lets see the worst....(this was when i was still kinda new to this stuff)....after putting in a $2000 rebuilt motor, i decide to "test her out".....and at about 115 mph, the motor "destroys itself".....come to find out i forgot to torque down the crank pulley bolt,..and there went my head and the valves thru the pistons.....:ohdamn: :barf: WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN

i bought my car then had it towed to mechanic to fix turbo leaks and whatever else was wrong with it.
got car back, the idiots put on wheels and tires, and the tires on the front were 100% tread the ones in back were 50%, and anyone who knows AWD cars knows thats not good haha.
anyway, i pick it up happy as hell ### i finally get to drive her, right when i got in it it sounded like crap, i called them while i was driving and they were like oh its ok it hasnt been driven in awhile it needs to warm up, 3 minutes later right before getting on the highway my wheels lock up and i start skidding, never been in that kind of situation in a car, freaked me out, i had no idea what was going on, im used to driving FWD honda's, i dont know anyhting about this DSM stuff or AWD cars.
all i gotta say is thank god i wasnt going fast.
so moral of the story is dont go to any mechanic take it to a tuner shop.
had to get new transfer case and im still looking for transmission (23spline)
pain in the ASS!. thats so scary that someone would manufacture a car for the wheels to lock up, is there anyway to disable that? haha
its been almost 3 months, and its like having a really hot girlfriend locked up in jail

Bet they towed that SOB on two wheels. Make the shop pay for it.

Lmfao.

2nd day owning my gst the cheap carbon fiber hood flew up and broke the windsheild. had to wait 3 days until my insurence policy switched over so i could claim it.

My horror story isn't to bad. I was working at a Race shop at infineon raceway in sonoma california. I had been there a bit and only gotten my GSX a little while before. And during one of the events some chick parked in MY spot in the upper paddock right out side of my shop. I didn't think to much about it because I had race cars to build. Later that day the same chick that parked in my spot backed into the drivers door of my car.... FuXin mustangs!!! her insurance company bailed cause she was from england or some shit. anyhow, I still have a big ass dent in my door cause i haven't had the money to fix it... on that note, anyone have a magenta grey pearl drivers door? LOL

Never hurry an engine while building LOL. I hurry'd my 2.3 build and set base timing at 15* LOL And I build race cars for a living LOL. (advance inductive timing light with the timing retarded 10*, so instead of 5 degrees it was 15 LOL)

Bought my 1g and not knowing much over paid in a bad way. Overheated getting it home, and when I finally did the transmission started grinding really bad shortly after. So following a trans rebuild and new head gasket I finally got to drive my car for 690km until the trans started grinding in only 1-2. Out it came again and back to the shop where I find out that I need a bunch of parts that I wasn't told where worn out the first time around. While the trans was gone I decided to check the bearings and ended up rebuilding the motor. So 1.5 years after first buying my tsi awd I have yet to actually get much return from the car.

Bought some inox exhaust headers. Get the car raised (i had no elevator) and start dismanteling the old ones. There came a point while mounting i wasn't able to get the header and the catalytic converter together because of the metallic protection that surrounds it was touching one of the bolts, so go to the toolbox, get a hammer, and bash it two or three times to bend it.

After finishing the thing, i told my father to crank the car, and I inmediately started to hear a strange noise like metallic plates, and thought "We did something wrong" so we seek the noise.

Result: The catalytic converter was completely destroyed inside, and had to get a new one. Not cheap.

