i have a 92 talon tsi with forged internals, 190 fuel pump, 550 injectors, 2g maf, 3" turbo back with no cat. currently only runnin 11-12 psi and running rich of course... how much psi could i run safely on this set up, it is my DD. i have a safc but not installed and also have a logger that is installed. i was thinking around 16? im going to use the safc to tune it.

do you have wideband, its hard to say everyone has different opinons. Lots of threads on how much boost can i run, check out some of the threads on here.

ya but no one has the same mods as me they all basically have stock internals

You'll likely be limited by your fuel system; your 550's will top out before your 16G, assuming its big 16g or better.

You should be able to run 20 psi, give or take a few psi.

It's less about your internals and more about your ability to tune the engine properly (with a 16g)... meaning that you don't run it hard for long periods with min imal understanding or means to tune and monitor it. This is the most important component when making big changes to your setup. IMO

I would install a wideband and get that safc in there. That's the only way you'll know if the amount of boost you're running is a safe level. I wouldn't turn it up anymore until then unless you want to destroy your motor.

i dont have a wide band but my a/f is telln me im running rich and so is my logger

Your af blinky light, you need a wideband, no way around it keep your boost at stock until you do. Or risk blowing up your engine because you dont have the correct tuning tools. 200 bucks for a wideband is cheaper than a new or rebuilt engine, even the rebuild is not much fun. if you have to do it.

a/f reading from a logger, I take it..? Pay close attention to your knock count/sum. That will tell you a lot about the condition of your tune. If you can do a 3rd gear pull from 2.5k to 7k with out any knock (or less then 10 counts***). Turn up the boost, and try it again.

*** someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there about 7 counts of knock for every degree of timing (knock) retard.

i have a air fuel gauge and a logger and thanks guys for the help... you say from a roll in third gear and take the rps upo to 7k?

If you don't take the car to 7k very often, or dont feel conferrable with that (like me) take it up to 6k or 6.5k, but make sure you run it to what ever rpm you'll likely take it to when that neighborhood civic trys to cut you off pulling onto the freeway... if your likely to run it to red line when flooring it, you'll NEED to know how your increase in boost will affect your engine.

To be save, only increase your boost at 2 to 4 psi increments.

P.S. Your going to break things, I hope you know that. As soon as you start turning up the boost, you will break your car. The good news is that, your DSM is already old and it's likely to break itself no matter what you do, so.... have fun with it.

However, if you purchased this car as your daily driver, and don't have the heart to find other means of transportation when the time inevitably comes; and it will! ... save yourself the heart ache and leave the boost stock.... well, and drive it really nice, too. LOL

no need to be an ass...just asking a question

thank you iugrad92turbo for atleast being nice... and ya i plan on getting one what is a good brand?

There's a reason why the dsm community is so knowledgeable and willing to help each other... we have to be because our cars are as ways broken and we need the help from our fellow dsm'ers!!! It's no joke when you ask a fellow member here about their car and they tell you that it is broken more than it's running... LOL

Don't get me wrong, I love my Eclipse, but I have another car to get me to work (most of the time). I've learn to stop treating my dsm as if it was anything other than a toy. the sooner you realize this the better you will feel about fixing all the things that break.

Oh, and if I was trying to be an ass, I wouldn't be taking the time to give you my personal experience, I'd just leave this link as I will now. good luck.

alright well thanks for all the help...so after i get the wideband how much you think then? with out messing anything up! just trying to get an estimate

never mind found em... thank you for all your help! any ideas on after i install that thought?

HAHAHAH!!!! that stings but it's the truth. Bought my GSX last November, and since then, It's been running a total of....5 months. I'm just putting the finishing touches on my SECOND swap. haha

But yes... take it from me (as well as everyone else on here) It is crucial to purchase and properly install all supporting mods before trying to push your DSM to the next level (including all the scheduled maintenance).
The cheap way is doing it the right way

Good luck!

Everyone's car runs differently even if the mods are the same. I was able to run up to 21 psi on an evo 3 16g, 550's, walbro 255, tuning through an s-afc neo and had no issues. Your tune is going to be a big factor as well.
