Better off saving your money and getting the Punishment kit. Usually with the ebay kits, they dont fit well, the couplers are cheap or the wrong size, crappy clamps, etc. I wish you luck if you try it. But, bear in mind that your gonna probably have a few headaches along the way. Dont get me wrong, I got an ebay kit. But, I have had to bend a pipe an bracket, order new couplers and t-clamps, and cut one pipe shorter. If you got some skills, go for it and try it. Report what you thought. Otherwise, I say go with a Punishment kit. It will fit right in and you shouldnt have any problems with the install. Punishment always has sales. Hit them up and ask. They might just cut you a deal.

There are ebay kits that work, almost a shot in the dark when you buy. Just grab the P.R. or VR kit, save yourself the hassle.

Yeah, you just can't beat that kit for the money. No screwing around trying to make stuff fit. Just a quality, simple, and affordable kit. How can you go wrong?

I popped for the Punishment off of eBay for $400 and it bolted right up. Since I also installed my JaM Motorsports Intake Manifold with the Q45 TB all at once the only mods were minor. Just re-worked the TB pipe to the BoV pipe and vi-ola. Powder Coat the visible pipe and looks race ready.

i bought the ebay one.. but i dont know, i thought it was fun hanging out, pizzas and beers job, not a big deal... id rather do a little dirty work fabing it then spending a extra $200. works just as good...

well thats true but look at both links the moshimoto says for eclipse and the OP link says for eclipse but look closely and it says on the second picture intercooler kit and right on the bottom it says mazda rx-7 hahaha and look at both closely and the moshimoto looks better done maybe same material but better made..

and its not just the painted its also stamped and if you ever want to re sale it you dont have to say its ebay or kaze speed LOL

It's Mishimoto. And that's just a FMIC w/ no piping and it looks identical to the CX/PR FMIC which can be had for 112.00 just not spray painted logo.

I ordered the CX racing kit, just got it in yesterday and installing it today (just the universal pipe kit, already had the FMIC (also CX racing), so far it's working great.

I don't get the deal with people not going for the e-bay intercoolers / piping, they cool just as well as the big names. I know I've used quite a few ebay / China made radiators (Fluidyne knockoffs) on my MX bikes with great success (much stronger than stock, larger cooling capacity, and they look great).

Now ebay turbos, thats something different. No gracias on those.

I got a punishment core, i had a 2g elbow that i modified and angled, a pipe from he graveyard a 18 inch pipe, around 12 bucks, cut from the auto store, around 8 bucks, midad cut bent me 1 2.5 inch pipe for 10 bucks, ebay j pipe 20 bucks, done, the short route pipe set up, it took a while to get it right but its there, the rest are couplers see pics in my profile. under 100 bucks easy, plus is custom by me which i love. It can be done just takes some thinking and shopping for parts took one day.

dang, back in my day the FMIC itself went for $175, now you get a shitload of piping with it too?

if you have a buddy that can weld (aluminum or steel, depending on what materials those are), its a hell of a deal. if you know what you are doing, that kit comes with enough pipe to turn a long-route into a short-route.

FYI i was one of the first to run the ebay XOXO fmic's. No complaints. In my last 1g i went with a punishment racing kit but that was mainly due to the size of the core (4" and huge) as well as ease of install, even though i still had to do some modifications to the piping kit. Nothing is a bolt-on affair with these cars.

yes it was fun i wouldnt pay someone to do it for me, it the core is nice and i cant wait to get her on the road soon. it does take some work.

I don't get the aversion to Ebay intercooler kits, I can see where some of them don't have beads on the end to help hold the couplers on under boost but some of them seem pretty solid. At any rate, I got my CX racing kit in (minus FMIC, total ~50 dollars on the whole kit including a new J-pipe and manifold intake elbow), so far it's bolting up just fine (and mine was a universal).

Only issue I've run into so far is I need some slim radiator fans as the new CX radiator is thicker, cutting down on the room for me to route the hot side, but I've got it routed and in place already so meh.

ah, well if you intend on hacking up that universal kit to work, im sure that also includes welding on some beads.

in a pinch though, you could do what i did a few times if you need to affix a pipe without abead. cut slits into the pipe ends, about 1/2" into the pipe every 1/4" on center all the way around the circumference, then bend them outward just a tiny bit so it makes a lip. not the best solution, but itll work.

Oh I didn't need to cut anything, everything already has a bead on it as well.

I just ran out of real estate in the engine bay going with a thicker radiator core. :)

I looked at the kits, i looked at the pr kit, but this was a project car and didnt want to spend the money at once. I was running the maft, and i never wanted to do a long route set up, i mocked it up once and didnt like all that piping, this will be the same set up when i transfer it over to my tsi, when i get it.

nice.

i wont be doing FMIC on my 2g. Hated dealing with overheating due to FMIC's blocking all the airflow to the radiator. A thin Heat Exchanger core does wonders to alleviate this, and you can get a full system off a 03/04 Cobra for about $150 (HE, Pump, Reservoir), and all youd need is the AWIC core.

I was able to drive (not sanely, btw) all the way up a large mountain in the middle of summer with my 03 Cobra without even a hint of overheating. DSM guy we were with, huge fmic, fans, ducting.....every 20min was slowing down to let the cooling system catch back up.
