Hi everyone im brand new to this and I've been researching the best ways to make my car faster. I know everyone says its not worth the trouble to swap a 420a for a 4G63 but my 98 Eclipse RS has a 1500 dollar body kit and 2k dollar paint job on it and a 1200 dollar stereo system, i also have a few other minor upgrades to its performance. So i dont just want to get rid of it for a GSX or GS-T like everyone pretty much suggests. I have about 10k to start building up its performance, Im willing to put in the time if i have help. I want to ask is it still not worth swapping the engine?

I'm going to save you a lot of trouble. First and foremost the search button would have found you 2,000 of these threads that all say the same thing.

However, this is not and will never be worth the trouble. Unless you have great fabrication and welding skills this will cost the same price as just buying the GST or GSX and swapping you stuff over. The engine mounts are completely different. If you were trying to do an AWD swap you would have even more things to consider changing. The fuel tank, the exhaust as well as some fabrication to hold the rear end up. Then you would need a complete disc conversion in the rear if you don't already have it.

The answer to this question, no matter the way it is presented, will always be the same. It's a waste of money and hardly ever done properly.

if you have 10g dude just buy a gsx for around 4k swap the stuff you want onto it and then sell your gs and get around 3k for it now you would have 8g to drop in a awd car that already has more power and a turbo :hellyeah:

If you are dead set on making the car you have faster, the only real thing you can do is turbocharge your current motor. I, just as everyone else would suggest if you really want performance is buy a GST or GSX. If you just want something that you can play with and can be your highway queen, just turbocharge your 420A... However, this car is pretty much useless as any type of race car...

Yes it can be done. But i think you would be better off rebuilding your engine and turboing you car if you are unwilling to part with the one you have. Or as others have said get a second car.

OMG this is dumb, just buy a gsx, you can swap the stereo and other crap into the gsx just not the paint. you got to pay the cost to be the boss broooo

alright but what if i want to eventually build a 10 second car. What kind of engine would i need to use? I was thinking about simply gutting the car but im unsure what kind of foundation i would need. or is it possible with the 4G63 in the GSX?

98 Eclipse RS has a 1500 dollar body kit and 2k dollar paint job on it and a 1200 dollar stereo system

Cheapest mod you can do to make it go faster is loose the 1200 stereo equipment. After that, you could probably afford to buy OEM bumpers and have them painted to match you car. Then set the body kit on fire. That will make your car faster than it is allready.

If you have 10k, why not sell your car and buy an evo?

Why not sell your god aweful ricer car and buy a GST or GSX and do some research, and get into the 10s? or even lower.

I was given my god awful ricer. And i am taking the advice given to me and selling it Im just having trouble finding GSX in my area. For now I just wanted to know if it can eventually be done with a 4g63 because like i said im new to this. I just wanted to know what the best engine to use was.

So whats my best option? buying an Evo? or a 3g63T?
And did u mean literally buy a Lancer or its engine?

Well, he meant 4g63T, not 3g63T. They are telling you to buy an Evo, not it's engine, as it wouldn't swap into your car. If you like the way your eclipse does as opposed to the Evo, or don't want to pay the outrageous prices to insure an Evo, then sell your N/A eclipse and buy a GSX.

You can find them, you just really have to look. Try to find one with lower miles and that hasn't been molested, then build it up on your own. You've definitely got the money to do it.. Or try to find one with a blown motor that needs replaced anyways since you could get it cheaper, and build a motor to drop in.
