I found out our cars can be converted in RWD so which will be the better in your opinion and why of the three combining daily driving about 80% of the time and the rest on the track?

Heres a test for you.. Find 3 cars, all with aprox 250-300 hp one fwd one rwd and the last an awd dsm.. Test drive all three as well as try launching all three. Come back and tell us which one you prefer...

Me personally, Fwd is good daily, launching=sucky! Spin and torque steer all over the place! Rwd, good/fun daily, launching=pretty sweet (with good tires) otherwise youll just do a little one wheel wonder burnout. Unless of course you have Posi, then youll just get sideways off the line :hellyeah: AWD, good daily and launches are SIIIICK! traction from a dig! Not to mention better handling and control (even in snow)

awd traction? i spin all four. i can also tell you that i have yet to lose a launch to anyone. even car's rocking 4-link suspension, and big meat up under them.

AWD for sure. Four drive wheels are fantastic for putting power to the ground. High horsepower 2WD cars will always struggle with traction on the street.

Our rearends aren't made to hold 100% of the power outout, so I honestly wouldn't recommend doing that unless you under 400 whp - and even then, it's still a gamble with no real benefit.

I have a car for each platform and awd is my favorite. My talon is awd,my rwd is a g8 gxp and my ff is a 96 prelude. I love my traction with awd but I love sliding the gxp around. The only way I can do that with awd is in the rain.

Since it is mostly a street car I will have to say AWD also. If it was mostly a track car it would be RWD. SpawnedX is right about his RWD comment.

Not if it is set up correct. And an AWD will do this too if not set up correctly.

On the street it's AWD. AWD street cars can hit the strip with relative ease. RWD will forever push you to the fastest 1/4 mile times, it's physics. FWD I think is theoretically better than AWD on the strip if you spend the booku bucks to deal with the traction issues. However, unless you are building a dedicated drag car AWD is the way to go. Trust me, I just got sick and tired of battling traction with my GST, too much money to get it to do what I want.

Can't really go wrong with AWD in my opinion. Best of both worlds (especially if you have snow like we do up here). Personally I wouldn't go with a DSM if I wanted RWD as there's better platforms, unless you're dead set on the idea. And for me FWD is out of the question.

So many better options for rwd than a dsm. dsm's should stay fwd or awd unless you properly convert it to rwd.

I would start with a car that was meant to be RWD. RWD is definately fun for the handling characteristics when set up right but I'd rather have AWD any day of the week.

Tell that to Shep!!!

Tell that to Brent Rau. ;)

RWD is king at the 1/4. Look at the fastest cars in the world. They are all RWD. Why? Money is one reason. The only reason that matters though is that RWD can't be beat at the track. If they are properly set up they won't have traction issues so there goes the only argument people bring up for having AWD.

Of course like I said before this is for a track car, not street car.

With enough power 4 driving wheels become meaningless because the front two lift off the ground, no matter what. If they don't lift somehow the weight on the front wheels isn't enough to lay down some power to make 4WD worth the weight and power loss.

80 % daily driver; awd is defenitely the way to go. Plus great for all forms of racing when used properly.

RWD.

If you are a driver, launching isnt that terribly bad. And once you get moving, you dont have the drivetrain loss like AWD has.

So, you think it's wise advice to tell a DSMer to remove his from CV shafts on his 80% street-duty DSM to run it in RWD mode?

Re-read post #1. This isn't a RWD vs. AWD thread.
