first off, After reading everything I could On the Upgrade paths for basic HP upgrades (I'm looking into Stage 1) I Was wondering did whoever wrote those leave out tuning software and engine management stuff in this stage because it is not needed or is it just assumed that you will need to buy the stuff. this is where I am a bit unsure of myself, the tuning part of it all, (if anyone wants to shed some light on the tuning part or has any good readings on it let me know) here is my part list so far.
Step 1. Dejon Intake pipe with K and N air filter
Step 2. Manual boost gauge -got it
Step 3. 1g Bov
Step 4. Manual boost controller
Step 5.
Step 6.
Step 7.
Step 8. 1g exhaust manifold?
Step 9. 1g exhaust housing?
Step 10.
Step 11. Dejon short rout FMIC with 1g flange
Step 12. Evo III 16 G turbo + install kit

Please feel free to fill in the blanks with sugestions and comments. thanks!
(also as of now my car is running 14 lbs of boost stock)

Looks like you are on the right track but i would rather use an FP intake better flow! and get an fp exhaust mani or the evo III they have better flow than the 1g , I would also go with a VRSF fmic they are cheap and they are having a black friday sale!!!!:thumb: Get a fuel pump a wally 255 and re wire kit. you would be ok with a S-afc for tuning

Sounds good I will look into those. However I am not sure what a S-afc is, I am not even sure what I need to tune or how.

S-afc= Super air Fuel controller made by apexi my advice to you is get your self an eprom ECU /Or get you ecu converted to eprom and get a keydiver chip from dsmchips.com , buy the SAFC and go to your local tuner to get her tuned and you will be good to go with your 16g set up

If you have money go get link. I wouldnt waste 200 on a safc when you can get link for another 200 and never have to worry about tuning again no matter your set up. Even a stock car can benefit from a good tune.

Step 1.ebay intake pipe or get one from Classifieds
Step 2. Manual boost gauge -got it
Step 3. 1g Bov
Step 4. Manual boost controller
Step 5. go with a ebay downpipe and catback cheap and work great
Step 6.ebay
Step 7.ebay
Step 8. stick with your 2g manifold and port it if you can if not fp manifold
Step 9. stick with stock
Step 10.evo 8 or 9 pump cheap find in classifieds
Step 11. pr fmic or vrsp fmic
Step 12. Evo III 16 G turbo + install kit
and can forget something to tune with either dsmlink or reflash

He can't get a reflash because his ECU is a 97.

You don't need to worry about any ecu tuning with basic bolt on mods, like you would with an evo, until you upgrade your turbo and injectors. In my opinion don't go with an eBay exhaust system unless you are prepared to modify it to fit right, because even amongst the same systems, some are good, some are bad, it's really a roll of the dice with them. The downpipes are ok though, usually. Stick with the dejon tool intake pipe w/K&N, thats a good one.

The 98/99 black plastic ECU is the flashable one. Not the 97 ECU.
Tuning solution should be one of the first mods done. More notably a logger+tuning (ECMLink), however most people do t want to spend that kind of money right away.

From what I've read, most people are happy with their full eBay exhaust systems.

OP, before you buy anything consider what you want do achieve with your car now and the. Picture yourself another year or so down the road. Plan for the later and buy accordingly. My last mod that I did was a hard intake pipe due to not wanting to buy multiples as a lot of people do.

Research parts before you make a decision and figure out the best one for your goals. The cheap route may not always be the best and most brand names are just names, nothing else. Just food for thought.

Yeah...and I said he can't flash his ECU because it's a 97... I've seen eBay exhaust systems that contact the car in multiple places from the downpipe to the muffler so bad that it's impossible to even use all the exhaust hangers, but I've also seen ones of the same eBay brand fit nearly perfect, they are hit and miss. He can get ECMlink if he wants right away, but until he raises the boost significantly, or changes turbo and messes with the fuel system, I would hardly say it's necessary.

