My 97 gst will cold start fine but once i have been running it for a little while and shut it off, sometimes it will randomly not start. It cranks fine and sometimes i smell gas when trying to turn it over... I got new plugs and battery tested fine, any ideas?

I agree with the Coolant temp sensor. Are you running on the stock fuel pump, could be a clogged a fuel filter. Have you checked your Fuel pressure to ensure your running at the proper fuel pressure? If your your smelling fuel check to see if you have a Fuel Injector leaking or a fuel line leak. Just a couple places to start.

I was at motoguys garage and read this

Unable to start / Random stalling and only restarting after several tries, or when the car has cooled

If the vehicle only starts sometimes and not other times, a replacement ECU may be necessary. This is also true if the vehicle only starts when cold but suddenly stalls without restarting after warmed up. This condition will become more frequent until the vehicle cannot be started at all. A properly functioning ECU will illuminate the Check Engine Light (CEL) for a few seconds when the car is first cranked/started—if the CEL does not illuminate; the ECU is not powering up and will need to be replaced.

My check engine light has never came on in my car, so it is actually supposed to after first starting the car? I am running a stock fuel pump and my idea was that my filter was clogged also, but im not sure. As for my injectors and coil pack, they all seem to be fine. If it is the coolent temp senor would it throw a code for the CEL to come on?

Also how would i check my fuel pressure without a FPR installed?
