Apparently the recall was never fixed on this t-case and it almost locked up on me on the freeway. I pulled over right when i heard it start whining so I should be okay with all the other parts. Is there any way I can get it fixed? Or use a spare t-case to replace the broken parts? Are the non-switchable transfer cases different than the normal ones?

I am about to go slap on my stock 90 t-case (same size and spline). I was wondering, if I stay in AWD mode, will there be any problems or will I be messing up the VC or anything like that? This is just temporary until I get a new T-case to match the switchable tranny.

I can't believe this happened... :toobad:

Have you called mitsu, I thought that this was a safety recall and if the mod has not been done they are required to fix it by the DOT.....that might be a way you can go and save alot of money.

I highly doubt mitsubishi usa will even do any recall work or repairs to a jdm switchable tc that came from a galant.

To the op, I know the cases are the same on the outside, but without the extra machining for the switch lever. The bosses are cast in but not drilled, tapped, etc. It might use the same bearings and gears, just different output shaft. It would be worth trying to find a junk tc to tear apart for comparison. Or you could pull your spare apart and compare them.

Leave the tranny in awd mode and you will be fine to drive it. It will then work the same as a standard usdm awd tranny and tc. When the tc is in awd mode, it locks and works identical to a usdm tc. The vc will not be harmed in any way, it will acutally be working the way it was designed to.

Thanks for the info, esp. awd92dsm.

I have my stock 90 t-case that I gave to a tranny shop with my switchable and I told them to make a frankenstein t-case out of the good stock one and the broken switchable one with a 22 spline input. We'll see what happens...