When was your timing belt changed last? Do you have any rust? Step 0 - Maintenance.

What is a manual boost gauge?

I would do this:

Boost gauge that reads lbs/vacuum,
DsmLink v3 & eprom ecu & a laptop to log
AEM or LC-1 or NGK wideband
arp studs
cosmetic head gasket & all other maintenance.
1000cc injectors
255 walbro with rewire kit
1g bov
Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator
FMIC
3" full exhaust. Who cares what brand, as long as Muffler sounds good.

That right there will do you wonders. Just pick your choice of turbo. I'm only missing the important pieces to my puzzle :ohdamn:.

Maintenance. Maintenance. Maintenance. Have the right supporting mods. Tune. Save time. Save money. Buy big. Buy once. Read Read Read. Searching is your friend.

"choo choo"

No Short Cuts do it right do it once :O
Step 0: Do timing, clean the engine bay, fluid flushes, check drivetrain which alot of people forget, check knock censor, o2 sensors and everything your car would need then START MODIFYING :)

Step 1. Dejon Intake with recirculation port on it or go with cheap ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-9...Q5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_5229wt_1166

Step 2. Autometer makes a nice Boost gauge+Aem uego wideband air fuel ratio gauge
Step 3. 1g bov crushed is nice
Step 4. Manual boost controller
Step 5.ebay exausts are great downpipe(Megan Racing makes a good one) and catback cheap and work great
Step 6.Injectors, walbro 255
Step 7.Safc, or get computer flashed if possible
Step 8.Forced Performance makes a good manifold :) Punishment Racing your parts source for the Mitsubishi Evo & Eclipse, Eagle Talon and Laser
Step 9. Keep your stock housing
Step 10.A Nicer Bov other than the 1g. Maybe something sequential
Step 11.Punishment Racing Fmic, cheap and great read up on them
Step 12. 16g evoIII is a popular cheap turbo to upgrade to

I misread my phone then with the ECU.

To be honest, a logger should be one of the first things after all maintenance. and that is exactly what ECMLink is. What better way to start modding than to be able to know what your car as doing right off the bat for every single mod you throw at it. Anything over the 15psi on the stock turbo would require a logger and same goes for using a 16g on stock fuel at wastegate pressure due to IDC% being high, knocking, and you can get timing advance out of the box. There are many more features that are beneficial to Link besides changing your fuel. I'm not going to get into a debate over a proven device that more than likely 95% of the knowledge out there would agree with doing it as a first step.

If I were to start over again, it would be my first choice for a mod and even more so now that everyone is able to use ECMLink without being dependent on finding an EPROM ECU first.

Oh and for the wideband, go with an Innovate product. It has a faster response time than the AEM unit and is still at the same price range. The new Innovate wideband is now even faster than the LC-1 unit and looks amazing. Also with Link, you'll be able to toss out both of your o2 sensors, mount the wideband in the front o2 location and use narrow band simulation.
(People, please don't go and say "it has to be 36in away" because that is not true at all. If you want more info on that just search on it.)

timing belt done at 81K according to the records the guy had and the Sticker on the belt shield (from an automotive shop) so thats ok. I check oils and replace with mobile 1 regularly, no Rust that i can see anywhere. Pretty clean if ya ask me!

thanks for everyones input It really will help when i figure out everything. the only things I am wondering about are the Fuel system, what i would need (if anything besides a new pump) to get the evo III 16g to work at peak performance, and the tuning part, I am not familiar with dsm link or any of that stuff so I will have to research those. as the top states, in my long term goals I am looking to achieve up to 300 HP

Ok, great.

I never said he could reflash his 96 ecu. I just put out there to tune with dsmlink or reflash ecu which he's gonna have to find a 95 eprom or reflashable ecu

Well yeah ok, but you have to tell him that though.

You no longer need to find an EPROM ECU use link. ECMTuning can convert 2g ECUs now along with the 1g ECU.
