READ THE LAST POSTS ABOUT CLUTCH ISSUE

Alright so i bought my 1g a little over a week ago.

it had a few problems which i knew of and was fine and ready to deal with. minor things.

but i swear to god everytime i fix something theres something new ####ed up. Worst luck ever. It started with the clutch line havin a leak right at the elbow. pain in the asss part to find. when i finally find it, replaced it, havent bled it yet, i remembered about the oil leak it had at the filter(the seal was messed up and it was leaking drops) so i replace that. get in my car to start her up to see if its still leaking. and none of the lights even turned on. im like WTF. get out, pop the hood, check out my battery. i see this:

yea WTF. changing the old battery out and droppin in the new one i noticed that old one was droppin hella acid. and i think it must have eaten away that cable. its ridiculous. probably an easy fix but how do i do that? heard i can strip her up and cut the corrosed part and tried to reconnect it?

you can do that IF you have enough cable to do that. but then there's also a good chance that it's corroded further down too. auto parts stores sell replacement battery cables with ends already on them. you just have to figure out how long yours is and get a new one.

well the rest reems fine. its really just the tip. and its not alll broken off theresstill a feww hairs hanging on haha. But i followed that line down under the battery and it connects to like 4 other cables creating a massive cable....

Did you even take the car to get a "buyers inspection" done? Seems like you didn't look over it well enough if you keep finding problems.

Get a new battery and new battery cables. You'll need at least a pen torch to put the new cable onto the existing line.

haha i know but it woulda been nice to be told all this shit was messed up. like the roaches. god. well whatever ima go see if i can get new cables for it cause i bought the battery like 3 days ago and it worked perfectly, the next morning it was dead. i dont get it. if the cables are still connected even by a few hairs shouldnt there still be current flowin through? or is it just not enough?

well if you've got enough play in the cable then you can probably get away with cutting the end off and stripping it down

i do i have more than enough to strip it but i dont have any supplies to fuze that all together again?

if you can strip it down, just go get a new terminal end. one of the cheap-o lead ones. i bought the coated ones before and they suck. but if there's only a few wires hangin on for dear life, it aint gonna do squat. an improper connection is like one of the fastest ways to kill a battery. so take the battery to where you got it from, get it charged up good (if you have your own charger skip this step) get you some hefty side cutters and a new terminal and get to work! it's not that hard. if i know how to do nothing else, i can change out some battery terminals... and light bulbs, i'm really good at light bulbs :p

well the terminal itself is in good position. it just has two wires connected to it and one of them is the ripped one

i'm sayin. it's just easier to shove battery wires in a new terminal than trying to get them back in the type of terminal you have. the terminal i'm talking about is the kind that has the little plate deal the bolts down on top of the wires. SUPER easy.

I see beyond pissed im thinking some motor build failure or something else of the same caliber ... no some old worn out battery cable, just replace it .

You can get some gauged wire at home depot and the lug terminals there.

yea i got around to doin that last night. shaved off the plastic and the acid with a knife and stuck some copper seal at the top. and the reason why im pissed is not cause of the "little battery problem" its just the whole thing in itself. it went from clutch problem, to oil leaks, to battery cables, ac is hot now, radio disconnects and shuts off like every ten seconds.

These cars are old enough to vote man, If you wanted easy and reliable you should have bought a toyota.... very slow..... but reliable :)

XD yea man. im fine now. i fixed it. shits running. im happy.

plus i can eat toyotas all day long. till i run out of gas. well. unless i push my car, then i could probably still beat a toyota;)

Some cars are well maintained some aren't. Most of the 1g cars I look at always have some leak of some sort or heavily modified.LOL

well seems like i have a new problem with the battery.

i fixed the cables. worked fine and everything. but now every three days my cars dead.

i feel like i keep leaving a door open but all the lights are shutoff when i close the car. its draining itself and i have no idea where or why its doing that. anyone have any idea what it could be?

last time it was my trunk. its broken so it stayed open and i didnt even notice. oh and ps, the lights in the car turn on when i open my passenger side door, but not when i open the drive side? it makes no sense LOL

anyways help please!!

