I cannot find the info I'm looking for anywhere. I'm getting ready to upgrade my turbo from a scm5031 to an HX40 pro. I'm staying with the t3 housing, and am wondering what I will need to modify. I'm thinking I'll have to get slim line fans no matter what, and that I'll have to modify some things to get an oil feed line hooked up. If you have any experience doing this, or have any information on what kind of project I'm going to be taking on, let me know.

You're staying with the t3 shaped housing that the hx40 comes with? Are you going to run a twinscroll manifold? It will rather laggy with the 19cm^2 housing it typically comes with and an open t3 manifold. You have a ported 2g exhaust manifold. You can have much success with the bolton housing hx40. Or you could run the bep .70 a/r t3 single scroll housing.

For the t3 housing (bep or stock holset) you will need to find a manifold that puts the turbo farther away from the block. I think the ERL is the only manifold that will allow proper clearance to the block. The bolton housing will clear the block with your ported 2g manifold. You will have to dent the water pipe when you run a 2g manifold with an hx35/hx40. I got away with stock fans with my bolton holset (all the compressor covers are the same a/r and general size). But, I did end up cutting one of the supports on the passenger side fan for the intercooler piping.

The stock turbine housing is also very large and you may run into figment issues due to it hittif the block on the front balance shaft tube. Some people have used the stock housing but I'm unsure if they had a different angle on the mounting flange to accommodate its large size.

You'll need a divided manifold and u less they set the wastegate properly for a single gate you'll need 2 wastegates and custom exhaust setup.

slowboy racing sells the t3 non divided .70 A/R housing and a complete oil feed and drain line. you can find a restrictor and filter at ebay. only manifold that will fit is Straight line specialties, ERL and JMFab (without denting the water pipe) (gotta send to them so it'll be proper fit (mine is very tight with the jmfab 1mm clearance between turbo and water pipe) they usually run around 450-800.00$$. 3" downpipe with some clearance issues might be oil filter and housing, but you can fix that right up with the forward facing oil filter housing (extremepsi sells it)

I'm planning on running an external gate off the manifold.

From what I've heard, the 19cm^2 housing flows best, but I will sacrifice about 500rpm of spool. The manifold I have now is cracked as well, so I'm wanting to replace it either way. I'm going to test fit a t3 manifold a friend has sitting around, and if that doesn't fit, I'm probably going to go with the ERL manifold.

I don't plan on putting this turbo on for a little while; until I have everything figured out and can have everything swapped out in a timely fashion. Will I need to have a custom exhaust setup either way, or only if I run a bolton housing?

You will need a custom exhaust if you do NOT run the bolton housing.

The .70a/r bep t3 housing spools about 400-500rpms later than the bolton housing. The 19cm^2 housing with an open manifold spools later for sure. I cant remember, but I thought one posted their spool speeds with the 18cm^2 housing and open manifold in one of the holset threads.

Wrong, My DNP manifold clears my waterpipe by more the half inch. Bullseye .70 A/R housing. HX40 pro turbo.

So add the dnp to the list. Its a great manifold. Its what Lucas English used to make fp3065 output the same power based on trap and weight as what the other hx40 setups are running.

I have a custom ssac t3 manifold made to clear the block ive been meaning to list on the classifieds.

One of your biggest concerns after choosing a manifold is making/buying a down pipe/o2 housing. A v-band clamp and 2 flanges cost me $40ish and tight radius bends are about the same. Still beats a punishment racing 3" v-band o2 hosing price tho.

So if I were to run the .70a/r bep t3 housing, I wouldn't need custom exhaust work? And where can I find that housing? After reading a little more, I hear that with the 19cm^2 housing, it's difficult to achieve higher boost levels, and I'm looking for, eventually, 30+psi.

I said you 'will not need a custom exhaust if you do NOT run the bolton housing.' The t3 bep housing, it is NOT a bolton housing. t3 refers to the bolt pattern ONLY. t3 is not bolton.

Now I'm thoroughly confused. Your statements contradict themselves. I'm assuming you forgot to add "not" in the first post though?

I know what t3 means. I'm not an idiot. I am simply trying to figure out everything I need to do to get this turbo on my car since it is not a bolt on turbo and I've never done anything like this.

The t3 turbine housing is NOT a bolton housing.

You therefore will need a custom exhaust. . .

. . . :) makes sense now?

I fvcked up on the second quote of my self.

I said:

I meant to say in the quotes what I already said:

You will need a custom exhaust if you do NOT run the bolton housing.

. . .Sorry

I'm pretty happy with it aswell. I ran a mitsu flanged one before this one with NO issues and this one is going strong supporting that heavy holset with no braces at all!! :coy:

Ok, that makes sense, haha. Will I just need to have a vband o2 housing?

Basically, so far I understand that I will need to get:

The .70a/r bep housing (don't know where to find that)
V-band o2 housing
ERL, DNP, or similar manifold that will allow the turbo to fit correctly in the bay

Anything I'm missing that I'll need to buy or fabricate?

IF you run the BOLT on housing you are able to run the mitsu o2 housing, but if you run the T-3 .70AR housing you don't run a 02housing anymore. The outlet on the turbine housing has a v-band which your DP attaches to, thus deleting the o2 housing.

I bought my turbine housing from nick at THE TURBO TRADER.

Turbo Trader?

So does anyone know where I can find the BEP housing?
