My 99 GST needs a new engine, I have been looking and looking and I just found this in my area..

99 eclipse gst

The guy says it still runs and will sell the engine without the turbo for $500. I believe it is actually in the car still so I'm gonna try to go see it run.. What should I be looking for when I do look at it, and does it look to any of you mechanics out there like this may have engine damage from the accident? The kid says the gas got stuck and he ran into something.

Thanks!

From the looks of that damage, it should still run. I would be looking for any oil coming out the exhaust, check the dipstick to see if there are bubbles in it, which would indicate a blown headgasket. I would do a compression test on it also.

I would also check the timing belt/belts make sure the cam gears are dead on timing wise.....

Thanks guys, any other suggestions? It has 92k on the engine, he's selling it with the stock turbo for $600, or has said the engine itself for $500, would it be worth it to pick up the turbo to re-sell? I have a 16g already for my set up.

If its a T-25, I wouldn't bother.

I think compression test should be first. That way you have an idea right off the bat.