Conclussion: Do not bash things anymore

Driving home from work late one night after it rained. i should have just went straight home but was stressed and upset, i went to the local walmart. Everything was fine until i left and went on my way home. On my way to my quarters (about 45 miles away from the walmart) i got about 15 miles away from walmart and there was a slight downgrade in the road. Since it was still wet out everything looked dark on the blacktop and i couldn't see that the downgrade part of the road had flooded. the Entire road just looked black. it was only about maybe a half a foot of water but on that blacktop everything was black (at 3am). Made it all the way through the downgrade and then on my way back up... That's when it happened. the car starts shaking and sputtering just a little bit and then shuts off. i roll my car into an empty shoppe stall and sit and think. i run about half a mile to a mile to a gas station to use the pay phone to see if i could get some help, given it's like 3am... Much good that did me. Get back to my car, desperate and 30 miles from anyone i know i tried to start the car up. the power is still on, radio and windows all work. So i thought i would try cranking it. i've heard of hydrolock and all of that but could have sworn that i've read on here numerous times about people who have defeated it just by letting it dry out or whatnot. it's like 4:30 now so im thinking heck it should be fine now. Felt the air filter and it didn't seem any worse than driving in the rain before. So i cranked her over. She starts sputtering a little bit, so i gave her a little gas thinking that might help her a little bit. When i did that i heard a little clank and the engine dies. Dammit! She only ran for like 30 seconds! Try starting it again and nothing. Just the electronics worked. i could hear the starter click but nothing. no sputter, no start/stall, nothing at all. Get outside and pop the hood and look around, look under the car with a flashlight. Just trying to see if i could see anything at all. No oil, antifreeze, not even water dripping off my car. Next afternoon my dad comes with his tow and gets me. Look at the parking stall where i was for any evidence i was there and nothing.

Get the car home and jack it up and i can't see anything really wrong. So my dad and i are just thinking couple of valves and/or rids/pistons type stuff. So we start where everyone starts... the Oilpan... Nothing unusual there other than it was more milky. Then after i take off the header... Thats when i saw how bad the damage was. Shot a rod right out of the iron block. No clue whatever happened to it. No other damage was done on the inside of the engine bay. Just a rim centerpiece cap sized jigsaw hole in the upper block.

Once that was found i said screw this crap. and the car sat for weeks. Weeks turned to months and months into a little over a year. My dad being the eBay-oholic he is... spotted a really good engine. it came from a 420A-T car and was just rebuilt. New pistons, cams, everything all OEM. the Head was resurfaced and new headgasket and everything. All i had to do was just an easy engine swap and it was better than brand new. So after i got it we inspected it a little. Looked at the build receipts from the seller and made a couple calls to Mitsubishi of America just to verify what that this engine is what it claims to be. the Only thing that wasn't replaced it seems was the oilpan. it has the turbo inlet (or outlet) hole drilled into it. Now me being non turbo i couldn't tell you. So after 2 days of swapping parts not sent with the engine we finally dropped her in. Upon the first fire up she has ran like a champ.

About 2 and a half years later... only thing thats gone wrong with the car since then is now the battery is reading "faulty" but thats normal for a 3, 4, 5 year old battery that wasted one year away sitting doing absolutely nothing.

CONCLUSION: Ever play or see those movies/video games Resident Evil? walmart is the Umbrella Corporation! they are evil and must be stopped!

While I'm not going to really touch on the post of the car.. the last part catches me...

You're....not you're every-day girl are you? RE-Series.. = Amazing...

Giving the guy the money to buy it...:banghead:

LOL! i agree! 91 tsi fwd. That same night the guy i bought the care from hit my car whilst power sliding

Then later in life. showing off my new 95 talon took this chick out to lunch and when we were leaving my car wouldn't crank. the ego goes up the ego goes down it's all a part of life. i fixed it with a rubber band think of that...

Got my talon to realize it needed a new head gasket. Changed that to realize I needed a new turbo. Fixed that to realize the intercooler was full of oil. Fixed that to realize that the 1st gear synchro is out and the clutch is gone.

We will see what else pops up when I put the new clutch and tranny in.

When I FIRST GOT it it had a bad head gasket and dip stick that would spew oil all over the hot manifold when I was driving back from the owners city...the alternator was COMPLETELY gummed up with oil it hardly worked. And it also had a stupid lil filter on the crank breather thing thad just saturate with oil...

Then Probly geting the VPC/SAFC settings all ####ed up and never the same again and suffering with that combo for way too long without wideband or a logger....Friends called it the squid at the end there when itd shoot black smoke when I got on it the thing ran so rich.

then getting a vocational school to take their sweet ass time on the paint...then geting a 1 garage shop to take their sweet ass time on everything else wrong with it...