BYTHEWAY theres a little clicker in my car and i have no idea what it does. its definately aftermarket and im thinking that its that clicker thats draining my battery.

looks like that. i have ansolutely no idea what it does and it runs out the left side of my dash.

its been in the "on" position since i found the thing dangling around. i wonder if putting it in the off position will stop draining my battery.

but yea anyone know what that is? its just a regular clicker with the on and off position. thats it. makes a little clicking noise in my engine when i click it. well when the batteries not drained LOL

Hey now! I would have to say otherwise. I haven't had a reliable toyota for 4 years now. And i would definatly not go as far as very slow, maybe a little quick LOL.

To the OP sounds like my car just bought it 2 weeks ago. First night the alternator fusible link blew going home from work. So i pulled the alt to get it tested instead and what a pain. Then a week later I thot the starter went out, so spent 100 on a new one. Just to set the old on on the bench with the main power cable still attached. I knew there was a few things here and there wrong but no seller is going to tell you everything that is wrong. Keep up the work by the time your done with all the little things you will be braking big things. Just how it works, kinda a bummer huh?

the car is 2 decades old and neglected.

at this point these cars are looking for restoration. not just maintenance.

I would start by going over the car front to back and fixing/replacing whatever is needed. All the hoses, belts etc im sure are dry rotted. That goes for the timing belt as well.

I bought a 1g about a month ago and still havent driven it, as its yet to pass my personal inspection.

It aint ready till its ready :)

i have to wonder if that is some rigged up "push-button" starter. maybe that's why it's been in the "on" position and the clicking you hear is the starter? i have no clue. start tracing wires. and when you say the battery is dead every 3 days... is this with you actively driving it everyday? because if you leave them sit, then they actually lose power themselves. they're not really supposed to be completely dead in 3 dys, mind you, but it has happened. the hubby's gst was doing that only it was EVERY DAY i would have to jump it. horrible. replaced the alternator... and it ended up just being a bad (brand new) battery. it was dropping volts left and right. was crazy. hope something i said has helped LOL. good luck!

Do your fans keep running when you shut it off? There's so many possibility's that could be, just try to trace where the wires are running.

so i tried following that wire that i have no idea where it went haha it like blends it too well. i called the ex owner. said he had fans in front of his intercooler. said that the stock sidemounts dont get enough air so he put a fan up to it? ROFL. idk. i think someone just said that. well the fan isnt there anymore. and the thing still gets power so all i have to do is shut it off. and cut that out at some point. LOL

NEW PROBLEM. radiator blew up apparently...LOL yea the douchebag didnt tell me. so i gotta get a new one. and now moving back to old news the clutch is still not working. changed the lines and the slave seems to be doing its job but apparently it aint holdin the pressure. it slowly releases the pressure and the clutch ends up on the floor again. I wouldnt be surprised if that were not the issue either, so just thinking ahead; If the clutch line is good, the masters brand new, and the slave WAS NOT to be the issue....what could it be? or is the slave my only issue here do you think.

and anyone who is basically trying to call me a little bi*** for talking so lowly of the car when its so old and therefore i should be expecting issues, how about you try to open your mind a little and maybe you'll see why im so mad. its because he lied. he didnt tell me any of these things were wrong. i woulda still bought the car but left on the side more money to spend on it. quite frankly if you got nothing to say that will help me, then shut up:)

these cars are frustrating. as all hell. it happens to everyone that owns one. every once in awhile, just step back, take a deep breath, and let it go. otherwise all you will be doing is getting more frustrated and more frustrated, and nothing will get done right.

so about your clutch... i don't have a whole lot of experience tearing apart 5 speeds an' such... but from what i understand... there's only so many components to the clutch system. just go through them. it may be your clutch. it may be your slave cylinder. i know some cars even have a cute little switch under the clutch pedal, like the brakelight switch, but for your clutch.

and as for that wire... trace it back again... when you lose it, wiggle it to see if you can catch sight of it again. hell... pull on it see if it will come out. don't yank the holy shit out of it, just a gentle pulling.

hope your get your cars tantrums straightened out. good luck!
