i would like to know if anyone had wrapped their dash with something, what did you use and how did it turn out? i am not talking about those stupid fitted dash mats that you can get from your local car parts places, and i am not looking into doing a full "shag carpet" dashboard. what i am looking for is something that will lay down nice and even and look almost factory.

i want to change the color of the dash to black. i know the easy way to do it is to remove it (which it is at the moment) and spray it with a fabric/vinyl die, however i need to keep the money safe at the moment because that time of year is coming soon. but i was in Wal-mart the other day and i stooped in the fabric section looking for something other that the standard headliner material to re-do my headliner in. well i came across a roll of black flannel, nice and soft but smooth at the same, and i got to thinking...:hmm: what would my dash would look covered in something like that. the only two things that would have me concerned are how fast would it fade in the sun and weather or not i would be able to get it to wrap around the corners and edges without folding on me.

i honestly wouldn't do a fabric. if it gets even the tiniest bit wet you're looking at the possibility of mold and mildew and yucky smells. that's probably part of the reason everyone just sprays or dyes their dash.

+1^

I just saw Porsche factory on TV and they showed how they do their dashes in real leather. Real nice! :thumb:

i wouldn't do fabric either. It would be faded within a year (depending how much your car sits in the sun) and wouldn't lay nice and take the form of the dash. Not to mention it would be sliding around all the time and just be annoying.

Take a look at gixxerdrew's car, wrapped in leather

Does anyone know where they went to get their dash done? Would love to know if anyone has suggestions as to where most people go. Alot of small places offer it but idk if thats good quality or not.

Not to hijack the thread, but would anyone know about how much it would be to get a dash wrapped in leather?

Holy crap thats pricey. I think the whole interior is a bit much though. Just the dash and center console would be enough for me to get wood every time I got in my car. ROFL

That leather is sexy as hell for sure!

kahl23 got his whole interior (more than just the dash) done at Stitchcraft Interiors in Longbeach, California. He said the bill would be around $4,000 for the whole interior.

Time to start saving I guess...:D

Haha, I love threads like this. I generally don't like to talk costs outside of PMs, but I'm getting swamped, so let me answer some of the questions I saw:

Any decent upholstery shop can do our interiors. You might want to pick one that has done more modern cars before, because unlike hot rods, modern plastic dashes have a lot of compound curves that require some planning.

The dash is unfortunately the most expensive part of the interior (like I said, compound curves). The dash was something like $1,800.

Alcantara looks sick, but it's a pain in the ass and I wouldn't suggest it for anything other than a show car. It's impossible to clean if you get it dirty and unless you constantly brush the nap (the little hairs) in the same direction, it looks weird because if the nap goes one direction, it's lighter than in the other direction. The result is a panel that looks molted.

Thanks for the information..now I wont have to pm you haha.