So after selling my really nice 2001 vw jetta fer my dsm two weeks after I bought it she blew and I still can't find a 6 bolt motor in my area let alone afford the thing....plus insurance and rent. Dam it's hard as hell trying to find a job :(

Bought my 97 GSX with 59,000 modded miles on it, sight unseen as I was stationed in Okinawa in December 2006. Big turbo, injectors, piggy back stuff, Eibach springs, big brakes...in great shape. The whole enchilada. Had a relative go check it out and drive it. Confirmed it was in great shape. Paid $9.5K for it. Put it in storage and entrusted said relative to drive it once a month and tend to it. I returned in July 2008 and it had a spun rod bearing...79 miles from the purchase mileage!! I never actually drove it.

I didn't want to cause issues with my relative so I sucked it up and bought a reman motor with 800 miles on it from a kid up in Wisconsin. I drove up from Illinois and helped him pull the motor. I was getting ready to deploy so I didn't want to waste leave putting a motor in my car (lack of tools was a big deal too) so I towed the GSX and "new" motor over to Rev Hard Inc in Moline, IL, bartered with them a bit (gave them a healthy dose of cold cash) and they installed the new engine and returned it mostly back to stock. It drove great the 120 or so miles back form the shop and another 150 or so during my remaining leave. I put another 500 miles on it driving it to Nashville, TN for storage while I was deployed to Iraq.

I returned from Iraq in Summer of 2009 and my father-in-law set off to drive the GSX from Nashville, TN to Norfolk, VA. About 20 miles outside of Nashville, the alternator overcharged, smoked the battery and left the wipers stuck on, ABS and SRS lights on. He pulled it to Virginia on a trailer for me. I have been in school in Rhode Island for the last year so I haven't put much effort into fixing it. I have, so far, replaced the alternator, battery and all the blown fuses (while I was home over Christmas) so she starts and runs. The rest I will continue to troubleshoot.

I graduate from college next week and will finally be home to work on it.

Thus far are I have about $12.5K in it, have drove it less than 900 miles, and have owned it for almost 4 years!

I can't wait to actually drive it and get some of that enjoyment out of it.

Good money after bad...escalation of commitment...is the way of the GSX!

The day i got my first one my sister was following me home and the center piece of the spoiler flew off and about hit her going over a bridge. Two days later with the same car, a lady pulled out in front of me and to avoid tboning her i flew the car over a ditch. The next day the oil filter backed off! That car was horrible luck.

My transmission died a few months after I got my 1g, I was on my way to work around 9pm, it died at one of the stop signs in the lot...i had to push it about 20ft and park it alone as mall security watched [nope apparently they can't get off their asses to help a pretty lady] and then wait for my friend to come tow it.

Had that happen once.. only with my Intake..=/ It came off from the MAF (somehow) and I didn't notice that was the problem because it was pitch black outside.

Hit the biggest deer I've ever seen in my brother's truck the night we were hauling it home.

CV joint was probably dying when I bought it. Replaced that. Didn't drive it another 100 miles and now I think the throwout bearing is gone or the clutch is just absolutely screwed.

Oil and coolant mixing. Still holding out that the oil filter housing is to blame, it is a fairly fresh rebuild. Monkeys worked on this car before me, so I'm hoping beyond hope they just laid it on that oil filter when they installed it.

If all the work I have, am, and will pour into this thing goes to waste because of the negligence of another sentient being. I'd almost feel sorry for what will happen to them.

Day 3 of owning the car, the half-ass job that the previous owner did to wire the radio caught fire. Had some crappy speaker wire going directly from the battery inside to the dash and the wires were cut off and had electrical tape on the ends. Well while I was showing the car to a friend driving, the wire shorts and burst into flames, lighting the carpet on fire and lots of loom. Smoked the entire street.

Nearly went back and punch the owner in the face twice.
