So I got home from iHop with a friend like an hour ago, and everything was fine and dandy(I thought) and went to bed. I woke up to my neighbor screaming and banging on the doors. I run outside thinking a murder happened or some shit and what do I hear? "Your car is ON FIRE!" so I think he is talkign about my mom's car or something because hey I had a DSM they never catch on fire. I put shoes on adn run outside to see my whole ####ing front end covered in flames. Needless to say all the money and time spent on rebuilding my motor, tuning and everything is now down the shitter. I caught three pictures of the car so yeah I figured I would let you guys laugh at my pain right now. Oh and it's a 1990 so we didn't have full coverage on it. Mainly because I don't have a job. I'm literally speechless because we had just rebuilt the motor and done all this work to it and finished it up in May. Now I'm screwed over.

I really have no idea what could have caused it. I drove it around 7pm last night, and came home from iHop at around 330 am and everything seemed fine. Needless to say less than an hour later it was up in flames. I have never really had a feeling where I thought it was a dream except my motorcycle wreck and now this. I kept telling myself to wake up and watching it burn. It reminded me of a movie, but this time there I'm not seeing a happy ending

This is one of my top two biggest fears for my car. The other would be totaling it in a wreck. Sorry to hear about this man. I think I'm going to find a fire extinguisher before i finish my build.

Wow! I think discovering the cause was lost by the destruction. When I first read your post, I was thinking that maybe it was severely vandalized as the car seemed away and nicely tucked away. I have never heard of a DSM (or any car for that matter) catching fire. I do agree with getting a small fire extinguisher for the tools kept in the car. It is very sad that most of our lessons come at the misfortune of others. I am very sorry.

Did you leave the garage door up or just put it up when you saw the fire? If it was left up, do you think there's any chance it was done intentionally/arson? That's too bad though....:( Sorry to hear that.:|

I forgot I made this post but I came back and I'll answer the questions: I didn't drive the car so it was just sitting for about 8 hours, and I believe the battery was touching the hood which caused it to short from what everyone was telling me. The story about the battery is terrible because I took the battery out of my laser(which is a parts car and I have sold now) and the guy I bought the laser from didn't tell me that the battery inside was not the right battery, so stupid me I just went to Auto Zone and got that size battery. I still believe that someone set it on fire but who knows I'll never find out now. Also the car wasn't in my garage, it was in my car port which had no doors etc. Also I have after pictures but if you want to see them just send me a request on Facebook(Matthew Underwood in Fort Defiance VA) because Im lazy and don't feel like uploading them right now on here. I sold the fire car for 500 to a friend who wanted the motor and rear end basically. I'm trying to find a 2g to buy now and saving for better motor setup.

I think I just cried a little...

damn man at least your ok...and my friends bmw did the same thing to he found out he had a wire short that caused his to catch on fire 1995 e36 m3 supercharged really sad....so every since i disconnect my battery when im not driving my car crazy shit happens
