Blew either the rings or the head cruising at 100, after a pull to 130 (would have been more but I ran out of space). To top it off, when I pulled off onto the shoulder of the highway ... I picked up something in one of my tires. A half of a pair of large scissors.

I'll be finding out in the next few days what actually went.

I just finished building my 6 bolt for my 98 GSX. Everything was golden and had the T72 installed. Long story short...The vac line from the wastegate to the mbc came off during a freeway pull. Bye bye head gasket.

bought it, 5 days later the timing jumped & bent my valves & ####ed my pistons...been sitting ever since. i ended up parting it out & buying a 96 gst to piece back together a month later. gotta love dsm's.... :(

So im driving down 280 on sunday and all of a sudden i smell smoke... then the car catches fire.. this all happened so quick i still hadent pulled over... by the time i got to the shoulder it was too dangerous to even try to pop the hood and save it.

Anyone else had a DSM spontaneously combust?? i am puzzled. mods were 16g 255 fuel pump 750cc injectors adjustable fuel pressure regulator ecmlink.. professionally tuned by a very reputable shop.

for those of you interested i have some goodies for sale on CL search "2g GSX parts" and "2g GSX parts cont"

After owning a 3kgt vr4, then an STi, My 98 GS just wasnt cutting it for me anymore. I found a 97 GSX at a local lot that was pretty clean. Still on the stock motor, had a K&N filter, 3" RS*R catback, and a 14b turbo. I didnt know an absolute ton about DSMs at the time so I polished up the GS and had it sold in 3 days to some 16 year old for $5500 cash. Took a loan for the remaining $1k and talked them into throwing in a 1 year/100,000 mile extended warranty. Dont ever pay for these.

The car had a really notchy 2nd gear but the trans had just been rebuilt about 6k miles ago and was still under warranty. Or so I thought... Turns out the warranty was non-transferable and after looking at the reciepts from the trans shop, they had filled it with 15w40 oil claiming it saves the bearings in them. After about a month and a half of owning it, 2nd gear was gone and 1st was starting to have problems.

I figured I could deal with not having a 2nd gear for a while and just save the money for a trans rebuild. I knew absolutely nothing about transmissions at the time so I was just gonna fork out $1500 for a rebuild through a different local shop. That was the whole reason I got rid of my mid 11 second 3kgt. A shift fork busted in that one and it caused me to trade it in on the STi. Back to the story though... All was fine and dandy while I was driving it to work daily to bathe in scalding hot oil at my local jiffy lube.

One winter morning after about 3 months of owning it, I pulled out of my apartment complex and the car just died. I was only running it at about 2k rpms so I figured that some sensor just came unplugged. After looking under the hood and finding no obvious problems, I tried to start her back up. The worst possible sound came from my bay when I cranked it over. It was the sound of ZERO compression on all cylinders. F*** MY LIFE! Not only did my car just blow up, now Im late for work at a job where my boss is a complete douche to his hardest working employee.

After getting a ride to work, everything turned out better than expected. The day went on as usual minus a clean 2Gb GSX sitting in the parking lot. When I got home, I started tearing things out. No damage to the spark plugs and the cams were both still lined up. Once I pulled the lower timing covers, thats where my day really went to shit. Whatever drooling, window licking retard did the timing belt on the car screwed that job up beyond belief. Have you ever seen a balance belt tensioner pulley that looked like it was beaten with a hammer like a hyperactive red headed step child at k mart? Thats about the only description for what I was looking at. The outer lip appeared to have been ground off and smashed up, causing the belt to jump off the pulley and grenade my timing belt.

Having absolutely no money at the time and no car to get to work in pulled a goddamned hiroshima on my financial and social life. I wound up getting a job at a phone sales floor with my roommate but the GSX sat for a little over a year before I finally got her back together. When I had time off, one of my friends directed me to a girl with a 90 GSX that she thought had a blown motor. She had bought some random half assed motor without my consent and wanted me to help her put it in. After testing the motor that it originally had, I found that it had absolutely perfect compression across the board and was extremely well taken care of minus a failed fuel pump and failed injectors. Also I found that the shift cables had came off the trans somehow and that was the reason for letting it sit in a field for 4 years.

She decided to just go ahead with the entire swap, so I immediately dove in head first without saying a word. Four hours later, The engine and trans was sitting on the ground in front of the car. I should also mention that she wasnt there for any of this and I didnt let her know I would get to work on it. I think I mainly did it because I just wanted something to do. I had offered to buy the motor from her after the swap for some ridiculously high price that she named so I think that was another reason for doing it. 2 days went by before she knew anything had happened with the car or had even looked at it. By the time she got a chance to check it out, the new motor was already in the car with new gaskets, seals, and timing components that she had purchased for it.

She had got there just in time for the first start up and was so happy, she just gave me the old motor for free. The engine that I received had 140k on it but was still in perfect shape internally. I replaced every gasket and seal on it but the head gasket and ran it hard until its death at 185k miles from a failed timing belt. After that, it recieved a new head, 2g pistons, an evo3 16g, and a few other goodies and is running strong with 4000 miles on it currently. God I love these cars.

I drove 30 miles to get the car, and after getting it registered and in my name, got three miles before the tie rod end snapped on the driver side. No big deal, it was right in front of a Monroe, so I just used some finess, and alot of steel wire, and limped it over to their shop. That night, it was stolen from their parking lot. I got to drive it three miles.

So This was with my first DSM a 95 gs. Well a friend and I went to a concert in Cleveland. On the way there my car jerked. I decided to keep driving to see if it would do it again and it didn't. So after the concert on the way home its like 2am and were both dead tired the car decided to jerk and shut of going down the highway. We get out and lift the hood. I look at the positive connection to the battery and it looked loose so i tap it and the car starts up. We had to do this about 20 times on the way home from Cleveland. And to make it worse we got lost :ohdamn:
So yeah, but we got home. And the next day fixed the wiring problem. And plenty of other problems came after. But luckily I sold it and got a gsx. Gotta love them DSMs. :thumb:

After 30 minutes of driving the car, I hit a deer. Going 70-75. Took out windshield and hood, which bent so bad it broke the cam gear.
Worst luck of all is that its not even insured or registered yet.
fml.

1. Going on a first date with this girl to a haunted house that was fourty minutes away. My Dsm started blinking its left turn signal non stop and real quick no matter where the stalk was inside my car. The loud obnoxious noise inside the long ride was embarrassing. I never went out with her againROFL

2. Going 120 plus and my car shut off. Not sure why. That was scary

The night I bought my gs, the top radiator hose exploded, and if that wasn't bad enough I was in front of an evo. :banghead:God, I felt dumb.

I had just installed the translab shift kit went for a drive. I hit 2nd in full boost spun all 4 and spiked 30 psi for the motha fu#$ing win of a chunk of my piston missing in cylinder #1........ FML

The worst thing that happened to me is that I fell in love with with my car.

trans, injectors, spark plugs, wires, brakes, tires were all shit... i had to tow it home

Went to take off in my 96tsi and broke the input shaft housing and all of the bolts holding the bellhousing and gear box together /:
thank god for craigslist i found a new gearbox for 150

Second was in front of my house i snaped te balance shaft belt thus throwing out the crank position sensor and shutting down the motor for me to fear the worst.

couple months after I bought it I realized that the fuel pump was going out so I parked my car in the garage and I opened that cover and I BROKE THE DAMN SENDING UNIT!!! so it sat there for 3 months, now I parked it to get rid of all of the damn rust on my car! oh well, its not the worst story on this thred :)

After buying my first one (99' GS) I got bit by that damn little Japanese DSM bug. Little f*@#$r. Now I bought my 9th one a couple month's ago. (93 GSX)

I was on the highway at night just got in the left lane to pass a rig and there was an entire PALLET sitting right in the middle of the road. I drove over top of a 4 inch high skid doing 75 mph. and all i heard was wood flying everywhere. The car felt like i went airborne a little. As far as i know no damage. But it was pretty scary hiting a pallet doin 75 when youre between a rig and a concrete divider.

Hit the curb during the test drive, before even buying the car:D. Car had a low body kit. Front bumper was folded. Fortunately FMIC was ok. Owner of the car was like WTF, and i . The problem was that car was dieing at idle. It died when i was driving it, power steering and brakes went of I was not able to stop and turn it properly and crashed it. So I ended up buying it. Then i got it running. About after a month, when i was just driving aimlessly at night my brake pedal stopped responding. I had no brakes. I stopped it with a handbrake and slowly drove home. Next day found that front brake hose failed. Ordered SS hoses and still waiting. I also ordered DSMlink which already arrived, but i cant log my cruise with no brakes:cry:

Just saved up for an AUTO AWD 1992 talon that I found on CL. I got there and it wasn't in the condition that the seller was describing to me over the phone. Long story short on that situation I would not of even paid $400 for it because the body was junk and the engine was burning so much coolant that I could no longer see the gauges in front of me from it running for just 10 seconds. Literally.

I was upset and on a 4 hour trip back home. I spotted an unplated talon parked next to a garage of a really nice house. Eddie told me to stop in and ask the owner if he was selling it. I sopped in the middle of the road. Almost got hit by 2 cars coming down the road. I put it in reverse and backed up in the wrong direction of the street. (I WAS UPSET, EXITED, AND CRYING ON THE INSIDE).

After meeting the owner of the car I found out that he was wanting to take the 4-bolt out of it and put it in his *MINT* 1990 GSX. After a little bit of talking he showed us his 1990 and his MONSTER GARAGE. 3 stories with an elevator to lift snowmobiles and jet skies and everything to the upper 2 floors.

I offered him $1200 for it running or not. He said he doubts that it will even turn over because it has been sitting in that same spot from 2003 till 2010. I said I have faith and wanna give it a try anyway. I put the new battery I brought with me in it and on the second compression stroke she fired right up. He almost crapped his pants with the look on his face in surprise LOL.

We cut a piece of 1 1/4 PVC pipe and put it in place of the BOV hard pipe, put some air in the tires and got on the road. The shifter was seized on the side to side play so shifting was a PITA on the 4 hour journey home. After stopping at a gas station and filling her up 3/4 of a tank full of 110 sunoco gas 10 miles down the road there were no street lights at all. I noticed some flashing of brights lights that were lighting up the drives side of the road. My tailing car started honking the horn to pull over. I then seen nothing but a big shower of sparks flying everywhere so I pulled over in a hurry.

As soon as I step out of my new talon to look at a glowing red aluminum rim on the drivers front a cop pulled off the highway. The owner didn't put a date, price, or anything on the title. It was on a piece of paper with the vin as a bill of sales. The title wasn't in his name yet I had to do a jump title transfer on it LOL. LUCKY THAT THE COP WAS BEST FRIENDS OF THE GUY I BOUGHT IT FROM. The cop offered a free towing back to my house on flat bed I said I wanna get her home even if it requires me to push it there LOL. The cop did hang out for a bit to lend the spot light of his cruiser so I could see in he dark to fix the problem.

Break caliper was hung up extremely bad. I broke 2 wheel studs removing the tire after the car sat there for about 40 min. I bashed the caliper with a hammer a bit to free the rotor from its grip. The cop gave me his denim belt to cut a section out of it to wrap around the brake line to prevent abrasions from the vise grips I clamped it with to cut off the fluid transfer to that caliper. I tethered the vise grips to the car with some steel wire that was on the side of the road and I was on my way back home again.

7 YEARS OF SITTING, AND OVER 3K MILES LATER SHES STILL RUNNING. I flushed the coolant, and oil, changed the fluid in the transmission, rear diff and, transfer case. Been to MOD in Bay City, hauled over 800lb's of part to DSM Graveyard in Kalamazoo (4.5 hours away), drove from town to town, taking my neice to daycare every day for 2 weeks, ECT.... and no problems and no signs of her ever wanting to die.

*Current status*
Sitting in backyard not running because I was screwed over on a swap to make my 5-speed AWD an AUTO AWD. Wrong starter pate, hacked up harness. I have been doing wiring like crazy on the car, cut the starter plate to get it to fit. I have videos of the current running order of the car and there not pretty at all. I'm ashamed to post a HELP post on tuners because of the problems my talon is having. I don't wanna get trolled for going to an AUTO. The sound that my 94 talon makes would make a DSM'r cringe in pain.

i was on my home with my new 98 gst and i had to move to another lane real fast and i didn't relize that all four tires where bald and the gst decided it wanted to come around one me i manged to steer out of it missing a car and the curb by inches. Long story short i got the car back home and started looking it over pretty well and lets just say i just put new front cv axles in it and inner and outter tie rods and new struts all around cause the ones that where one there where blowin because they had lowered it with nu speed springs on stock struts. also on top of all that i noticed that the timing belt was super loose so i did a timing belt job too. My dsm has been hell so far but now that all thats done im ready to enjoy my new daily driver.
