Had car at track last night and i know of two different runs where i was shooting fire out the exhaust shifting into second when double clutching

I have read the other forums about possibilities of why and also am aware that it is kind of normal.

Wondering what is the cause / fix to this?
Also wondering, will it tear something up?

A mod list would definitely be beneficial for us to help further but, it could be running rich, possible timing issue, or even just the exhaust on the car if no cat. My car never did it until I put my 3" turboback on and now it will do it when driving hard. Also if you have link with antilag installed it will do it as well.

I notice a lot of cars running on E85 doing this. I'm assuming due to high timing maybe?

The real question is, why were you "double clutching"?

x2 on double clutching we have synchro's for a reason LOL. Like everyone already said give us your mod list. Sounds like you could be running rich, my car shot a 4 foot flame shifting 3rd to 4th my friend was behind me and he called me tripping out haha.

Let us know and don't double clutch, we don't have trucks.

car for some reason didnt want to go in second gear that night.

as for mods

7bolt motor
as forged internals etc
ported manifold
full 3'' turbo catback exhaust
turbo has td05 housing w/ 20g wheel
greddy FMIC
upgraded fuel pump
660 fuel injectors
apexii safcii running at 6400-32%-HI

^^ It's when you push the clutch once and feel the pedal go soft and drop to the floor. The second clutch into your butt hole when you realize how much work and money it's going to cost you to fix it. :p

whats double clutching:confused:

Double clutching is a driving technique primarily used for vehicles with an unsyncronized manual transmission (NOT DSMs). Basically: you push in the clutch, let of the gas, shift in to neutral, release the clutch, push it again, and shift into gear.

Of course this differs from the "if you can't find it, grind it" theory.

Hope this helps!

Well at least he's double clutching and not granny shifting.

But the flames are probably just unburnt raw fuel. Did you remove or gut your catalytic converter too?

actually thinking about it, cat was gutted. Would that have anything to do with it?

Before one of yous is barbecue.

Op. your fine, its just unburnt fuel

Alright well thank you, just wanted to make sure i wasnt tearing it up.

do you have your bov vented??? if so that can be causing the unnecessarily rich condition between shifts and hence causing your flames. Mine did that when i first removed the cat and for god knows what reason i was running a vented bov at the time. If you are venting that is your issue along with the cat being gutted.

Yes making fun of a movie gives DSMers a bad rep....

To OP don't worry about it if your tune is spot on, but Im guessing your have never tuned your car yet.

not the movie here though.

i can see this happening after he just ran at the track.

OP - "man dude, you were shooting flames out of your exhaust"

HIM - "yeah man, i was double clutching and over boosting":ohdamn:
