I have a motor out of a 1990 laser fwd that i'm putting in my 90 awd.... What will I need to change besides the flywheel?

Yep^^^ just got a starter plate from the stealership... Anything else? I mean it looks great so far but I was just asking in case there was anything I should look for or change before I get it all the way in

Front and rear engine roll stopper brackets, a.k.a front and rear engine mounting brackets that bolt to the block. The front is noticeably different, the rear may be less so. My general rule of thumb for these brackets in this situation is to use those that are original to the vehicle receiving the engine.

Idk I only took the engine out of the fwd laser and it's bolted in my talon as we speak and I didn't change anything but the flywheel and starter plate and it's goin good as far as I can see

It's a peace of mind sort of thing. A lot of guys have alignment issues with one mount or another when swapping in engines to vehicles with different drivetrains. CAPS shows they are different part numbers so it is something to look out for. Again, what I suggested was my rule of thumb. If it works without switching, that's great, and you should be well on your way. :thumb:

Check the seventh picture in this thread (AWD) and compare to the pic below (FWD):
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...283-tubular-front-crossmember-install-1g.html

You will see the two are different in overall shape at the very least.

I didn't have to change any motor mount brackets or nothing like that....it bolted in just fine

How would the t-case not line up if the engines bolted in...I just don't understand why the brackets are different... I mean I had zero problems bolting that engine in

Fwd and awd 5spd cars use the same front and rear mounts that bolt to the engine. The mount that bolts to the subframe and front crossmember with the rubber in them are different.

Personally, I never attempted using FWD brackets when swapping into my AWD chassis. Out of curiosity was it a pain to line up the drivetrain using the fwd brackets? Assuming you have the trans installed at the same time.

An FYI, taken from another forum:

"
Per CAPS, these are the part numbers I got for the R/H and L/H engine mount brackets for a 5 speed car.
FWD:
MD133346
MD136194

AWD:
MD133347
MD136195"

I only have the motor bolted in right now and I'm starting to hook stuff up...i don't have the t-case on yet though...every bolt went through the mount easy with no allignment issues

I guess I'll just put it together and if I have a problem I'll just support the engine and swap my motor mount brackets...they are still on my awd block which I'm glad I still have now LOL

It would only be an issue if it were out of an auto-car. When I installed the motor out of my GS, into my TSi AWD, I had to swap the front bracket off the motor due to the auto bracket being different.
