Okay guys! haha i was thinking about this the other night..
And well, whenever i start my car up in cold i get that squeel that we ALL love o so much! =D

But anyways, i was wondering.. Before you even get in your dsm to turn the car on before leaving somewhere.. Do you warn the people that their gonna hear a "squeel of death!" or not?

Or better yet what the hell do you tell everyone the noise is!
Because i sure as hell am annoyed with explaining what it is haha

:D

Lol tighten the alternator belt... If its still slipping then I would replace it with a Dayco belt, Dayco is now making Mitsu's Accessory belts.

jokingly at meets and stuff, I tell 'em it my supercharger whine. I get laughs, but normally, I tell others about it and that it'll go away after a minute.

Sometimes I wanna kill the car, that squeal annoys me so much.

I used to just tell people "my cars a pos"

But then I found out it was just a loose alternator belt, I never realized that you just have to keep tightening it because it'll always seem to already be tight when you can still tighten it more. Unless the belt is bad it shouldnt squeal if tightened correctly.

Believe me! This thread isnt to help fix my belt! ive had three different belts on and cleaned the pulleys and tightened them to spec, Loosened and tightened .. it fixes it and comes back!

i just wanna know what you all tell people! hahaha because i know people ask "WHY DOES YOUR BEAUTIFUL CAR SQUEEL"

haha i laugh at this question all the time

Tell them check the tension on the ps or alt belts, and its either loose or over tighten. If you wanna mess with the person say its a pita job, would cost them a 100 bucks from a shop but I'd do it for you for half price. :sneaky:

I tell them i need to replace my damper because I overtightened my alternator belt attempting to fix the sequel but only made it worse.

"don't mind my DSM belt squeal. Only real DSM's have it....."

something along those lines.

i dont even HAVE that adjustment screw . guess it was removed awhile ago. gotta get a junkyard pickup soon cause the belts are downright RUDE. every stop and go it does it.....

I put on a new Gates belt and tightened it ... no more squeal.

Doesn't take much of an explaination that way.

I don't have a squeal anymore but when I did I didn't beat around the bush. I just told them it was a piece of shit.

I didn't tell them anything. A squealing belt is a squealing belt. No big to me since it went away anyways.

When I did my rebuild, I got a new alternator, made sure pulleys were aligned and used new belts and never made a sound.

Gone, then comes back. But usually if the car is warm, it's fine. But in the cold weather? Squeals on every startup just about. But goes away within 2 minutes usually. I guess the friction heats the belt up & it grips? :idontknow:

It's not that the belt is lose, it's because the fine felt that is in the grooves of the belt wears off over time and causes a squeak.

Try this, and please use extreme caution.
I will not be held liable for any bodily injury when attempting this belt squeak fix.

1.) Procure one of those fat kindergarten crayons, black preferably.

2.) Peel a portion of the wrapper back and rub the crayon on the grooved part of the belt.

That's it, and I guarantee the belt will not squeak when you start your car again!

Oh, and best of all, my in a previous life, my wife used to work at an Auto Parts store that only sold hard parts, ie., racks, power steering pumps stuff like that.

She knows her sh!t when it comes to older cars.

She told me the belt squeal fix...

the gst squeals like a mother chucker when it's first started. pretty embarassing when you have to start the car in the weeeeee morning hours. :\ i blame it on the a/c clutch that's fixing to die, but will soon be replaced :)

its just my crank walking.

I just spray a little WD-40 or PB Blaster on the belt and it wont squeal when i start it up. you'll have to do it daily though.
