so i am having some problems with my galant. i just installed a dohc head on a 2.4, did the basic 1g in 2g swap, im using a 98 2g flashable ecu, 90 cas, small 16g turbo 8 psi, aem wideband, so my problem is the car seems to crank a while before starting, then drives fine but as soon as i hit boost the a/f ratios drop to 10.00 and my timing goes to 1-5 degrees. what would cause this give me everything you guys can think of. it keeps throwing a code for a map sensor and i dont have one so im not thinking the map is the issue.

Do you know if the ECU is stock or has the info on it modified or reflashed to someone elses tune? It could be in a limp mode because of the engine code.

the 98 flashable ecu is checking for the mdp (map sensor) to verify egr function, why that would giv you low power i dont know. but the 1g intake manifold does not have this map sensor while a 2g has the map on the top of the manifold, best bet would be to check the perifery bits and click that cel off to see if that helps your situation.

I think your problem is your grammar & that you do not have a map sensor. How can you use an updated ecu that needs certain sensors to work correctly.. yet you do not have those sensors?

Might want to verify that nothing was changed on the ecu. Every car part is sold for a reason.

sorry about the grammar i have a cast on my hand so it makes it hard to type. nothing has been changed on the ecu!!!! if the map sensors only reason is to monitor the egr i dont see how that would affect the timing in any way?

so i just went out and switched mafs because on my scantool i got a code for barometric pressure circuit malfunction. i switched to a hacked maf and the car does run better doesnt bog AS bad but still does the same?

do you guys think that if a faulty knock sensor could cause this? im not getting a code for a knock sensor but thats the only thing i can think of. could my ignition timing be way off? please help

Do you have a logger? if not you can pick up a cheap open port 1.3 cable and buy evoscan and you will have full logging capability and it might help to diagnose the problem, it might cost about 50 bucks in then end. If you plan on doing a full build/tune it might be better to get th open port 2.0. I have both and keep the 1.3 in the car at all times since the 2.0 cable is more expensive.

i was planning on getting a 2.0 cable but im layed off right now so im broke. I do have a scantool with live data but no logging capabilties. i also have a general ob2 to usb cable but i havent found a program it will work with yet...... Could my base ignition timing be off so far causing this issue? i have good timing advance cruising and slightly on the throttle its about 25 to 35 degrees but as soon as i give it gas. BAM! like 4 degrees. also sometimes at idle ill have about 10 degrees and some other times it will be around 20. three things i can think off. 1. knock sensor 2. base ignition timing 3. engine timing wrong. and i guess maybe just maybe the map sensor
