep the car but need something to get back and forth the college and work with out the daily small repairs. Right now its car shopping time so I can get around. Ill be around till I can get the car back to my house and start tearing it apart.

The 4g63 if not beat on and hacked up is actually a very reliable engine. Look at how many 150k+ of these cars there are on the original motor, a lot of them are beat on/modded even.

Just replace the headgasket, going to cost you around $60 and 2-3 hours of time if you're in a hurry and aren't going to resurface your head. If so, not that much longer. I'll even sell you an OEM headgasket for like $30.

Buy a clutch if thats your issue. You can get one for cheap used off here, I'm assuming you're on a stock one. They don't like abuse with even stock power. It could even be as simple as adjusting your clutch, DSM's love to have shitty adjustment.

I hate how the 4g63 is considered so unreliable by people when in reality it's one of the most reliable factory turbo cars. People just beat on them and freak when they have problems and then dont fix them right. My laser has around 500whp, was a DD for 3 years, beat on here and there and I just had to do a headgasket on it. OEM Headgasket and 25psi running around 475whp for 3 years did it in. So far aside from the headgasket, my car has been super reliable and I have a lead foot.

Leaps and bounds better in every way then dsm's
LOL

See here's the thing. Evo's are a much 'higher spec' car from the very beginning than DSM's. Most evo's are bought new by people who have plenty of money. A lot of them have the money to maintain the car, and many will even have them serviced by the dealership/performance shop for any issues.
Most people also who buy evo's if they are the ones modding it, they usually have the money to do things right.
Evos were made/priced for people who specifically wanted a performance car.

DSM's were priced to be affordable by most people's standards. They could be afforded on relatively low budgets.
So many people who buy DSM's will take short cuts here and there, even I do, the problem is a lot of people who don't have money will do half-ass jobs just to make it work 'for now' and then well its going to more than likely break.

DSM's when they were new, were affordable to be bought by almost anyone. The economy was better back then, a lot more people could afford 12-20k on a new DSM. ( I throw the figure around carelessly as the title price on my 1.8 laser was 12k and my title price for my awd talon was 18k, dont know what my lasers is, probably 18k)

Is an evo going to be more modern, more amenities, and have a bit more finesse in some areas? Yes, of course. It's only been around for as long as DSM's.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have an Evo. However if I was building a race car I'd much rather have my 1g DSM. Cheaper to buy parts for. Easier to work on. The new EVO's with their new motor have such a limited aftermarket now, and from what I hear are a lot more complex than the 4g63.

Also, no evo is faster than the fastest DSM :)

Quit being a p*ssy and keep it. If you saw all that I had to fix you would geek out....and yes I just finished my head gasket job 3 months ago.

If it is your only car. Yeah you probably need to sell it and get something for a daily.

If not. use your tax money to fix that bi***. I am getting nearly 3 grand back. Basically getting everything I payed in minus a couple hundred. Tax time is nice for college students with low income. We get basically everything we payed in back. If your in my boat, file your damn taxes.

Yeah It would be somewhat nice to have the car running good. Yeah I am getting about 500-600 back in taxes. However I have not had a reliable car in about a year. It sucks fixing a car every week just to get around. I mean on the eclipse here is the list of everything I have fixed in the last 6 months.

-Transmission with New transfer case
-14b Rebuild
-Injectors
-Lower Control Arms with Tie rods
-Timing Belt and Water Pump
-2 Piston brakes with new everything.
-Tires and Rims, Needed Tires put had two sets of rims
-Oil pump seal, Had to pay for that as it failed during exam week.
-New clutch and flywheel with new master and slave.

I am just having no luck being able to rely on the car as it has had a major break down about every 1000 miles. It gets really old as I am a poor college student. So its time to pass the car on to someone who will enjoy it.

I'd like to see what people say about the Evo when it gets to the 15+ year club. ;)
I was thinking the EXACT same thing as I was reading this thread.

Eventually, they will become older, cheaper, and subsequently will be maintained less, and more prone to be molested by the ignorant. In 15 years, they will be no different than a DSM is today.

I'm tellin' ya. Meet me halfway. ;3

Yes I have sooo many things on my "to fix" list, but my DSM is still my daily driven project car.

If you cant handle it, then its good you sold it, but for us DSM'ers, we'll have fun while you stare at our tail lights. :tease:
