hello all, i have done quite a bit of searching and i can't seem to find the answer to my question. i'm wondering what my hp level would be if i turn my boost up from 5 psi (stock level) to about 13-16 psi. it's a 1992 laser rs and i have all the maintenance up to date. i also installed a mechanical boost gauge because i here the stock ones are garbage.

another thing, is it normal for me to be boosting about 5psi on stock setup? i read it was 7-12.. 5 just seems a little low, also my vac is reading around 24psi at idle.

Thanks in advance, Dan

Well every cars horsepower number is different so there is no way of tell you that unless you go put it on a dyno. My car on just wastegate runs 10psi. Are you still using the bcs?

yea the only way you can tell is to put it on a dyno and BCS= boos controller system....

do a boost leak check, it could be a boost leak, but also at the same time, it maybe that in your area, altitude and all that effect the vacuum.

It would bring the stock power output from "pathetic" to "acceptable".

Do a boost leak test and fix the leaks because 5psi is not normal.. Test another gauge also to see if your current gauge is bad.. What does your stocker gauge read?? As for the WHP question there is no way to tell different cars run different numbers on 16psi.. Your going to be pushing your stock fuel system on 16psi so make sure you dont go over.. My brother ran 270whp on a dynojet on a 14b with the right supporting mods and a tune.. He had a 2nd gen (14b swap).. Goodluck!!

Also check to see if your turbo has shaft play. With a leak that big I'm surprised that your even turns on. the 14b is a small turbo but 5psi is unheard of at wot. the factory spring is 9psi so you should at least be at that. Another thing for you to check is the waste gate to make sure that your spring is not stuck in the open position. that is the only other thing that would allow you to run such low boost.

and I think you meant 24hg at idle

You don't want to try to run 16 psi on the stock fuel system. I know I get fairly close to hitting fuel cut at 15. If you don't have a logger to check for not or at least a wideband to check your AFRs I would think about turning up the boost. Also realize your whole exhaust us a restriction until you mod it.

No one mentioned out that I saw but your vacuum should NOT be 20+ PSI, ever. Either that's InHg or your gauge is broken. Even if it is InHg, 20+ at idle is crazy high.

Most gauges are going to that system. It stands for inches per mercury. It is literally barometric pressure that it is measuring.

wait till you got more info and money or u will blow ## car up LOL

wait till you get more info and more money so u dont blow ## car up trying to hard

Take the hands you typed this with an slap yourself with them. Another noob who doesn't understand fuel-cut. How is 15psi getting you close to this 'fuel-cut'? Literally, there's zero logic to this. Is there a magic feeling or warning only your DSM gives to let you know of this impeding doom?

You're so wise. Great advice. You should be the head wiseman here on Tuners. Your knowledge overwhelms every inch of my puny brain.
