SRT4s are not that bad. I said the same thing once "IF i sell my dsm i would get a srt4"..The look good, they sound good, and they have decent power. The difference is making a payment or shelling out 9gs+..so i passed. But i'd still like to have one. But its just something about owning a DSM that makes me stay

srt-4's are pretty quick bone stock. but it would be cheaper to mod the dsm a little than to have to make a payment. It wouldnt take alot to make it faster than the srt4. My cousins got one, dont get me wrong its nice but i dont car too much for a four door

Do Srt-4s come in AWD? I never understood the fascination with them... Turbo neon? Wtf they look ### and its a neon... Would rather get a used evo than a new srt-4.

no they only come in fwd. They dont spin too bad either. But there is a big price difference in an evo and a srt4. srt4s were only made in 03-05. Wait op you are talking about the neon srt4 and not the caliber right?

right neon srt. and to my understanding the only thinkg neon about a srt is the body. new motor, tranny.....etc.
and a used evo cost more than a srt otherwise i would get an evo. the only other car i could see myself with is a nissan 350z

you can pick up a srt4 for 7-13k all day on CL, they really dont look half bad. But myself i'd rather have a 350z. they run about the same 1/4 mile time. 350z's cost alittle more though.

i found 350z's for around the same.
my friend has a stock 350 he's selling for 12k i think.
but i havent even sold my eclipse yet. what do you guys think a good price will be?

1999 Gst, STOCK 95k miles, brand new paint, new brakes, rotors, calipers, and tires, replaced about 2k miles ago, black leather interior (9 out of 10) new plugs, wires, and all liquids replaced about a month ago. automatic transmission shifts perfect.

ill try that when i get my car painted. i was hoping to get more though. i have a greddy bov and hard intercooler pipping. should i put that on the car or sell it out right.

haha it was more of a rant rhetorical statement then a question bud. LOL just made me laugh

I personally would never get an SRT-4 over a DSM to go fast for as little money as possible. A DSM is about the best performance car you can get relative to how much it costs. If you do get an SRT-4 make sure it has LSD. It wasn't offered until '04 and if you get one without it, you will have the same traction issues as you would with equal power and torque in your GS-T.

actually a DSM isn't.

there are better performance platforms out there for a lot cheaper. it depends on your taste, and what you want to do with the car.

i had a buddy build a low 10 second foxbody for under 4k. ran it all season, then sold it off to build a 240.

and the price of the car was in the 4k.

I'd keep the GST and just do some mods to it. It'll be a lot cheaper than getting an SRT4. You don't have to spend much to make more hp than a stock SRT4 does. A few hundred bucks in mods and you'll be walking away from stock SRT4's all day. You also have the 99 reflashable ECU so you can buy the Tactrix cable, EVOScan, and download ECUFlash to tune your car (you'll also need a wideband, boost gauge, boost controller...). Or just take it to a place that flashes EVO ECU's and they should be able to tune it for you with whatever mods you put on.

If you are getting rid of the GST, I call dibs on the black leather front seats!

So is there anything wrong with the dsm for wanting to get rid of it? SRT4s are showing their age and problems a lot more now as it's still a neon. Sure it has more power stock, that's because it has slightly bigger parts on stock. Same way how the old Evos were 300hp and he DSM was at 210hp. Same motor and all but just a bigger turbo, fmic, and injectors.

You would get much more from he DSM IMO and how well is he aftermarket selection and prices for quality parts?

Where you gonna get a used Evo for $8-10k that isnt wrecked with a salvage title?

That being said, i dont see the benefit from going from a GST to a SRT4. Youre still fwd. You could put a 14b on the GST and support and be right there with S1 SRT4's for little $$$ and not have the car payment.

Plus 2gB>SRT4 IMO (in terms of styling). Dont get me wrong, i do like SRT4's but its still looks like a neon at the end of the day. Id rock one for a DD/commuter though to replace my GST as my commuter.

The foxbody Mustang is a great platform if you want to build a cheap 10 second car, but a DSM will have better all around performance. They handle much better and are better on the street then a heavily modded foxbody. Either way, I don't think there is any debate over the fact that you can build a fast DSM for cheaper then an SRT-4 including the price of the car.

wrx I see them go for 6000, they look decent, awd, same power as the neon, and it's not a neon.

+1 on the wrx, its not a neon.
But it is your money, buy what makes you happy.

Car insurance in most states is unreal with srt4s. A lot of the kids that got them were rich spoiled kids who believed it was a race car and ended up wrapping it around a tree or guard rail. Go on youtube and type in srt4 crash and tons of videos will come up about how people regret buying them due to their safety issues. They have no roof support at all you might as well take a sawzall and just cut it off to be honest. IMO keep the GST

I looked for a decent WRX about 6 monthes ago. The 3 that i looked at in the 7500 to 8500 range had been beat to hell and back. 1 had a salvage flood title, the others had mucho mucho miles. Also parts for a Subaru are RIDONKULOUS.
I see decetn SRT4's for 8000 all the time. Got to admit it would be nice to have a 4 door......maybe I will look for a nice Galant VR4:thumb:

I say srt4 all the way. I am speaking from experience.

I own an awd talon with a fully built 2.4L/gt4094r turbo/aem/shep trans and blah blah blah. the car is minty and in amazing shape in everyway.

i also own as my daily driver a stage 3 with toy box.

By far the srt4 is my favorite car to drive. It makes awesome power and plays with anything on the street, runs 11s all day and i get to drive it home at the end of the night. As much as i love dsms i cant say there has ever been a time where i can bag on my car on a friday night at the track and then without having to double check anything just drive it to work on monday without any headaches. i still have my A/C and my viper inspired seats and so on. I can give it to my gf to drive and she will drive it all day with ease. I dont have to tell her "ohh watch out the clutch is stiff". or whatever wierd things to deal with.

At the end of the day an srt isnt a 20 year old car thats been taken apart and put back together a million times. i promise if you get one you wont regret it.

OP, I understand what your saying and have been dealing with the same dilemma.

I built a 95 GS-T (16g, 720CC, etc) and a 98 GSX (Precision 50 Trim, 1200CC, Etc)
Both with significant amounts of power, especially my GSX.

I believe that SRT-4's are awesome cars, i've had friends that have built them. They look great and for the most part seem reliable. I've driven a few of them, and was satisfied with the power output.

But honestly, i'd never own one. While fairly cheap to modify and sleek looking; it's still fwd. And if you haven't learned with your GS-T then you will with your SRT-4. FWD absolutely sucks compared to an AWD.

I've been going back and forth with my car, to keep it or to sell it. If I were to sell it the only thing i'd buy at this point is an evo.

If you're unsatisfied with your car, what makes you think that a car that makes 30 more hp and a bit more torque are going to satisfy you? Based off your mod list, you could just put a 16g on your car, some injectors, link, and an exhaust and walk all over an srt-4.

They're essentially the same car, one 4 doors and less sexy.
