I sure hope that I can get some knowledgable members to help out with my problem. I've got a 97 Eclipse GST with a 6bolt head on a 7bolt block. I've been trying to narrow down the problem for the past week and have come to a wall :banghead: I have a logger but unfortunately i'm not getting power from the data link connector so I can't pull any codes. I hope that someone has another solution.

1. Car will crank but won't start.
2. I have no spark. (Plugs & Wires were replaced, Coils were tested within spec, and Power Transistor was replaced.)
3. ECU is in good shape and all wiring is ok. (Cel will come on and go off when car ignition is turned to "On" and stock boost gauge reads ok).
4. All fuses have been checked inside/out.
5. New battery, starter, terminals all check out ok.
6. I am getting fuel, checked from the feed line back to the pump, fuel filter, and MPI/MFI relays are good.
7. Timing is ok, brand new OEM replacement on everything.

I'm really lost and not sure what else to do guys. I am a little bit limited as my car is simply stuck outside. Not sure what else to do.
Any and all insight is appreciated.
Thanks!

Have you guys tried calling them and asking them? I'm sure they might have some insight into your problem.

Do you have power to the coil with the key on? A real easy mistake on 2G is to plug the AC compressor plug into the ignition coil connector. They look the same same and are located in the same area.

Are all of your grounds connected? Even the little guy that goes from the intake to the firewall? I had a problem similar to this for a couple days and turned out to be that little ground. Good luck.

Also, are you said your not getting spark. How were you testing that?

possible that the crank sensor got damaged or not plugged in?

Definitely check the cam position sensor as the 6/7 bolt are wired differently. Obviously you knew the waterpump housing is different so thats not gonna be the problem.

also the no spark could be gapping on the spark plugs make sure its not too big, should be about 20

Sorry sir, but the gap on stock plugs should be 28. A gap of 20 is for lots of boost :D

Im having the same exact issue and I an dumbfounded...someone help like a dsm god from the heavens above someone

For starters, you DO have your cps and cas set up properly? Or just a 1g cas will do the trick and delete the need for a cps. Im sure you know that but it sure sounds like cas/cps type problem to me

Oh wait, 6bolt head..... You wouldnt by chance be using the cams from a 6 bolt would you? Maybe coupled with the cas of a 2g? If so, get a 1g cas and wire it in. It will fire right up.

edit: IF you go with a 1g cas, make sure its clocked right. Meaning the dot and tab line up. Otherwise its 180* out and weird shit happens(or so ive heard)

im working with my stock 7 bolt, just did a wire tuck and everythings working but I cant get her to start. so the cam angle sensor and crank postion sensor? what if I were to cut the plugs and run wires straight to were they would be plugged in on the ecu ? that way I would bypass and short or bad wire within the harness somewhere.

So you have 2gb cas, cps, AND 2g cams correct? If thats the case i have no idea why it wont start. Ring the wires, dont just hack them yet. Make sure that they are indeed broken as you think they are before tearing into them. With the wire tuck i would suggest the 1g cas even more but thats just my opinion

The reason i ask about the cams is that if you have 1g cams i think they need to be tapped for a 2g cas to work properly. Im not 100% on that, more like 95% sure LOL

yeah motor was never touch, all stock with 115 on it and healthy as can be. compression on the dot.
what are the pin numbers for the cas and cps?

Im confused, motor was neer touched? This thread is about 6 bolt heads on 7 bolt short blocks. I might be barkin up the wrong tree but do you or do you not have a 6 bolt head/7 bolt block? If you have a 6 bolt head its a 1g head, and if its a 1g head did you just put it on or did you use the 97 cams????? Thats what im trying to get out of ya.

These guys above has pointed out a lot of possibility's. So let us know what CAS your using and if your using a Crank Sensor Still.

If you eliminated the Crank Sensor , you must be running a 1g CAS, if you still have the 7 bolt Crank sensor, i would use a 7 bolt fixed CAS, You may have to drill/ tap the Cam to fit it.

Let us know.

EDIT* = You can run a 1G CAS and just eliminate the Crank sensor. Ive hears this has worked for that specific mix of head to block.

I cant get a straight answer outta the guy LOL. ^^^^^ correct though. 1g cas=DONE and DONE

Im having the same exact issue and I an dumbfounded...someone help like a dsm god from the heavens above someone
:nono:
No you are not having the same issue, this thread was for the 6 bolt head on 7 bolt block.

stock 7 bolt everything, 7 bolt head on 7 bolt block, all stock cas and cps, crank but no start

:ohdamn:
Everything is 7 bolt,? Why are you just now mentioning this?
Start a different thread with a specific title , to YOUR specific issue. You failed to read this thread original title, and now you have taken this much more time away from finding your solution.

I had a feeling this was off...... damn, waste of posts on my part big time.

relax there...ive used the search function and google and don't even post anything or ask for help unless its something im stumped on. could not find any related threads so I thought id chime in for a quick answer. ill figure it out myself and move on with my build. thanks.

Its not that dude, its just you posted in the wrong thread. Just start a new thread and people will assume its a 97 through and through, still make it known exactly what you have. We obv assumed you have a 6bolt head cause your here. You posted in a "6bolt head, 7bolt block" thread which is a bit different.

No one is pissed and dont pout about it. Just start up a thread so we stop filling this one and someone will def help you. Best of luck. Ill try to help if possible in your new thread.
