Unless it is dirt cheap, it isn't worth it.

People think A car is worth it's kbb value and add the msrp of their aftermarket parts. Simply not true. 5k of aftermarket parts raise the price, but not worth it if it's not running.

Tell us how much he wants for it.

He say's its because he got a new car, and doesn't have time for it anymore. Actually he is the second owner of this project. A friend of his started it, and sold it to him. Which makes me wonder if something might be wrong, but also who would sell a piece of junk to a friend.

I have seen "friends" sell "friends" shitty cars. This car has been through two people on the same project and it still isnt working. That alone should say enough as to the question of you buying someone elses headache. A 6bolt in a 95 car is quite the undertaking. If you dont personally have extensive knowledge of it, or if you dont know anyone that does I would stay away from it.

Tell him to find the sensor problem and fix it and you will pay him for the sensor and an extra couple hundred for the time. If he says no its probably because its not a sensor problem at all and he has no idea what it is.

If they already broke it at some point, it's pretty likely that a lot of stress has been put on various other aspects of the car. For example, if the clutch is going out, it means they were probably dropping it into gear hard every chance they got. So that also means the engine saw a lot of high rpm's. And the drivetrain has been torqued over and over. So this "sensor" might just be the tip of the iceberg, while everything else in the car is overworked and waiting to give. Try and find a stock/unmolested car for your money's worth.

definately not worth 3k. if you can talk him down to $1800 to $2000 then maybe. and as jp91 said, unless you have knowledge of these cars and the 6 bolt swap, i would stay away form it as well.
