Just what the title says. I have looked and checked and searched to no solution. I think that my ECU is the problem. I have a 96 GST, factory fuel setup, ngk bpr7es plugs, ngk wires, and pr fmic. Car was driving just fine, made a turn and then she went dead. When I started it back up is was barely running, very sluggish throttle response, and running pig rich. I have searched on here for suggestions and tried most of them with no success. Now I am out of ideas. An ECU is the last thing that I wanted to try but I dont have a known good one to see. I do have a 03 EVO8 ECU but it does not have the immobilizer disabled yet: thats another project. So, is there anyone in the local Central Texas area that is willing to help me out with this. I am open to getting the Evo ecu relashed to not include the immobilizer as well. Any help is appreciated.

I have pulled ECU and looked at it. I did not see any burn damage or bad caps nor did it have a "fish" smell to it. Is there a way to check it properly? Also, both fans turn on as soon as the car is started.... the a/c is not on. Didn't happen before. Here is what I have changed/checked to date:

the MAS
ignition coil
fuel filter
fuel pump
fuel injector
voltage
boost leaks
coolant temp sensor to ecu
general "lookover" of the car

Im stumped

I am trying to get one but I have not yet. I may have to use money for tactrix cable to buy ecu. I would appreciate the base rom though to use when I do get the car running again. Do you know of one for sale at(tactrix cable)? I have searched craigs and ebay but no luck.

I have a 97 ECU finally installed. Car runs much better now. I still get some small misfires at mild acceleration. Is this due to something else needing to be swapped? I have already swapped the plug wires. I read something about the injector wires or the injector signal at the ecu. Can someone confirm for me? Thanks in advance

Absit, you said that the 95/96 CAS/ firing order are different, i recently purchased a '97 ecu to replace what i thought was the original but turned out to be a '96. My baby is a '95 gst and ran great with the one that came in it when i bought her. Although the ecu was fried, she still ran, until i swapped them out. Now she wont start with either! So, with what you have said i further believe i 'confused' her by putting in the '97 ecu, would reflashing work? Which brings up another concern, i have read on the forums that '97 ecu can't be reflashed, but this doesnt make much sense. So, could my problem be because of the different CAS/ firing order? All info and help is greatly appreciated. I am a newbie and this is my first tuner but Ive already learned so much about thses cars. thanx dsmers

I take it that you are trying to put a 97 ecu into a 95 dsm. If so, you do have to change some things. if you just directly swap the ecus the car will turn over but will not start. You will need to swap your spark plug wires around at the coil. Your current plug order, looking at the coil, facing the car from the front, should be 3-2-1-4, you will need to swap them to be 4-1-2-3. This will allow you to start your car. If you look closely at the mount for the coil, it will have the order engraved on it. I just did this yesterday but I think that I need to do something with the injector wires. I've heard some people have problems wth the injectors and some dont. go figure
