So I purchased a engine block and cyl head for 300 bucks and a free oem bumper. The head doesn't have bearing caps.I want to get some at a junk yard, unless I can find them new. Sense I am putting new cams in why cant i just take this to a machine shop and make sure every thing works.
Next its missing the bottom end where the main bearings are held. I plan on putting a new crank, bearings, rods ect in it.

You'll need to take the head with the replacement caps to get line honed to ensure proper roundness on each cap.

The second part of your potential question didnt make sense at all.

You have wasted your money. No shop in the valley will line bore a 4g63 block for mismatched caps, and to line bore the head will cost more than another head. A line hone is for small differences in roundness. If there is more than a .003" step between mismatched caps, they will have to bore it. I took an ams o-ringed block to the landfill because it didn't have the main caps.

That's something you'll have to ask your school especially as you are the one going there.

You can always try just about anything. A buddy of mine told me how his dad fabricated a main bearing out of shoe-sole leather and it worked! Keep in mind this was nothing close to a high power engine, probably a model T or something. If I were you, I would try to get my money back. Nothing sucks more than finding out your shortcut didn't work. For $300 you should be able to find something better, the deck of that head looks kinda poor. Start with high potential for success, because in an engine build, all the little things you do (and don't understand) will gather together, have a meeting and decide which one wants to ruin your engine on startup (or 1000 miles after). In my experiences, a small block chevy rebuild seems to be much more forgiving than a rebuild on a turbo 4g63.

Jay racing sells main bearing caps about $300 a set. If you are going to do that might as well put in ARP studs and MAIN bearing cap dowel kit. Extreme PSI sells these parts.Make sure you line bore the block. Also when you bore out the cylinders make sure you have the machine shop use a torque plate for boring the cylinders. This will keep the cylinder bores square to the crank.

What i'm saying, and i build a ton of 4g63's in the phoenix metro area, is that no machine shops in maricopa county will line bore a 4g63. If you want to fit different main caps, you will need to send the block out of state. I must have called 20 machine shops trying to get an o-ringed block i had line bored for different caps. It's in the glendale landfill.

I have a guy that I know that is selling me his Block, He has everything even the crank in, I am looking for another head in a few months. I am just going to see what uti says about everything. But now I know where to get special parts.
