Hey guys, I was doing some searching and couldnt find exactly what i was looking for. My current set up is an evo 3 16g, BC 272s, fmic, 1050s, etc. I will be switching to e85 in the very near future. So my question is will is see any real benefit from getting a smim. Would it be worth the money for my setup? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

With just E316g, i dont think an SMIM is really required.. it doesnt flow that much air that justify upgrading to SMIM.. Btw, i think there are alot of discussion about this already..

I realize that is not required. And i have searched and found some information on the topic but nothing that hit on exactly what im asking.

A turbo is what flows air into the combustion chamber, intake manifold is just part of the route. For about $400-500 u'll need to upgrade to SMIM, I would sell of the 16g & upgrade the turbo to a 20g or bigger.. That would be better cost / power. Make more flow into the engine, then only you upgrade the route. unless if u are looking to bling up your engine bay, then its your money, your choice..

A SMIM is not necessary at your level, your stock 1g mani is more than suffice for what you're doing.
Save the money and invest it elsewhere.

Thanks for the input guys. The only thing that makes me not get a bigger Turbo is my car is auto and I am worried about how much power the stock converter can/will hold. I shift at 100% line pressure at the flip of a switch so I'm not too worried about the tranny itsself just the converter

When you expect peak power over 6500 rpm's, a smim will out perform the 1g mani. A smim is another way of moving the torque curve to the right. If your turbo falls off after 6500ish rpm's, you are moving your intake's efficiency range out of the range of the turbo. Now, a large turbo that will hold boost to 8000rpms has the intake's efficiency moved into its operating range with a smim, and will increase power.

keep the stock mani for now. You're only on a 16g and won't really need it unless you are planning on revving out to 8k or so. If you have the head setup for it and do rev out that high, then sure, go for it.

Magnus SMIM if you really feel like you need one. Theyre freakin expensive.

If you plan on moving past the 16g go ahead and get the SMIM. It may not be ideal for what you have now but in the future in may be just what you need. Especially if you are getting a good deal on one...
