does anyone here live near me and would possibily be willing to check my car out and tell me what you think about it and everything that seems wrong or something that needs tweakied. i just got it back from the shop and spent like 8000 dollars there and it still isnt running right and im getting kind of annoyed. i dont really have any money because i spent it all on the shop. but it would be really appreciated. I live on kent island md. or stevensville md specifically

well what exactly is it doing first , we can try and help on here , second go to that damn shop and complain

Haha it is just starting funny. There is no waste gate or boost controller on it right now because I need to break the motor in. It is a 6 bolt 2.3 stroker and has a sc63 turbo and 850cc injectors. When I go to start it it cranks but doesn't start and sometimes it starts up and revs to about 1500 but dies out. The shop said to floor it and that cuts gas off to the motor and it should start up. So I try that and it makes it a little better. It could take up to 15 minutes to start it. But once it's started it idles good but if you cut it off it may take just as long to do again. Every once in awhile it starts right up. I checked the coolant temp sensor and it seems okay but on the front of that water pipe where the sensor plugs in at there are two prongs with niching attached. Is this anything? I'm thinking maybe too much fuel, bad spark plugs, or maybe bad gas... Any ideas

Have you tried putting on the wastegate and boost controller? You really should have all yuor parts installed before you worry about whether or not the car starts. Making a car that's partially apart run proves nothing.

thats a good point. i just didnt want to boost it while i break it in. ill try that haha.

Install both parts. Just turn your boost controller all the way down or be gentle on the throttle, really not that hard. And without a wastegate, it's always open. But the computer thinks you're making boost, and will continue adding fuel, making you run super rich. Another thing would be to check and make sure your plug wires are all routed correctly. Mine were way off until I changed them a few weeks ago. It would eventually start and run really rough. But after swapping them around, it starts on the first try.

This is Kevin, who works on his car the most and I am not an talon or mitsibishi guy, more along the lines of domestic but what would the waste gate have to do with it. It is a tial waste gate so the computer never sees when the waste gate is open or closed and the boost controller only controls when the waste gate opens so as long as the line is the plugged how would it matter? I have a turbo car and have messed with a few non factory turbo cars so I'm not sure if there is a difference or not? The plugs are coil on plugs so unless they were wired up wrong, also when it is running it runs fairly smooth so I don't think that could be it. But noticed that I am not hearing the fuel pump when the key is in the ignition, but hear it after you stop turning the car over. Haven't had much time to work on it but hopefully am this weekend so if you could tell me some main points to look for I would really appreciate it. I'm leaning towards fuel pump/ pressure problems, the tune, or the coil on plug being wired up wrong, thanks

you are right about the wastegate it shouldnt matter or affect the starting of the car that much. When i was troubleshooting my car i had no noticable affects from taking off the WG and trying to start.

1.What tuning setup are you using?

2. The pump will not prime when you stick the key in the ignition with a stock ECU. Link has an option you can select to do so, AEM does it also.

3. Why are you using a COP setup? they arent really proven to be performance enhancing. Especially if you wired it directly into the stock wiring. Our stock transistor packs are not designed to opearate correctly with a COP. This is noticed in higher boost around 20+ psi which i am sure you will be doing.

4. What CAS are you using. I have "heard" never witnessed people having issues with CAS sensor with COP setups if you have the BLACK TOP. Since it is optical the EMF from aftermarket ignition systems have interfered with the sensor.

To be fair, this is all good speculation and ideas, but you should have someone who is more familiar with DSM's take a look at it. In person a lot more things will be apparent. No offense to your friend or any of the people throwing out ideas on what it could be, but were pretty much taking pot shots at a problem we cannot fully investigate through you. Take a look at the MFI relay also, they tend to go bad and are a serious pain in the ass.

im using dsmlink. I heard good things about the cop setup so i went for it... are you sying i should get something like msd ignition for these? and i put the wastegate on and still nothing just popping. i feel that it is getting way to much fuel but the tune hasnt changed and it started before. but i did disconnect the battery but v3 should have its own power. maybe the shop didnt hook it up. how can i tell

if the MFI relay was bad you wouldnt be able to start the car at all..... and yes they are a pain. i just had to check mine and replace it. You have to give us more info or take it to a shops tuner. There are a ton of really knowledgeable people on this site but we can only help with what info we are given. Like i said before get rid of the COP setup, they are good for cleaning up the engine bay that is about it. If you have the stock system still hook that back up and see where that gets you. good luck and give us so more info.

did you get the car figured out? We can take care of it for you. pm me or call if you need help, one of my guys works down real close to kent island.

I had the same problem with my gst change the spark plugs and wires, pull spark plugs check them if there really black and smell like raw gas your ###### dumping to much fuel in cylinders especially if your running bigger injectors with no tune. Also could be a electrical issue checks these things out.
