anyone else excited about the OBD1 law in new york effective in january? lucked out with my car being a 95... no more inspection issues for us with 1995 or earlier cars :D

well new york is pretty strict on these type of things this is a big deal I think

I thought this was old news. The only thing they have done to my 95 accord for the past 2-3 years is a visual inspection and make sure the Check Engine Light wasn't on.

I want to say its been this way for like 4-5 years now.

yeah I just learned of it cause i just had my car inspected by my dads friends shop even though I've always been good cause he would just use a different car for my sticker cause i have no cat... but anyways he told me effective in January they changed the emissions law to 15 years old instead of the current 25 years old... If you look on your NYS inspection sticker it should say Saftey/Emissions... whereas when this comes into effect it will just say saftey

I also have a way around getting my car inspected but this is news to me and it is good

The area of PA that I have my car registered in only requires a visual inspection so I have a test pipe with the shell of a cat welded over it. I'm still jealous that you won't have to do anything to get around emissions though.

In NY if your car is 11 years old (or older) regardless of OBD, emissions don't matter. It's been that way for as long as I can remember.

False... received an inspection TODAY... (my car is a 1995) in the sticker it says saftey/EMISSIONS which means it must comply with ALLL saftey and emission regulations

ps everyone loves yoohoo especially with a little rum :thumb:

IA = nothing at all for emissions, it's the only thing I like about Iowa
scratch that, i forgot about our cheap E85 stations everywhere.
<3 that too, 2.10 a gallon hell yeah

They dont even know what the word emissions is here in Oklahoma haha

95 is OBD 2, but we wont let them know that for your sake!

MN has no emissions laws either. Good thing too! I don't think any of my cars would pass.

I am not sure how exactly it works in New York but in New Jersey they are removing emissions check at the inspection facility, but that doesn't mean they will not do a visual inspection to see if you have a cat or not. They have a long stick with a mirror to check if there is one under you car.

So people gut that cat! hollow it out.:thumb:
