Ive always been a fan of these, and now that i have a decent job ive been thinking of getting one and leaving the dsm alone for a while.
So what do you guys think, sc300 with a 2jzge or a sc400 with a 290 hp v8.

I would boost it definatley, but which is the better platform?

sc 300 (thats the 2 door correct?) there was one around here that was real clean for 3k i wanted to do the same 2jz it or turbo the current engine

SC400 or TT Supra, no SC300. SC400 with exhaust and wheels would be a sweet dd.

SC300 and SC400 are both 2 doors. Either one would make a very fun car. I have a friend that has a boosted sc400. And it is very fast and a blast to drive.

Why not sc300? i figured with a nice build it could push just as much power as a supra. And yea the 400 would be sick boosted. I just figured the 2jzge motor had a more solid platform.

Ive been looking at what it takes to do the swap and it gets ridiculous, i think the only thing that swaps over easy is the motor mounts and trans.

I too thought that the sc300 came with a NT 2jz. Just curious what it comes with then?

I personally am a 2jz fan so I'd probably pick that over the v8, but that's just me

The sc300 comes with a non turbo 2jzge, the only difference in the internals compared to the 2jzgte are the pistons i believe.

The sc400 comes with a v8

Only the sc300's came with an optional 5-speed transmission in case that's a major criteria for your decision. You can't go wrong with the sc300...

I have an IS300 with the N/A 2jzge, watch out for the VVT-i. These cars are picky about their upkeep, I am currently having trouble with a VVT-i malfunction that has been a bastard to try to track down. They have no power stock, and the auto's switch gears every 1.5 seconds. The Aristo swap is pretty popular, but it is more cost effective just to work with what you got untill it goes boom.

There we go :hellyeah:

Yea i was thinking sc300 with a supra 6 speed swap.
A tubo v8 would be badass but i dont know exactly whats needed for a trans swap with that.
Although auto wouldnt be so bad, no turbo lag between shifts..

Also this would be just a daily, so i woulnt get to crazy with it. Just Dumpt on some huge offset wheels, and a nice turbo.

I have a 93 SC300 w/ a 1JZGTE swap, w/ Factory 5 Spd, Supra Wheels, Supra Brakes and Megan Coilovers. It's a stock swap and a BLAST to drive. I'm making a custom twin kit for it towards the end of the years once my new fabricator makes it down.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Finally! someone with experience :D
How hard was it to do the swap? what all is needed?
Would it be easier just to build the 2jzge or just to swap in a 2jzgte?

I've actually built a few of them. I've done them with built 2JZGE, 2JZGTE and the 1JZGTE. It's not a "hard" swap to do. My buddy and I did this one in 2 days but we're well versed in the SC/Supra Chassis.

It really comes down to what kind of power you want to make and what kind of budget you have. Let me know what you have in mind for the car and I'll answer any questions you have and point you in the right direction.

Well what kinda power can the stock 2jzge handle?
Also is the 2jzgte a direct drop in with just some wiring and a new trans?

A

With a cometic head gasket (to lower compression), 800rwhp reliably (with a proper tune of course). Both the ge and gte internals are made of the same material they will both hold the same amount of power. the cranks are the same. The heads are a little different I.E. the exhaust and intake manifolds will not interchange.

The money you will spend just buying the gte would buy a single turbo kit for the ge possibly a good fuel pump and bigger injectors. A piggyback will run you a few hundred and you will be making alot more power than the gte. If you only want 400ish rwhp the gte will do that on stock injectors and turbos.

The aristo gte has ceramic turbos and they tend to explode, it's common to swap the usdm steel turbos and usdm 550cc injectors. So to go gte you are looking at 2000+ right off the bat that could be better spend on the ge you already have in the car.

Driftmotion has a 67mm turbo kit including manifold and downpipe for 1500, ebay manifold and a holset is 500ish, you have many options for the ge.

Either way I would avoid vvti.

Either way the stock sc300 5 speed (w58) is highly likely to fail, the mkiii turbo 5 speed (r154)will hold 800+hp if you change out the thrust washer (40 bucks) and can be picked up as low as 200 bucks and as high as 1000. The 6 speed trans will cost you 3000+ and you will need a low rear end gear or 1st will be useless.

This sucker has made over 700whp at 22psi on completely stock internals, and is daily driven, 100 or so drag strip passes as well. Pulled from a lexus sc300, 2mm headgasket, and a set of cams.
