I know there a threads already but i have a few questions of my own. I found a 95 gsx for $2000 and I want to buy it to covert my 97 gst to awd. I Don't want to just sell my car. First question is why do i have to use an awd exhaust? I have a full 3 inch exhaust on my gst and i was wondering if i could just get it bent to fit? Second question is will my speedometer work if i use an awd transmission? And if anyone has ever done this swap that reads this about how long would this take?

DP is longer on an AWD. It sits off-center to to allow for the driveshaft. Most Gs-T exhausts I have seen route up and over the rear subframe at the driver side rear tire. AWD exhausts run under the rear subframe.

You'd be better off selling the FWD exhaust, and buying an AWD exhaust, or using the OE AWD exhaust for now until you can get a new exhaust.

I Don't want to just sell my car, and this project will be Me, my dad and my cousin doing all of the work. First question is why do i have to use an awd exhaust? And if anyone has ever done this swap that reads this about how long would this take? All three of us are unemployed and bored and we usuallu will work from 5pm to daylight LOL.

also if my exhaust wont work, will it be bad to put a stock gsx exhaust on it since im using a boost controller?

To answer your first question, when you use the awd rear subframe ( which you will need to do since you are doing the conversion), the exhaust runs under the subframe. you can modify most things to make something work.

Second question, speedo should work.

I did the swap... It took me abot three days.. You must make sure that you have everything that is needed to complete the swap.

I hope you're going to swap the awd car to front wheel drive in the process to make back some money. Buying a $2000 car for parts sounds kinda expensive but if you can make it a gst and sell it for at least $2000 then the swap would have cost you basically nothing. The exhaust won't work just buy another one from ebay, they're not that expensive. JNZtuning.net only has one speed sensor listed for the turbo and one for the non-turbo so I would say they are the same between awd and fwd turbos. Most people have trouble getting their fuel gauge working not the speedometer so make sure you wire it up correctly.

okay i guess i could put my exhaust on craigslist, and then get another one. Three days aint bad itll just take alot of energy drinks. Idk if it would be easier or not to swap the parts to the awd, I know i would have to swap out the whole inside because it doesnt look to good, motor, body LOL idk bout that. I was thinbking that maybe i would buy the gsx take all of the needed parts for the conversion, then later if i kept the car i could probably use parts from it when stuff starts going bad. thanks yall for the help

It would be cheaper and easier to swap everything over to the awd. You can swap the GS-T motor, hood, fenders, doors, rear hatch, wheels, and interior. For $2,000 the awd should run or either need minor work to run.

You're paying WAYYYYY TO MUCH. I know where you can get a 1g awd that just needs a head for 750. 2000 is way to high.

Its complete except for the turbo. I figure that i can pull the motor from the gsx this winter, send it to get built. The car im buyin has 150,000 miles, paints bad, hopefully the drivetrain is still good

For someone thats unemployed you sure are throwing a lot of money around. With that said, there are ways to get a title for the car. There are forms you can get from the dmv and fill out and they can change the cars title to your name as long as its not stolen or there is no lien. They will give the person whos name is on the title a certain amount of time to respond and if they dont then your good to go. I would deffinately see about doing that before you go trying to swap a gst to a gsx. It is very labor intensive and not something that should be done by someone who doesnt have extensive knowledge of the dsm drivetrain. I've seen this swap take anywhere from an extended weekend to four months. Make sure you know what your getting yourself into.

Between fwd and awd? Huge difference. If your building his car just as a drag car and it wont see the street you wont need a title. Hell just leave the gst as ## daily and build the gsx as a track car. Its a win win situation.

will my short throw shifter still fit my car? why do i have to change coilovers? Im picking up the car tomorrow for $1800, no title, no turbo, faded interior, 150,000 miles all stock, Its the closest/best deal ive found. I know this seems like a crazy thing to do but id rather keep my car than selling it for an awd

yeah it should fit fine

u dont need too u just might. since the spring rates are higher for gsx since they weigh more
