im going to hook up my Faze Oil Pressure gauge on my 97 GS and i need to buy an adapter for the oil filter, does anyone know which one to get? i looked at Avdance Auto and they have like 10 different ones, can anyone narrow it down for me?

Don't be lazy. Tee the new oil pressure sender off the stock oil pressure switch on the back of the block with brass fittings from a hardware store or some Earl's fittings from Summit (latter is the better choice, from personal experience).

If you do decide to use brass fittings from the local hardware store. I highly recommend using a hightemp liquid gasket on the threads and not teflon tape or teflon sealant as they begin to leak over time. Liquid gasket maker is the only thing I have found to completely eliminate the leaking. Just an FYI

Hmm, i just used an adapter and put it in place of my stock oil pressure sending unit. Maybe that's not right, but seems to be working for me. I just got a metric(whatever the oil filter housing is) to 1/8'' NPT fitting.

Edit: One of these...

Welcome!

You my friend own a GSX where the OPSU is already located in the oil filter housing. The 420a OPSU is located on the back of the block, therefore you have to buy an adapter tapped for a sending unit which lowers your oil filter from its stock location. This is why we recommended using th location of our stock OPSU, as you did, but that is the back of the block for us. comprende'?

Ah-hah! Reading>me :coy:

If not warmed up, it will just keep climbing til I peg the gauge out.

I try to let everything warm up before pushing the car.

While warmed up, I see about:

15-20psi @ idle
45-55psi @ cruise
55-65psi @ WOT

While cold, I see:

50-55psi @ idle
65-70psi @ cruise
100+psi @ WOT (not good)

Same here, but if I don't have time for it to warm up, it will climb close to 100 psi without me even pushing the car, just driving normal.

Just checked today and I actually get around 75-80 psi oil pressure when boosting WOT when completely warmed up.

So why is 100PSI and over bad? I'm looking to buy a autometer oil pressure gauge...the one i'm looking at reads up to 100 psi...Is that good enough for our cars or should i get one that reads higher?

That one should be perfect. You really have no need for one that reads higher, since 100+psi is not at all good for the motor, believe it's gasket/seal blowing territory if driven that way for awhile, not to mention bad lubrication but I could be wrong. I know that if it's that high your oil temps are extremely low, which won't lubricate very well and can lead to extensive damage if not watched. Most of the time you'll read around 60psi at cruise, and 20 at idle. A gauge that read higher is kind of pointless imo. The oil pressure gauge should come with all necessary fittings anyhow.

Dude you are the man...thanks!:thumb:

I know this post is old, but instead of making a totally new one I figured I'd ask here. I have 203k miles on my 97n/t and I'm seeing

warmed up:
30psi @ idle
55-60psi @ cruise
and 70-88psi @ WOT

Cold:
60psi @ idle
65-70psi @ cruise
85-94psi @ WOT

Is this normal or good to have about 10 more psi at idle than normal? I'm wanting to turbo it in about a week and just wondering. My compression is also 225-220-220-225. Do you guys think this engine would be healthy enough to turbo?! It seems to me that the engine doesn't seem as worn as I thought. On shut-off its takes about 2 minutes for it to completely lose oil pressure as well. Would this indicate fairly good bearing clearances? Any input is appreciated.

Thanks
